The game of chess opposes two players on either side of a plateau or apron called chessboard composed of sixty-four clear and dark boxes named white boxes and black boxes. The players play in turns by moving one of their sixteen pieces (or two pieces in case of rocks), clear for the camp of the whites, dark for the camp of the blacks. Each player has a king, a lady, two towers, two madmen, two riders and eight pawns. The goal of the game is to inflict on his opponent a failure and mat, a situation in which the king of a player is engaged without it being possible to remedy it.
