Musical Composition Lessons in Berlin - in English

Musical Composition Lessons in Berlin - in English

Greetings! If you've come across this page, allow me to introduce myself. I'm Sean, a composer from Melbourne, Australia, now based in Berlin. I am currently freelancing all around Europe and have had my music played by some of the preeminent ensembles and contemporary music players. I primarily work with contemporary 'new' music, focusing on finding the expressive qualities of instruments and players, sometimes with edgy, earthy results that can verge on abrasive; though I am open to a wide variety of aesthetics. My practice is notated mostly, but I have experience with electroacoustic and non-traditional forms of musical composition also, as well as improvisation. Much of my teaching style comes down to creating feedback loops with my students. I am firm with my students to ensure I get their full potential. Of course, if a student comes to me with a particular area of interest and/or issue that is my main focus. More general students should expect to focus on building up their aesthetics and discovering new ways of using the tools at their disposal. I like to invest time in my students, including introducing them to connections in the professional sphere to assist in their trajectory as composers in the real world. This does not mean my students need to have aspirations to be professional composers necessarily, but it is crucial for 'emerging' voices to hear their music live - even in reading sessions and practice rooms with performers - to get the full experience of the cycle of composing. I am familiar with the software Sibelius, but prefer for my students to write by hand - at least for drafts - as this gives them the most agency and discipline in composing the music they seek to. I am looking to open my teaching roster to diligent young composers and aspiring amateurs. Limited spots remain, so please feel free to contact me to secure a spot. I offer all my lessons in English, with the possibility to integrate German into them as well. - SQ :) Note: please don't request free lessons; this is not appropriate.

Drum Lessons / Schlagzeugunterricht - Friendly, approachable, and enjoyable from the first lesson!

Drum Lessons / Schlagzeugunterricht - Friendly, approachable, and enjoyable from the first lesson! Lessons available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, & German. I am Tomás , an experienced live and studio drummer with a Master Of Music degree from the Royal Northern College of Music in the UK and I am available as a private tutor.
MY APPROACH
I am aware that everyone is different and therefore lessons need to be individually tailored every time. I will make an effort to get to know you as a person as well as your reason for playing the drums so I can then adjust your lesson material adequately. This ensures that every student is enjoying themselves from the very first lesson and therefore the learning will naturally occur much faster.
WHERE Lessons are at my studio in Neukölln/Kreuzberg. The room is spacious and comfortable and has a PA system and two drum kits, making it ideal for lessons. I am also available to teach at the student’s location; AGES I have taught one-on-one lessons to kids as young as 7 but also to adults in their 50s and 60s. Whatever your age, we will make it work.

 SKILL LEVELS
My experience ranges from teaching young beginners who are just starting out to mature drummers who need to polish their playing. For beginner students, I will teach you the basics of drumming in an approachable way to make it enjoyable from the very start. For experienced drummers, I can improve your technique, groove, feel, tone, articulation, dynamics, stage performance, vocabulary, listening, and reading. All this so you can become a better musician, not just a drummer. I also like to teach in a way that empowers you to teach yourself in the future. ABOUT MY TEACHING EXPERIENCE I have been teaching 1-on-1 lessons for 11 years. I also have 7 years experience leading drum and percussion workshops. ABOUT MY DRUMMING EXPERIENCE I've been drumming for over 22 years and have now recorded and gigged with multiple bands, some of which I am the co-founder and co-songwriter for. Styles of music I have performed include rock, jazz, funk, psychedelia, afrobeat, disco, dance rock, electro, grunge, metal, blues, latin, and samba. I have a Master Of Music degree from Manchester’s Conservatoire (Royal Northern College of Music) in the UK. I also have experienced producing, composing, and mixing which I am more than happy to share with you. If you’ve got any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me. All the best, Tomás

