The main aim of these lessons is to help singers from a wide range of prior experience and ability to further their passion for singing.

I am a recent MA Musical Theatre graduate from the Royal Academy of Music and have a wealth of performance experience in the genre. I am also classically trained and have achieved distinctions in classical voice grades as well as a BA (hons) Music degree from the University of Oxford where I achieved the cohort's highest grade for my performance recital in 2022. I have experience performing in operatic productions, another genre which keen students can gain tuition.

About Me

Originally from Derry, Northern Ireland, I am a recent Musical Theatre graduate from the Royal Academy of Music. Now living in London, I provide music tuition for students preparing for a broad range of exams.

I have a wide range of music knowledge, combining my musical theatre expertise with more classical teaching from the University of Oxford, where a graduated with a 2:1 in BA (hons) Music. This makes me well suited to teaching exam syllabi as the scope of study has become broader in recent years, including areas of study which are moving away from the standard classical canon of Western music.

Music Theory and Analysis classes for A-Level and GCSE students

These classes are designed to help students currently studying for their A-Level music examinations. I have experience across a number of exam boards, from AQA to Northern Ireland's CCEA. These classes focus on a number of key areas, such as set work analysis, unseen listening analysis, and written essay exam preparation. These classes use a discussion-led approach to learning, ensuring students can improve in their vocal and written understanding of music analysis.

Homework is generally given in the form of extra listening examples to immerse students further in the musical vocabulary of the set works they are required to study depending on their given exam board.

I am a freelance opera, platform and choral singer (Roles include Tamino [magic flute] Nemorino [l'elisir d'amor] and Don Ottavio [Don Giovanni] alongside many world premiers). I can teach vocal technique, opera and concert repertoire and sight-reading skills for budding choral scholars and choral society members.

I believe lessons should be first and foremost enjoyable, but also serve as a means to break new ground and inspire as much practice as possible at home! So we'll start by establishing an objective of the student's choice that reflects their ambitions, and then work through the appropriate techniques, exercises, and repertoire that allows us to get there in as enjoyable a way as possible!

Lessons will be supplemented with listening/aural exercises, music theory training, and performance/contextual discussions (if necessary!).

Hey! My name is Seán, and I am an Irish singer-songwriter based in London with 2 years of teaching experience. I teach a range of disciplines, including piano, guitar, vocals, songwriting, and music theory. Having taught students of all ages and different levels of musicianship, I am pleased to say that I have built long-lasting relationships with many of my students. Developing an understanding and knowledge of music theory helps musicians at all levels to perform confidently and interpret the music with ease. In preparing for a music theory exam you grasp the fundamentals of rhythm, harmony and melody which is essential for good musicianship.

If you're taking a Practical or Performance Grade 6, 7 or 8, you must pass Grade 5 or above in Music Theory before you book your exam to make sure that you have the understanding you need to interpret and perform music at these higher grades.

My classes are for the beginner to intermediate level musicians and I will cover everything you need for music theory exams up to Grade 5 theory.

Evie studied music at university in London and has been playing violin and viola for over 20 years. She is interested in a broad range of music, which she hopes to share with students of all ages and abilities in their lessons. As a performer, Evie plays in various settings - folk, jazz, in bands, as well as more typical orchestral and chamber ensembles. Her own musical interest currently lies in folk, baroque music and improvisation.

Evie has been teaching a broad range of students for the last eight years: those who wish to take graded exams, those looking to explore folk and improvisation, expand their repertoire, or brush up on technique. She also currently teaches group violin classes at a primary school in London.

She has found that encouraging a structured and regular practice at home, if possible with the help of a parent or guardian, is the best way to reach goals and feel confident while playing. Most of all, she encourages students to be open-minded, inquisitive, and ready to listen to a variety of music!
