Hi there! My name is Norica. I am a pianist and a piano teacher from Tokyo. Just quickly to the point: My approach is holistic and systematic. It uses lots of fun exercise and nice educational materials from Japan in addition to the Internationally recognized standard books. (Don't worry, you don't have to understand Japanese!) You learn not only how to play piano but also how music works- music theory. I know what my students are good at and not so good at right off the bat. That's why I can tailor the lesson plans to their goals and needs. Also, if you like to take an ABRSM exam, the syllables will be tailored accordingly. So what will be tested on the day of exam are integrated into the lessons and my class/lesson offers all-round preparation for the exam. Another important aspect of my lesson is to focus on improving cognitive skills - increasing in memory, right-hand-left-hand-coordination, sustained attention, nonverbal communication, and a feeling of independence and freedom. Music lessons in a variety of genres, tailor-made for whatever the student (child or adult) requires. I can teach in a strict "classical" style or any song that the student might want to learn (as a composer I am quite savvy in arranging existing songs in any style and for any level). Input (daily practise) is required from the student for productive lessons and, if necessary, homework is given every week. I have experience with individual or group lessons.

I have been teaching both the pedal and lever harp for the past 5 years to students ranging from 7 years old to 50! I am very passionate about teaching and hope to inspire my students to love music just as much as I do! I take a patient approach to each student and after a short period of time I am always happy to see great progress in my students playing. Several of my students have won international competitions in 'The Feis Ceoil' in Dublin and have also gone onto study music in university. A lot of my students also learn to play the harp as a beautiful hobby!

There are two grand pianos at the location in Den Haag. There will be enough distance between the student and the teacher. For children, it is important to develop basic musical skills through Singing, Rythmique, and Ear training besides piano playing. I use one technical exercise book, the main textbook, and a theory book. Through these 3 books, students learn different aspects of music and they naturally get ready for exams and grades. After acquiring basic skills, students study Harmony and Chord exercise too. These are useful for playing pops and jazz, and they obtain a deeper understanding of classical pieces too. Private Piano lesson, from age 4 above. Children can start the lesson after being able to read the number from 1 to 5 and the alphabet from A to G. Advanced students who want to prepare for competitions, auditions, ABRSM, GCSE, IB exams, or the entrance exam of the conservatory. The concert is held annually together with students of flute, violin, and composition teachers. For the age 1-7 years, I have group Rhythmique lessons.

I studied many different methods and for the violin students my preference is to start with the combination of Cohen, M., Violin Method: Pupil's Book 1 Nelson, S., Essential String Method Violin Book 1 and Suzuki Book 1. For beginner piano students, I use Hal Leonard Student Piano Library and Suzuki Piano School. I can teach fluently in both English and Turkish as well as in some Dutch (improving all the time). I completed my Bachelor of music in viola performance at the Koninklijk Conservatorium in Den Haag with a minor in Music Education. At the same time I have a certificate in teaching artistry from a certificate program called ‘The Global Leaders Program, where for my fieldwork assignment, I traveled to Chile and Jamaica and there I taught music intensively to kids that are underserved. What is music theory? Is it just one theory? What do we do with it? How come so many of the greatest musicians didn't know even the name of the notes? Let's dispel the myth. They may, in fact, have lacked the names, but "knowing" in music means something else than a dusty stockpile of information and labels. Their ears, their voice, and their hands "knew" very well... Music theory is the way we get some order into the endless realm of possibility that music allows us. Naming and conceptualizing these possibilities is very useful in many ways. It provides us with an overarching and abstract understanding of what we have done (reflective element), and it can even open up to yet unheard sound combinations (generative element). But one point remains crucial: music theories come from music practice and come back to music practice. Theories are the most useful and loyal servants for music-making, but only empty speculations without it. In these lessons, I will help you to understand how to navigate music theories and what to do with them.
