I have a USA teaching license and a Bachelor's Degree in Childhood Inclusive Education (Grades K-6 and Students with Disabilities) from the State University of New York at Fredonia. My experiences include teaching at primary international schools in Belgrade, Serbia for 2 years and 3 years at international schools in The Hague, Netherlands. I have worked at two IB primary schools. Alongside teaching at international schools, I have 8 years of experience teaching English. I also have experience teaching grade 1 and 3 in elementary schools in New York State. I have taught children from 2-17 years old and adults. My students range in levels from beginners who are new to learning English, to fluent English speakers that need support or would like to further excel or maintain their fluency. Based on my experiences, I have learned to adjust my teaching style based on different students' needs, cultures, socioeconomic backgrounds, and learning abilities. Lessons are provided to children and teenagers. Lessons are customized to the learning needs of your child. Whether that be learning English for the first time or practicing improvement of speaking, reading, comprehension, pronunciation, listening, writing, grammar, etc. Lessons can be aimed towards learning a topic such as food, animals, sports, emotions, and more. For children who are fluent English speakers, tutoring can be given to further excel in particular areas. Subjects that interest the student such as science, history or world topics can be incorporated into the lesson to broaden their knowledge. Support can also be provided in learning organizational skills, research, and mini projects for older children. I am available to help with studying, homework, or school projects. For online learning, I use a variety of platforms, websites, educational games, and e-books to reach the learning goals of my students. Additional homework can be provided if requested. In 2023, I've obtained a Master degree in Linguistics at the University of Amsterdam. I've achieved the C1+ levels in English, on the CEFR scale. I have 2 years of experience living in London, where I acquired RP (received pronunciation) and 7 years of experience in the International Academia (Amsterdam). My linguistic background gives me the capacity to explain the sounds and various processes of the language, from a perspective many natives do not know. In teaching, I practice the holistic approach. It is my belief that language is for people of every age and education, but I'm aware that everyone deserves a personal approach. Having moved around quite a bit, I understand the stress students undergo adapting to new schooling systems. I enjoy working privately with students to build their confidence. I previously was a primary school teacher of all subjects (Grades 1&2) for a private international school in Dubai. I am familiar with international school curriculum and challenges faced by students when moving to a new country. I have extensive experience with students of all learning levels. I have been privately tutoring for over 10 years now. English is my first language (I am American). I also have experience tutoring at a higher age (as well as university level). I am an excellent writer, editor, and researcher and work part time in UVA's graduate school in the sociology department. I completed my MSc at UVA and undergraduate at UCLA. Currently, the majority of my students are primary school students who attend the British school or ISA. However, I teach a large number of international school students or older students. I also tutor many students, of various ages, in the Dutch schooling system. I recently enrolled my daughter (Dutch native) in English lessons with this teacher and I must say, the experience has been fantastic. My daughter has learned so much in the past few weeks and it's all thanks to the teacher's fun and engaging approach to teaching. The lessons are always interactive and my daughter loves them. She looks forward to her English class every week and I can see a noticeable improvement in her language skills. The teacher has a talent for making the lessons enjoyable and my daughter has a great time while learning. We had our first session a few days ago, with Alessandra tutoring my 8 year old son and 5 year old daughter, developing their reading and writing in English and their mathematics. Alessandra's previous experience as a teacher certainly shines through, as she definitely seems to know how children of this age learn. She provided original and exciting activities for the kids and they found it great fun; they are looking forward to seeing her again next week. Alessandra was professional to work with and I can definitely recommend her.

In terms of vocabulary, I had a good foundation through Duolingo. Decided to take one-to-one lessons with Palina to also improve grammar and listening and speaking skills. Now at lesson 4 and very happy with my choice :). After saying hello (in Russian of course) the lesson starts with a listening or speaking practice, followed by a short repetition of the grammar rule of the previous lesson and the introduction of a new grammar rule. Keep in mind, however, that the structure of lessons may depend on your level of Russian.
