Throughout the year Denny and I deeply reviewed each topic of the syllabus to strengthen my understanding of several concepts. Denny used a variety of IB past papers which I particularly enjoyed working with. Moreover, we worked on a software that was very convenient and easy to manipulate allowing smooth communication even though we lived in different countries. Before my lessons with Denny, I was getting constant 3s and 4s at school and was having issues with the way my teacher taught me the syllabus. When working with Denny, he would not only teach me the Mathematical concepts but he would also show me the way in which to approach each question. I am extremely grateful to have had such a delicate and skillful tutor who enabled me to reach a score of 6 at my final exams in May 2021. I would have never done so well without him. --------------------- IB Math SL, Japan ---------------------- *Over the past two years Denny has worked with me not only to improve my mathematical skills but also my confidence. We began with doing some simple example questions so that he could help me properly understand the mathematical theory and concept. Then Denny would advise and demonstrate different methods to solve the problem to present a mathematical perspective that was different to that of my school teacher. This would really help me understand how to work around a question and not to get stuck at the beginning. The practice boosted my confidence immensely, as Denny helped me understand that there is normally never only one way to solve a problem, and even if I think the question is very hard, there is always a simpler way to view it.* As a result, when it was time to practice IB past paper questions, working through the questions with Denny not only became easier, but also enjoyable! In addition, I saw a very big improvement in my grades. Before stating tutoring lessons with Denny, I was only just passing the course with a 4, but by the start of the next school year I was getting 6s and 7s!* I would highly recommend Denny’s tutoring lessons to any students who feels they need even just a little bit more help or practice outside of the regular classroom where they can receive a different mathematical perspective from their school teachers. Although I sometimes struggled to understand certain concepts, I could tell that his comfort with topics such as vectors, trig, and calculus helped transfer that knowledge and confidence to me over time. Denny’s use of past papers as a source of conceptual understanding is another aspect of his teaching that I thought was incredibly important.
