I am an experienced and enthusiastic guitar tutor from Leeds, England, living in Berlin. I have a bachelor’s degree in jazz guitar from Leeds College of Music although I also play and teach rock, pop, funk, folk, and indie music.

In lessons, I aim to get students to play something they know as soon as possible in order to get excited about progress early on. We balance this with paying attention to proper technique and having one eye on the theory behind what we are playing to broaden your understanding of how music works.

I am actively engaged in playing within the music scene and have a real excitement for all types of music, whether it’s learning your first chords on guitar or working on improvisation or music theory. We'll go at the right pace for you and achieve your goals together.

I have experience teaching all ages and abilities of students, having taught in primary and secondary schools as well as private tuition for adults. From complete beginners to preparing a student for their college auditions.

Lessons are tailored to suit the needs of the student, in order to have lessons that push you to learn to the best of your ability whilst still being fun and musical.

Acerca de mí
I am an experienced and enthusiastic guitar tutor from Leeds, England, living in Berlin. I specialise in playing jazz although I also play and teach rock, pop, funk, folk and indie music. I have a real love for improvisation and enjoy teaching students how to begin to improvise and find their own musical voice.

I have recently moved to Berlin in order to pursue my career playing and teaching music. Whilst living in Leeds I studied jazz guitar and regularly played gigs all over the UK with different acts from diverse musical backgrounds.

I have experience teaching all ages and abilities of students, having taught in primary and secondary schools as well as private tuition. From complete beginners to preparing a student for their college auditions, whether it’s learning your first chords or working on improvisation or music theory, we can work together with the methods that suit you to get you there!

It is important to me to strike a balance of making music and learning how to apply music theory in an interesting way. I have a good understanding of jazz theory so if you are thinking of branching out and expanding your knowledge of music theory I can help out there!

Lessons are tailored to suit the needs of the student, in order to have lessons which push you to learn to the best of your ability whilst still being fun and musical.

Testimonial:

"George is a great guitar teacher. He inspired and motivated students to fulfil their potential at our large 11-18 school planning engaging solo and group lessons and leading Junior and Senior Rock Bands to perform at events such as Bradford School's Prom. He had excellent recruitment and retention rates and his students loved their lessons. I am happy to recommend him as a Guitar teacher."

- Sarah Ross-Shaw, Musical Futures UK Champion Teacher & Olympia Leader at St. Bede's and St. Joseph's College.
Formación
I have a Bachelor's degree in Jazz Guitar from Leeds College of Music, including a semester studying Pedagogy - the theory and practice of teaching. During my degree I focused mainly on jazz but also branched out to more experimental projects and briefly studied Indian Classical music.

Having just moved to Germany unfortunately my German is not particularly good so unfortunately I can only offer lessons in English at the moment. It is something I am working on so hopefully soon I can offer lessons also in German.
Experiencia / Calificaciones
Guitar, Bass and Band Tutor for "Learn to Rock" - a music teaching agency in the north of England 2014-16

Guitar, Bass, Ukulele and Band Tutor at St Bede's and St Joseph's College, Bradford. 2015-18

Private tuition around Leeds, England 2014-2018

Over the years alongside teaching I have been an active professional musician playing around 100 concerts or gigs per year around the UK and occasionally in Europe. These gigs range from small jazz shows in bars to large stages at festivals such as Boomtown Fair, London International Ska Festival or Manchester Jazz Festival. I can offer plenty of advice and tips to students wanting to play music live or wondering how to start or how to have fun getting on a stage in front of people for the first time.

I also love to compose music and really love exploring the fascinating world of composition with students. I write for a large range of styles and my compositions have received airplay on UK radio stations such as BBC radio 3, BBC radio 6 Music and BBC radio 1Xtra.

I have different kind of lessons:

1. Face-to-face lessons of modern singing

Modern singing: technique, improvisation and repertoire
The face-to-face classes take place at a studio in Prenzlauer Berg and are mainly aimed at adults and teenagers who want to learn music. They have a duration of 50 minutes.

In singing classes, breathing and vocal technique are worked through warm-up exercises, always with the aim of working the voice in a healthy and correct way. My classes are mainly focused on the repertoire of the student’s preferred style, which can be pop, soul, jazz, blues, bossa nova, tango and bolero, among others. Each style is worked differently and with the appropriate resources to lead to a good interpretation.

Both for warm-up and repertoire I usually accompany the student on the piano. Depending on the style sometimes I may work with karaokes. I also teach a good use of the microphone, to fight stage panic and to enjoy a performance on stage. The singing lessons are aimed at people of any level, from beginners to advanced, even to someone who is preparing an exam for an upper grade of modern music.

My main objective is above all that the student feels motivated, and not under pressure. For me it is very important that the student enjoys music and the music lessons.

2. Initiation to piano: modern harmony and auditory education

The piano lessons are aimed primarily at beginners. My intention is mainly to prepare my piano students so that they can later develop a more advanced style with a teacher whose main instrument is the piano. For this, I start with basic exercises for a good hand technique and with simple songs so that the student learns to read music. For those who already have a basic level, I start directly with scales and chords, mostly focusing on teaching songs in modern harmony. The main objective is the motivation of the student, avoiding pressure. For me it is very important that the student enjoys music and the music lessons.