Electronic Music Production | Ableton | Beginner to Advanced | English/French

This class is for all music enthusiasts, whether you’re just getting started and need a solid foundation or already experienced and looking to level up. I'm a DJ and music production instructor with 15 years of experience, and the founder of DJ School Berlin. I also run my own label and organise events. My classes take place in a relaxed, intimate atmosphere, and are fully focused on your needs and goals. I teach both fundamental concepts and creative techniques, while supporting you in the development of your artistic project I also compose music for media (trailers, films, ads, games, etc) and perform live focusing on sound exploration and experimental performance. This means we can absolutely work on different musical genres or more unconventional, creative approaches. Passionate about dancefloor energy, it’s behind the decks and my machines that I feel most alive — and I truly love passing that on. I perform regularly in Berlin in clubs such as Watergate, Sisyphos, Hoppetosse, RSO, Golden Gate, etc., as well as abroad, most recently in Belgrade, London, Amsterdam, Paris, etc. Having worked in an artist management agency (Talent Scoot), I bring an added layer to the sessions — connecting technical skills with artistic vision, and helping you shape and push your artistic project forward ---- Sessions usually last 2 hours, and can take place face-to-face or online, solo or in a group. . Group sessions (1-3) are friendly, less expensive, more dynamic in terms of learning and interesting because you get to observe another student correcting TPs or or discussing techniques, which leads to valuable insights. . In 1-1 if you're more comfortable solo, and for more effective learning focused on you and your pace. I'll give you the keys to : - Get to grips with Ableton Live and set up an efficient workflow - Understand sound structure and audio manipulation - Compose your own tracks and develop your artistic identity - Explore different types of synthesis and sound design - Master the use of effects and audio processing - Structure, arrange, and bring your ideas to life - Learn mixing techniques and how to properly export your projects - If you're already experienced, dive into advanced production techniques to refine your craft I'll also accompany you and advise you on the purchase of your equipment/plugins/tools. Classes take place either in my studio in Kreuzberg, equipped with 2 CDJs, 2 vinyl decks, workstation, synths, drum machines and controllers or online with screen sharing with dynamic practice, TPs and follow up. They are a mix of theory and practice, and we also cover the values and precepts of this art form, giving you lots of pro tips and tricks, as well as creative goodies (VSTs, effects, personal racks) Don't hesitate to contact me for more information, I can send you a detailed document explaining all aspects of the training, the techniques covered, as well as the essential theoretical knowledge. You'll develop a complete understanding of the material, learn how to tell your musical story, create, record, finish, export and share your work. I am looking forward to playing music with you. Classical Piano, Music Theory and Composition with a Professional Musician

Classical Piano, Music Theory and Composition with a Professional Musician

I offer piano lessons that focus on the joy of music, learning the right technique and a psychologically constructive experience. I prefer to create an individual program for the student according to his wishes and goals. Overall, I aim to create a positive and calm environment for my students while teaching this complex and beautiful instrument. I also offer lessons in music theory: preparation for music schools, general knowledge and understanding of music theory, or a deeper understanding of it - if the student wishes to go further. Music theory can consist of harmony, counterpoint, analysis of desired works, chords, intervals, ear training... For those interested, I also offer the electronic tool Logic Pro, as I have been composing electronic music using this program for the last 5 years of my training. We can combine this aspect with music composition or focus on technical elements. My goal is to create a considerate and respectful space where making music becomes a happy experience. I like to teach in German, English and Turkish. Guitar / Bass / Ukulele / Theory

