I am a professional classical guitarist and lutenist with many years of teaching experience. I tailor lessons to my students' needs and interests. This may mean training a young classical guitarist for a professional career, teaching a beginner to play his or her favorite pop song, or anything in between! Learning to play the lute, mandolin, or ukulele are other possibilities, or perhaps improving one's knowledge of music theory. I have a background in electric guitar, electric bass, and traditional Irish music. Whatever the style or instrument, I always strive to impart or reinforce the fundamentals of technique and musicianship.

I am patient and supportive as a teacher. I'm a fairly shy and reserved person, but I really enjoy working one-on-one with students, and sharing my knowledge of music. I consider this type of teaching to be really important to the music profession, and I also like how it can enrich people's personal lives, giving them a way to express themselves, and to concentrate on learning a discipline. While teaching the fundamentals of music is the most crucial task, I also like to think about music history and theory, and enjoy having these sorts of conversations with my students. After a few years of living in The Netherlands, I'm starting to speak some Dutch, so if you want lessons in Dutch that will soon be possible!

What is music theory? Is it just one theory? What do we do with it? How come so many of the greatest musicians didn't know even the name of the notes?

Let's dispel the myth.
They may, in fact, have lacked the names, but "knowing" in music means something else than a dusty stockpile of information and labels. Their ears, their voice, and their hands "knew" very well...

Music theory is the way we get some order into the endless realm of possibility that music allows us. Naming and conceptualizing these possibilities is very useful in many ways. It provides us with an overarching and abstract understanding of what we have done (reflective element), and it can even open up to yet unheard sound combinations (generative element). But one point remains crucial: music theories come from music practice and come back to music practice. Theories are the most useful and loyal servants for music-making, but only empty speculations without it.

In these lessons, I will help you to understand how to navigate music theories and what to do with them. I will show you a plurality of approaches to systematizing sound relations that will serve at best the music you love to play or want to compose.

The lessons will be custom made for each student.
Whether you are a beginner who simply wants a little help to get the basics right or you are a cultivated musician fond of music theory who wants to explore advanced and complex concepts out of the box, I will provide you with ideas, materials, and exercises. My name is Carla Peña and I come from Barcelona. Since I was a child, music has played an important role in my life. I started learning music when I was 4 years old and cello when at the age of 6. I discovered my love for music and that is what I share with my students.
I have around 15 pupils of all levels and ages and I teach at my own studio (De Constant Rebecquestraat 3) or at your place!

FIRST LESSON:
The first lesson consists of getting to know each other. This is essential to choose the best teaching approach. All the students are unique, that is why I always choose the method that adapts better to your needs. Then, we elaborate a personal plan, depending on your level, expectations, practice time, and taste.

TECHNIQUE:
Learning the proper technique of the instrument is very important to avoid injuries and to be able to express ourselves and perform our musical ideas in a successful way. That is why we learn nice songs in different styles, depending on your taste (from classical to jazz, film music, pop, etc.) and we combine it with cello method books with progressive exercises to improve the cello knowledge.
In the case of young beginners, we also play cello games during the lesson to make the learning experience dynamic and fun! Children can lose attention and get bored very quickly!

Playing together is an essential part of enjoying music. Therefore, the last part of the lesson always consists of playing cello duets and having fun!

ABOUT ME:

I studied my Bachelor in Conservatori Superior del Liceu in Barcelona, with professor Amparo Lacruz. Then, I decided to continue my studies at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague in the class of Michel Strauss and Jan-Ype Nota.
During my studies in The Hague, I did a teaching internship at the Royal Conservatory as a part of their Minor in Music Education. I also taught in several Music Schools during my studies in Spain.
Currently, I teach private students in The Hague and I created a cultural center in The Hague called Pandora Studio.
I play regularly in two chamber music ensembles: Trio Jakob and Azalaïs Quartet.

1 hr private lessons every week. You or your children will learn to play guitar with the correct technique while having fun. You will learn how to play your favourite songs and tunes, classical music, rock, pop and/or baroque.

I am Héloïse, a french cellist and singer who lives in The Netherlands since two years. I finished to study at HKU Utrecht Conservatorium in june and am now a professional musician and, among other a cello teacher at the Lindenberg Center in Nijmegen.

After teaching music theory for two years in a french conservatory, I realised how much teaching is very important for me and helps me to grow as a musician. I like to adapt to the student and try to find a solution in any pedagogical situation.

I have experience with Orchestra and chamber music as well. I had the pleasure of participating in a side by side project with the Orchestre Philarmonique de Radio France and play in various prestigious settings.
