And ... I can’t read music (I can pretend very well) and I’ve only been taking an interest in music theory in the last ten years. I have a solid experience as a guitar teacher as i’ve worked for 10 years at the PXL Music Conservatory, which produces most of the professional bands coming out of Belgium, as well as at the Merelbeke Music Academy. I also produce music, write music scores for theater, movies, adverts and contemporary dance. I got into music because it is fun to play an instrument, it makes you feel good, it’s creative, inspiring, and it connects you to other people. And that is my main goal in teaching you how to play the guitar. At your own pace, learning the stuff that you like and want to learn. The basic basics, songs, styles, soloing, impro, and the more advanced things, whatever it is that you fancy and would like to learn. In a beautiful environment. And with a nice cup of tea. Music is a life journey that can sometimes be challenging and demanding. Together we can set a lesson plan that focuses specifically on the demands and level of each student in particular. After years of being a student myself and having the opportunity to study with some of the most renowned jazz musicians of the world, I have collected knowledge and information on how to deal with many of the weaknesses we face during our lifelong journey of learning music. We will find the right way to learn that works for you and your experience. The lessons offered: - Bass Guitar: on all levels, focusing on developing good technique, leaning a lot of music and finding new challenges. Focus can be on any subject the student decides and will take it further from there. - Improvisation techniques: on all levels and all instruments, you don't have to be a bass player to take that lesson. We will deal with many different ways to approach improvisation in modern music, based on the ideas and classes from teachers like Danilo Pérez, John Patitucci, David Santoro, Steve Rochinski and Bruce Gertz. - Jazz and Classical Music Theory, Arranging and Composition: providing many different book and different perspectives on music theory, learn how to analyze music and utilize all the ideas and concepts to create our own music and take it a step further. Techniques for arranging and composition, from small groups to big band writing. - Music of the world: Discover music from all around the world, focusing on learning the styles, the history and the tradition of music from West Africa, Cuba, Brazil, Venezuela, Peru. We will focus on the rhythmic aspect of different genres of world music and we will create an understanding of the feel of each different style.

As someone with very little theoretical background, I find that Jean does his best to explain things in a simple and clear matter. He is patient and calm, will adapt the lessons to your level and needs, accompany the lessons with exercises and material that you can use to practice at home, .. Overall a very good experience so far.