Guitar / Bass / Ukulele / Theory

The course that I propose is BILINGUAL FRENCH / ENGLISH, as well as 2 BOOKS. Age and musical taste are not restrictive when in the program, you can with qualitative daily work (not quantitative) quickly observe your progress. Here the pleasure of playing music is put forward. The kind of music you love most will be the focus of the course, their codes and secrets will be the focus of our study, that's what I want to share with you. We can do technical lessons and simply learn together how to play one or more songs of your choice or mine, enrich your game with this approach and your repertoire! (For example, We can re-arrange the pieces and make them more original by approaching the system (CAGED), and enriching their chords, resulting in new positions, new techniques and new sounds, using arpeggio techniques rather than strumming for 4-chord pieces, voicing and fingerstyle techniques, in short, expanding the instrument's playing fields and playing skills to keep progressing in your game and improve your rehearsals ...) If you make a request, this program is obviously accompanied by the pleasure of learning more in theory and being able to directly apply new knowledge on its instrument and identify its common or rare use in the pieces discussed in class. In this case, the theory is translated to be accessible to anyone, both for those who are connoisseurs and for those who discover everything from absolute zero. The exercises, songs, and theoretical explanations offered throughout the program are organized in an order of progressive difficulty. I wrote and produced 2 books of my method to learn the guitar and the music, that I sell to accompany my course and your apprenticeship in the best conditions and so that you can continue the course even at home and to review etc ... . There is ONE BOOK OF COURSES containing all the theoretical and practical program of the year, as well as a BOOK OF EXERCISE on the ranges and the modes that you can obtain directly. You can find here an indicative list of objectives that I propose in my theoretical program, which can of course adapt to your request. The general theoretical objectives of the course: --- Tuning / tuning and knowing his guitar: * Standard Tuning * Drop Tuning * Open Tuning * Adjust the optimal tension of the strings * Adjust the shaft axis * Adjust the action of the strings * Choose the strings adapted to the style of play / tuning * Change his strings -Know his chords: * Triads: Fundamental State & Inversions * Tetrads: Fundamental State & Inversions * The chord progressions of the Range * Arpeggio techniques (tapping, sweep, 1/2/4 fing.shape, etc ...) --- Know his scales and his modes * The Mode of the Major scale * 3 Modes of the Minor scale: Natural / Melodic / Harmonic * Modes of the Pentatonic range: 5 positions * Modes of the Blues range: 5 positions Etc ... --- Technique to the Pick / Plectrum / Tab / Pick (Electric Guitar): * Alternate Picking * Fast Picking / Tremolo Picking * Hybrid Picking * Palm Mute * Natural Harmonics * Pinch Harmonics * Artificial Harmonics * Shredding * Tapping * Sweep Picking * Legato Picking --- Strumming / Hand Picking (Acoustic Guitar) * "SnareDrum" percussion on the guitar * Arpeggios pinched with 4 fingers + thumb * Rasgueado (Flamenco Technique) * Generic Strumming * Fingerstyle Picking * Two-finger picking + Legato for fast melodies (eg a solo) -Play the metronome * exercises on click * practice on song riffs -Learn his favorite songs * without thinking about the difficulty, nothing is impossible with the right methodology -Improvise * choose ranges and positions * to place oneself rhythmically, to finish on the judicious notes -Theory of Harmony * Understand harmonization and its practice -Theory on the Melody -Theory of Rhythm

“ Lou-Indigo is hands-down the best teacher I have ever had the pleasure of learning music from. Having been taught by a number of music teachers for a variety of different instruments, I have experienced a range of different teaching styles and personalities, yet nobody has been able to keep me focused and captivated by music in the way that Lou-Indigo does. In the past, music lessons would always bore me, as I found that my perspective of music being an outlet of creativity would often be tarnished by previous teachers who took too much of a strict, structural approach to music. On the other hand, some other teachers would be too relaxed, often leading to me becoming frustrated by a lack of progress and direction. Lou-Indigo manages to skillfully combine structure, creativity and a relaxed atmosphere into a 60-minute lesson. I am the complete opposite of bored and genuinely look forward to every lesson. Instead of feeling drained after sessions, I feel inspired to learn more. In my opinion, Lou-Indigo does this by crafting just the right amount of challenge into each exercise, enough to give you a sense of progress and achievement, but not too much to make you feel frustrated or overly daunted. Furthermore, his clear explanation of music theory and guitar techniques, evidently backed by years of experience, gives you a deeper insight into music, uncovering the medium's potential for creative expression. I could not recommend Lou-Indigo more. ”

“ Marloes does an excellent job of understanding the student's needs and goals. Always attentive during the lessons, she provides clear/targeted feedback on areas of improvement and actively listens to your singing. Most importantly, she creates a comfortable/safe environment to experiment with your voice. As a beginner in singing, I highly recommend anyone who wants to get started singing to take lessons with her! ”

“ After only a few lessons with Jeremy, I can say that he helped me progress more than I was able to achieve in 2 years trying to learn the bass through Youtube videos… He helped with the theoretical aspects as well as with my playing technique. He is very methodical and adapts to your needs and requests, and he also provided me with homework and very helpful tips and practice exercices. Highly recommended! ”
