For advanced students, the focus is on articulation, dynamics, phrasing, and how to play in a classical or popular style. My lessons emphasize rhythm and expression. It's not about being able to play something incredibly fast, but about being able to play a piano piece with feeling and in the right rhythm. I'm now 41 and have been playing piano since I was 8. I started with simple pieces and took lessons from various teachers, including Sherry van Baaren. In Enschede, I studied with the Russian pianist Mikhail Markov for the correct interpretation of classical music such as Mozart sonatas and romantic pieces. All of this has led me to now teach piano myself and also to write my own piano method. After completing my Bachelor's studies, I continued my musical exploration in Codarts' Master's program. Alongside my classical training, I've always been intrigued by the therapeutic potential of music. In 2023, I earned certification in Music Therapy, expanding my horizons and deepening my connection to the healing power of music. In collaboration with my colleagues, I am member of the Olga Trio. Our mission is to highlight the works of women composers throughout history. Best piano lesson I've ever had! Admittedly, this was also the first lesson I've ever had - however it was every bit as good as I had hoped it would be. Starting at the ripe old age of 35 I was slightly concerned that I might be too old to start, but Deniz made the whole experience very easy to enjoy, and she adapted the lesson around the very little bits I was able to do, while filling in lots of information that I didn't know. Looking forward to carrying on my training and would highly recommend to anyone that's thinking of taking the plunge.

My son just had his first piano lesson with Joel and he loved it. When the hour was finished my son felt a bit disappointed as he wanted to continue and said the class had gone by super fast. After Joel left our house my son told me he would really like to continue taking lessons with him as he felt he learned a lot and had a lot of fun. I personally liked Joel’s communication and professionalism when scheduling the class, and the planning of the curriculum going forward. I think my son will learn a lot from his classes with him.

It's a joy to work with Katie, she has a lovely personality and a very flexible teaching style. Apart from being a good pianist I value the fact that she is able to put music into context.
