I have over 10 years experience as a violin and viola teacher and I have a master of Viola Performance and a Bachelor of Music in Violin & Viola Performance and Pedagogy. I have performed across the world, following the music to Australia, New Zealand, China, Singapore, Germany, France, Austria, and Finland. I also compose my own music for myself and my students. It is very important for me as a teacher to support my students to have freedom of self expression and a strong technical foundation on their instrument. I want my students to love music and to love their instrument. We look into music history and listen to a wide range of musical styles. In each lesson I include an improvisation or composing activity so that every student is able to have the chance to share their musical identity and to gain self confidence. In the lessons I encourage my students to analyse the music and to make their own solutions to practice: with younger children musical challenges become small games while for teenagers and adults they are musical puzzles to be solved. I have a focus on freeing the body to play the violin as naturally as possible inspired by how Feldenkrais Technique helped me as a student. I know that it is much more enjoyable to practice when one is pain free and feeling balanced and relaxed. I include a small warm up routine into our lessons and am always careful to introduce new playing techniques with a relaxed posture. Feeling nervous before any kind of public performance is normal and part of being a musician. I encourage all of my students to conquer their fear and to feel wonderful in their playing. It is so important to have a chance to play for others and to share music is a special gift.
