As a professional cellist for 14 years now, including as a member of major European and Australian opera and philharmonic orchestras, I welcome all students, from those picking up the instrument for the first time to those preparing for professional auditions. My primary aim in teaching is to create an atmosphere of mutual trust and respect in which students can draw motivation to set and accomplish their goals, with my full commitment towards helping them achieve those. Getting the foundations of good playing and good musicianship right is of course a very close and no less important second! During their journey, students can count on my patience, understanding and sympathy to help them through all challenges. I tailor my teaching style to fit all students based on their individual needs and wishes, or those of their parents if they're too young to decide for themselves. I'm determined to break the stereotype of teachers being failed performers and teach not only by demonstration, but by playing with students as an accompanist or duet partner, even with absolute beginners. I started learning music when I was 4 years old and cello when at the age of 6. I discovered my love for music and that is what I share with my students. I have around 15 pupils of all levels and ages and I teach at my own studio (De Constant Rebecquestraat 3) or at your place! If you are in The Hague area and you want to learn the cello or improve your playing, you are welcome to do lessons with me! FIRST LESSON: The first lesson consists of getting to know each other. This is essential to choose the best teaching approach. All the students are unique, that is why I always choose the method that adapts better to your needs. Then, we elaborate a personal plan, depending on your level, expectations, practice time, and taste. TECHNIQUE: Learning the proper technique of the instrument is very important to avoid injuries and to be able to express ourselves and perform our musical ideas in a successful way. That is why we learn nice songs in different styles, depending on your taste (from classical to jazz, film music, pop, etc.) and we combine it with cello method books with progressive exercises to improve the cello knowledge. In the case of young beginners, we also play cello games during the lesson to make the learning experience dynamic and fun! Children can lose attention and get bored very quickly! I have been taking lessons from Teodora for a while now and she is a very friendly and warm person, as well as a very good cello teacher that knows how to create a pleasant, comfortable atmosphere. I play cello as a hobby and for me it was very important to find a teacher that can adapt to my level. And Teodora does exactly that, I don't feel pressured and have enjoyed every lesson that I had until now. Her technique, style, and way of playing the cello, show that the she has great and in depth knowledge of playing the cello. Thus, for those of you that are playing professionally or aiming do to so, I think that Teodora has much to offer. So check her out, she is amazing.

As an adult, embarking in learning how to play the cello without any musical background is a daunting challenge. Hector has made the start of my journey a very pleasant and enriching one. We started with the fundamentals of music theory, have worked through the physical challenges of playing this instrument and continue to build on the right and left hand techniques.
