The purpose of this class is to get you (back to) writing. It doesn't matter if you're stuck or just getting started. With simple generative writing prompts and exercises, I'll help you overcome your fear of the blank page and start writing. My goal is to help you "rest on the page" and get into a state of flow through techniques like freewriting, list-making, and word associations. You can also receive individual feedback and support on your current or upcoming writing projects, along with helpful exercises that you can do at home, which we can then discuss. The class can be taught in either English or Dutch. Ilona (1992) lives and works in Brussels as a writer, poet, and photographer. Her work examines the fragile architecture of being human, paying particular attention to what hides at the edges of existence, in the shadow of shame. With a background in English literature, linguistics, and political science, she has worked as a writer and copywriter for a decade. Newspaper De Morgen praised her debut novel Donkerkiemer (Pelckmans Publishers, 2023) as ‘particularly cleverly composed' and 'psychologically and philosophically profound’. Themes such as ritual, memory, and loss, as well as a gentle rebellion against prevailing norms and systems, are central to her work. She is currently working on a second novel.

During the classes you will learn about the art of building through drawing, painting, engraving and sculpting. By drawing you will learn the effect of a monument according to its place, for drawing appears to be the best means of developing intelligence and judgment. You will also learn about orientation, light and shade. You will inscribe in your mind the methods used by the masters to produce the desired effect on a given place under particular conditions. You will analyse the fundamental principles, the rules of proportion, those gentle relationships between the parts and the whole, which the ancients gave to the orders in ancient buildings, to those of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. To communicate your thoughts clearly, to record your observations and to find the reason for all things, you will draw, paint and engrave from nature. Drawing is a language, a means of expression and communication, an art that complements and is indispensable to all professions, such as speaking and writing. COURSE CONTENT Subjects: Architecture, urban planning, nature, history of architecture, history of cities, building techniques, natural materials, sacred geometry, decoration, ornamentation and many more! Techniques: Creation of natural paints (watercolour and gouache - access to a kitchen), sketching, perspective, sacred geometry, measured drawing, watercolour, gouache, charcoal and engraving on stoneware or wood.

My method is to trade as much as possible. I want to try to better understand your point of view or your way of conceiving your project. I will recommend movies to watch to arouse your curiosity. I will also give you a certain analytical basis, to better identify the devices and methods to achieve them. The art of cinema is often to play with codes, for that you must first master them. I will try to teach you to take a step back from your own project and to accept an outside opinion. Regarding video editing, my method is to take examples of short films / audiovisual projects, and put yourself into practice. Editing certainly needs a little theory, but it can be learned above all by practicing. So I will teach you certain methods and certain precepts to have to master. Performer artist, actress, and movement pedagogue, I propose to follow you in your work of scenic, creative presence, or simply to feel more comfortable in your body whatever your personal background. Initially trained in science, I studied artistic pedagogy of body expression at the Dalcroze Institute of Rhythmics. I also have a performance art diploma from the Ghent Conservatory. I have given courses in various structures (academies, asbl, cpas, etc.) and am an interpreter / director in various projects.

The class is meant for those who wish to enter the world of performance art - an experimental art form that originated in the 1960s in the United States. My intention with the lessons is to teach a student how to begin an independent artistic practice as a performance artist through practical exercises, readings, and analysis of performances (on photos, video and in events we would visit together). The basic theory and history of performance art are introduced so the student can get oriented in the respective art context. If desired, the class can go deeper in theory with the readings from the related field of Performance Studies. While performance ART is an artistic field, performance STUDIES is wider academic discipline working with the notion of performance not only in art but also in the sports, rituals, play, every day, sex, technology, business and elsewhere. I base the class on my years-long artistic, theoretical and curatorial practices and on my education in the field (BA in Site-Specific Performance, ongoing MA in Live Art and Performance Studies, BA in General Art Studies).