3. Modern singing on-line lessons

Modern singing on-line classes: technique, improvisation and repertoire
Like face-to-face classes, online lessons last 50 minutes. They are also aimed at adults and teenagers who want to learn music and find virtual classes more comfortable, for whatever reason.

The lessons are given through a virtual meeting app, either Jitsi or Zoom. They are similar to those in the classroom, with the difference that a little more time is devoted to the repertoire than to the technique.

I consider of great importance that the student enjoys the lessons also in this case and does not lose motivation.

Jadenir
After successfully completing his music studies (Music Bachelor), he won a grant from the Brazilian government and emigrated to the Netherlands to take up postgraduate studies at the Rotterdam Conservatory with Prof. Vladimir Mendelssohn. He received his Masters in Solo Performance and Chamber Music with Honors. His diverse musical activities have taken him - both as a soloist, chamber musician and teacher - on concert tours to Brazil, Portugal, France, Germany, Austria, Eastern Europe, North Africa and Asia.
Jadenir lived in Vienna from 2007 to 2016. There he performed between 2005 and 2010 as principal violist of the “Spirit of Europe” chamber orchestra, in which he was also a member of the artistic advisory board and was involved in planning-relevant decisions on artistic and organizational issues. He also played in the RSO Vienna and the Ambassade Orchestra Vienna.
Jadenir has lived and worked in Berlin since 2016. With chamber music as the center of his life, he founded several ensembles with different line-ups in 2017. In addition to his artistic activity, viola lessons have been an important part of his life for many years. As a viola teacher, he has been in close contact with music festivals and music schools since 2007, especially those that are dedicated to social projects.

About my viola lessons

I offer dynamic and playful lessons. The goal of my lessons is to break the barrier between music and technology, so these are not taught separately from each other. Rather, I see technology as the merging of movement, breathing and sound.
Beginners and advanced learners of all ages from 10 years are welcome. I convey all kinds of music, their style and technique. I am happy to help advanced students prepare for entrance exams, auditions, auditions and competitions. I also offer coaching for chamber music ensembles.
The key to successful viola lessons lies in a transparent and open exchange: I therefore encourage the students to share their needs and expectations; and the family is also involved in their musical development.
My two main instruments were made especially for me and I was able to exchange ideas with the violin makers during the instrument making, which gave me extensive knowledge of the manufacture, setup and care of a string instrument. I am also happy to pass on my knowledge to my students in this area. Because with the growing understanding of the acoustics of the viola, one's own playing technique and trust in the instrument develop.
English, Portuguese, Spanish or Italian are also possible as the language of instruction.

Francisco
Hello!
Alright, I'll break it down into parts. If you look for a more "narrowed description" just scroll down to where I made a list :)

My name is Francisco, and I'm a guitar player from Argentina, currently living in Berlin.
I am very enthusiastic about teaching and sharing the energy to grow musically with my students.
I have taught music for 7 years in schools and privately at home. With private lessons, my aim is to adjust to the student's likes and abilities. I am attentive to the needs and the reasons why someone is wanting to play and learn music. And I try to encourage the curiosity and spirit of making music and not follow what is "considered" that you should learn.

What to expect from the first lesson with me?
To get to know each other. That way I see what you like and what you don't, what you already play, and your learning pace. Probably I can share with you something new already, and from there, we will build a "program" according to what you want your rhythm and time availability. I value singularity and I like to get to know who I teach, so that way I can help them better. It can be first chords and ways of learning new songs, improvisational tools, or pure harmony and theory stuff.
Because everyone is different, for example, if you like Rock I will go in that direction and teach you the elements that make Rock sound like it does and I won't teach you Jazz Harmony, if you like Classical music we will go over the abilities that you have to have to execute this kind of music, the same goes for the styles that I play.

My skills:
I play and have played mainly Fingerstyle Guitar, Jazz, Argentine Tango, Jazz Manouche, Rock, Rockabilly, and Experimental. I have worked a lot playing Bossa Nova at some point. I don't like teaching something that I don't know. So for example, oriental music I couldn't teach. And if we come to a point where I am not helpful anymore, I will say so. What I do like is learning with students, it is often the case that your students teach you new ways of thinking about music and I find that super exciting!

I was lucky to travel a bit of the world playing music with different projects and musicians that I admire, I always did this playing mainly Jazz music. I have played in bars and clubs and theaters in New York, Boston, Buenos Aires, and in different cities around Switzerland, Germany, France, Holland.
I was also part of several orchestras (Jazz, Tango, and Rock) in Argentina and the US.

I teach beginner - intermediate - advanced levels of different topics:
- how to improve technique (right hand and left hand)
- how to improvise (elements of improvisation, vocabulary, phrasing, etc.)
- how to visualize the fretboard
- how to learn songs by ear, and how to read music (or tab)
- how harmony and music theory work
- specific genres such as Jazz, Gypsy Jazz, Bossa Nova, Tango, Rock, and Fingerstyle.

The lessons can be also in German (basic, so you might need a bit of patience with me!), Spanish (that's my mother tongue), or English. They can be at my place (Wedding), all corona safe, or online via Zoom/Skype.

Shoot me a message if you are interested!
All the best,
Francisco
