Hello!

I've been teaching English as a second language and tutoring for 2 years, and have worked with over 70 children so far.

These have ranged from 4 years old to 17 years old. I am more experienced with younger children who are at either a beginner or an intermediate level, but I also have experience tutoring teenagers in higher-level English classes to help with classwork and preparing for exams.

I've really found a passion in teaching, and have decided to pursue it as a long-term career. I'm currently in the last stage of completing my TEFL level 5 qualification (equivelent to DipHE, CELTA, and Trinity CertTESOL).

This first lesson will mostly be introductory in nature, for us to introduce ourselves to each other and for me to assess their skill level and their needs and reasons for taking lessons.

I love teaching for many reasons. Some are deep, as described below, some are more simple. I love how fast the time seems to pass. I have fun creating lesson plans that match the interests of my students. The lessons are enjoyable and pass so quickly when everyone is engaged, feels free to be a bit silly and to use their creativity, and gets to discuss topics that are interesting or important to them.

I also love teaching because I feel like I am doing something worthwhile and important. My mother is Deaf. Because of this, I grew up very aware of the limitations on people who do not have the ability to communicate effectively in their social surroundings. This experience has made me sensitive to the importance of education and accessibility. English is increasingly an important skill, it is currently acting as a common tongue for much of our world. It makes me very happy to be able to provide an opportunity to young people to develop this skill that will open the world up for them in so many ways.

I have an Associates of Art in Sociology and an Associates of Art in Cultural Anthropology.

I stopped studying for some years in order to travel, and now I am back to studying to finish my Bachelors degree in Sociology.

I am also taking a certification course for teaching English as a foreign/second language.

I am a University of Cambridge graduate in languages (French and Spanish), Literature and Film, and an UvA post-graduate in Urban and Regional Planning. I have over 5 years of experience in tutoring, and am very passionate about education. At the basic and intermediate levels I use a system where the student can listen, copy and repeat information similar to the beginning of learning their native language.

Always wanted to learn Spanish, but the regular lessons go too fast and/or it doesn't stick, then follow these tailor-made lessons.

Why class for 40+, because we have learned from our own experience how difficult it is to learn another language later in life and that most books/courses are based for younger students.

All lessons are adapted to your individual needs and speed.

You do not need to purchase any books, all materials will be delivered by email. This is because we work with several books and in this way we can offer a lot of learning material and thus make the learning material varied (and also rehearse more often if necessary.)

There is no minimum or maximum number of lessons, you are the one who determines the frequency. Of course you can also do these lessons with your partner.

Lessons are given online via Skype and last 1.5 hours at a time.
Lessons can be given during the day or in the evening.

I am a native Swedish, Spanish and English speaker and provide tutoring in all those languages.

During the tutoring sessions the student and I will look for ways of learning that works best for them, so they can be as engaged and retain as much new knowledge as possible. This comes from listening to the student and seeing their strengths and areas where more support is needed.
The key in my teaching is to make it fun. I am engaged and motivated with my students, and want to help them see the fun and value in what they are doing.

Lessons are customised to the learning needs of your child. Whether that be learning English, Swedish or Spanish for the first time or practicing improvement of speaking, reading, comprehension, pronunciation, listening, writing, grammar, etc. Lessons can also be aimed towards learning a topic such as food, animals, sports, emotions, and more.

For children who are fluent in one of these languages, tutoring can be given to further excel in particular areas. Specific subjects that interest the student can be incorporated into the lesson to broaden their knowledge within this topic.

Depending on the students age, lesson duration can be adjusted. I also do lessons for siblings. My aim is to create a positive and enjoyable learning environment for my students.

Education:
I have ample experience working with kids as I worked at a YMCA summer camp in Sweden for many summers, supervising a group of 10-12 kids around the clock for 4 weeks, joining/monitoring them on their group activities/classes, as well as everything else logistically around them. I also have a genuine interest in child development and pedagogy as a whole.

I have a bachelors degree in Social Psychology and one in Media and Communications from Uppsala University in Sweden.
