I am from the United States where I have taught private and large group lessons. I have a Bachelors in Music Performance from the University of Texas at Austin and a Masters from the Amsterdam Conservatorium. Through my experience I have found it crucial to start lessons with setting goals for each student; from simple short term goals to more advance long term goals. Just like any art that you wish to learn, practicing is a vital part to succeed, therefore starting with fundamentals and slowly advancing our techniques into repertoire is a very personal experience and we all learn at different rates. With one on one lessons each student has the convenience of setting personal goals, taking different routes to succeed, and overall enjoying the interaction between teacher and student. I always like to begin lessons, normally lasting around 30 minutes. This will allow me to learn more about the student and their aspirations.
