Hello, My name is Joris, I'm a saxophonist and conductor. As a saxophonist I obtained a Master degree with great distinction from the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel, won the second prize at the national Lion's European Music Competition and already played as a soloist with orchestras like the Royal Symphonic Band of the Belgian Guides. I'm currently following a Master degree in Music Theory and Conducting at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel. I started conducting when I was 18 and highlights of my career thus far include a selection as one of only 24 candidates for the conducting contest at the World Music Contest Kerkrade last summer. Furthermore I have had the opportunity to work with professional orchestra's like MAV Symphony in Budapest, the North Czech Philharmonic, the President's Own United States Marine Band, the Belgrade Chamber Orchestra amongst others. Hello!!! I’m a saxophone teacher offering ONLINE and FACE-TO-FACE lessons in SAXOPHONE, MUSIC THEORY and HARMONY. I’ve been teaching ever since I began my higher education in Murcia, whether privately, at music schools or at conservatoires in Andalusia. As a result, I’ve been fortunate enough to meet a wide variety of people, which has made me reflect and realise that THERE IS NO ONE WHO ISN’T SUITABLE FOR MUSIC, because musicality is an intrinsic quality of human beings. They simply haven’t found the way to improve – the approach that works for them: the right methodology. So, every student has a different learning pace and different needs, but a common goal: TO ENJOY LEARNING, which is different from LEARNING WHILES ENJOYING IT. It doesn’t matter if you can’t read music, if you live far away (you can learn from scratch online), or if you’re a bit older; what matters is the desire to have fun. As a teacher, but also as a former pupil, I focus on fostering MOTIVATION. You learn faster without even realising it. That’s why I always try to focus on each pupil, their interests, their goals, and whether there’s a particular song they’d like to play... I also provide extra tuition in Music Theory for entrance exams to professional music courses and teach Harmony at all levels.

Learn to play to decipher scores and improvise by ear or by reading and analyzing chord charts. This course will adapt to your level of play: simple harmonies for beginners and more complex depending on the degree of mastery of the instrument. This course also includes a thorough introduction to harmony.

Are you a beginner?? No worries: no experience is required! 😁 I can teach you the basics to produce sounds with your saxophone: position of the embouchure (teeth, tongue, lips and vocal cords' position, an element often forgotten), fingerings, use of diafragma,... After the first two lessons spent on the mouthpiece and neck for the sound production, we will immediately start to play some super easy duos together to practice your capacity of listening, pay attention to the other, ear training as well. I normally use the book of Peter Wastall (titled Learn as you play) as support, but it is not mandatory. There are plenty of good books btw! Are you an intermediate / advanced student?? I am sure you can still improve in all the basics, but on a different level. I'll teach you the importance of the "voicing" (technique named by the american saxophonist and pedagogue Donald Sinta) to improve your sound production and projection as well as the capacity of correcting and improving the intonation. You can learn all about phrasing and music interpretation, from tonal music until contemporary atonal compositions. And still, you can improve your playing together, practicing in duo on different aspects like tuning, balance, interpretation, performance etc. Book a lesson and try!
