I work as an illustrator and graphic designer in Berlin and teach children of all ages the joy of drawing and painting through private lessons and group workshops. During my time as an artist in residence, I also led art workshops for local children to support and develop their creativity. Currently, I teach comic classes at a primary school in Berlin. I am passionate about encouraging children's imagination and self-expression. I especially enjoy working with children who feel unsure about their drawing skills, helping them discover the joy of creating art and build confidence in their own abilities. Art is a form of self-expression, and most importantly, it should be fun. I offer a safe and supportive space where children can express themselves and grow creatively at their own pace! why draw, how to draw? - in a world where everyone can take photos with their cell phone, why still draw? - Is drawing an attempt to capture reality or is it a tool to comment on it? The lessons are an invitation for beginners and advanced learners to try out various practical techniques and discuss the results. When it comes to drawing, one of the biggest obstacles is letting go of self-criticism and just starting and working. We will deal precisely with this difficulty. We will learn through extraordinary exercises how to simply train the hands and at the same time suspend the critical mind. Later, we will focus on observing the drawings and try to understand the mystery of what works and what doesn't. Lessons are offered for both beginners and advanced learners. After 6 years of studying, I completed my studies at the UdK in 2019. In recent years I have participated in several exhibitions and residency programs. All for a very reasonable price? We can do it! Nice to meet you, I'm Daniel. I'm a (private) art teacher, I'm also a freelance artist and have been working as one for about 7 years. I'm looking for students in Utrecht, I have a teaching space available in my apartment (I can share my address when you contact me), but am also able to travel to your desired space within the city. I can also teach via webcam, but I do recommend my in-person classes, seeing as they're more immersive and educational. I unfortunately do not speak Dutch (yet), but am confident we can overcome any potential language barrier we come across. I have a bachelor's degree in digital arts, obtained at Saint Luc in 2016. During my studies I made live models, had courses in color, 2D animation, perspectives and character design. I mainly draw with a graphics tablet. During the lessons we will see how: - look at an image, understand how the artist composes it, then learn to reproduce a style. - use layers - use filters to give more life to images - learn different coloring methods, from grayscale coloring to colorization with filters - use different brushes - export illustrations in the correct formats - integrate photos into your drawings With this flexible method, I could teach you in a few lessons to discover or deepen your drawing style and improve your renderings.

ABOUT THE CLASS: Do you have a character in your head, a story you’ve been thinking about, or simply an urge to draw and wonder what might happen if you turned it into a comic? In this class, we’ll explore how to develop your ideas into sequential form. We’ll work on drawing skills, character development, composition, page layouts, pacing, and the relationship between images and text. We’ll also look at inspiring examples from comics, graphic novels, and art history. Depending on your interests, we might create a short comic, develop a character or story, or begin working towards a longer project. You don’t need to have a finished story, or even know exactly what you want to make. We can start small, experiment with ideas, and build towards a larger project. There are no specific requirements regarding materials. We can work with pencil and paper, ink, color, or digital tools. If you would like to work digitally, you will need to bring your own laptop and software; there are many excellent open-source and inexpensive options available. ABOUT ME: I am a lifelong comics lover, as well as an artist, architect, and published comic book author. My background in architecture helps me create convincing worlds, environments, and backgrounds, while my professional experience in animation has given me a good understanding of timing and pace.
