GCSE, IGCSE and A-level Computer Science: exam technique and programming with a University of Kent PhD researcher

GCSE, IGCSE and A-level Computer Science: exam technique and programming with a University of Kent PhD researcher

I'm Abel, a Computer Science specialist based in Canterbury, Kent. I hold a BSc in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Kent and an MSc in Artificial Intelligence from City St George's, University of London, and I'm now a PhD researcher at the University of Kent, working on AI and reinforcement learning. I've tutored GCSE, IGCSE and A-level Computer Science since 2021. Who I help: Year 9 to Year 13 students on AQA, OCR, Edexcel and Cambridge courses, including Cambridge IGCSE. Some are aiming for a 9 and keep dropping marks on the long questions. Others are stuck at a 4 or 5 and have lost confidence with programming. Both get a plan. How lessons work: we meet one-to-one on Google Meet with a shared whiteboard and a live Python editor. Theory is taught through exam questions rather than slides, so every topic links to the marks it earns. For programming we work the way the exam does: plan it, write it on paper, then type it in and test it. Students learn to trace code by hand, spot their own bugs and structure the long-answer questions examiners reward. What parents get: a diagnostic opening lesson with a plan for the term, and a short written update after every lesson covering what we did, what went well and the homework set. One recent Year 10 student went from 50% to 81% between one school test and the next. I teach online across the UK, with weekday evening and weekend slots, and daytime lessons by arrangement. I'm happy to work alongside what school is doing, including mock preparation and A-level NEA support.

I hold a degree in Management and Software Programs (Rey Juan Carlos University) and have over 20 years of experience in IT and cybersecurity, as well as extensive experience as a vocational training instructor. I help you learn IT in a clear, practical way, without unnecessary technical jargon, whether you're starting from scratch or want to delve deeper into networks, operating systems, or security. METHODOLOGY The classes are 100% practical and adapted to your pace and goals. We always start from your current situation (your computer, your work, your questions) and practice with examples and guided exercises. At the end of each session, I provide a summary of what we've covered and, if you wish, optional exercises to reinforce the material. I explain things in simple language, repeat as many times as necessary, and we progress step by step. SYLLABUS AND LEVELS - Basic computer skills (beginner): computer handling, files and folders, internet, email, safe use of mobile phones and computers. - Office automation (beginner and intermediate): Word, Excel and office tools; formulas, tables, charts and data organization. Also advanced level Excel. - Operating systems (intermediate): Windows and Linux, installation, configuration, users and permissions, maintenance and troubleshooting. - Networks (intermediate and advanced): network fundamentals, IP addressing, switching and routing, VPN, WiFi and firewalls. - Cybersecurity (all levels): personal and business protection against phishing, malware and fraud, passwords and backups, regulations (ISO 27001, ENS, GDPR), hardening, vulnerability analysis and basic ethical hacking, SOC and SIEM. Preparation for professional certifications such as IFCT0109 Information Security. - Programming and data (on request): Python, scripting with PowerShell and Bash, SQL databases. WHO IS IT FOR? For children and teenagers who want to learn how to use technology safely, for adults who need to be better at using computers, for older people who want to overcome their fear of technology, for professionals and freelancers who need to improve their office skills, for vocational training students or those pursuing professional certificates, and for those who want to get started in cybersecurity or protect their company. FIRST CLASS In the first class, we'll discuss your goals, assess your current level, and answer your most pressing questions. From there, we'll design a personalized learning plan, outlining the topics, pace, and frequency of your classes. You'll leave the first session with a clear path forward and some initial learning. ONLINE AND IN-PERSON CLASSES IN MALAGA I offer online classes via video call from anywhere in Spain and in-person classes at your home in Malaga and the surrounding area. In both cases, the content and personalized attention are the same. Write to me and tell me what you need.

Artificial intelligence for seniors and the use of basic software

Artificial intelligence for seniors and the use of basic software

Objective: To understand AI without fear, to use it to simplify one's life, to know how to identify digital traps, and to use Word, Excel, etc. without difficulty. 1: Demystifying AI (What exactly is it?) AI is not a movie robot: Difference between fiction and reality. How it works (simply): The image of the "giant library": AI has read billions of books and uses them to predict the continuation of a sentence or create an image. Where is it already present? Spell checkers, Netflix/YouTube suggestions, GPS, and voice assistants (Siri/Alexa). 2: Using AI to make life easier Conversing with AI (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini): Ask him to write an administrative email or a complex letter. Summarize a long newspaper article or document. Plan a travel itinerary or find recipe ideas with what's left in the fridge. AI for creativity and memory: Generate images to illustrate a birthday card (Midjourney, DALL-E). Using AI to restore or colorize old family photos. 3: Learning to "talk" to AI (The Art of the Prompt) The context method: Why "Give me a cake recipe" is less effective than "I am allergic to gluten and I am hosting 4 people, give me a simple chocolate cake recipe". The expert's role: Learning to tell AI "Act like a travel guide" or "Act like an expert gardener". 4: Precautions and Critical Thinking (The Survival Guide) "Hallucinations": Understand that AI can make false claims with complete certainty (never take medical or legal advice from AI without verification). Privacy protection: Never give sensitive data (social security number, passwords, bank details) to an AI. Knowing that everything we write to the AI is potentially used to train it. Spotting "Deepfakes": How to recognize a doctored image or video (details on the hands, strange reflections, slightly metallic voice). Verify the information: the golden rule of cross-referencing sources. 5: Ethics and Impacts (To go further) Copyright: Who owns an image created by AI? The environmental impact: The water and energy consumption of AI servers. The future: Will AI replace us or assist us?

Machine Learning & AI Tutor | University Lecturer, MSc Distinction | Python, Coursework & Dissertations | Published Researcher

Machine Learning & AI Tutor | University Lecturer, MSc Distinction | Python, Coursework & Dissertations | Published Researcher

I teach machine learning, AI and Python online to university students, postgraduates, career changers and serious beginners across the UK and Europe. Lessons are in English. I hold an MSc in Electronics and Electrical Engineering with Distinction and I teach as a Visiting Lecturer on a Master's level module covering data analytics, machine learning and generative AI at a UK university. I also have two accepted international conference papers on deep learning for image classification. I set and mark postgraduate assignments myself, so I know where marks are won and lost on this kind of work. Who this is for Undergraduates and postgraduates on AI, ML, data science or computer science modules at any European university. Final year, Master's and thesis students working on a machine learning project. IB and A Level students moving into computing or engineering. Professionals retraining for data roles. Complete beginners who want to learn Python properly rather than copying it from videos. I work with students on UK, IB and continental European programmes. I have tutored engineering students in Germany and international school students across several countries, so an unfamiliar syllabus or a module taught in a different structure is not a problem. Send me the material and I will work from it. What we cover Python for data science with NumPy, Pandas, Matplotlib and scikit-learn. Deep learning using TensorFlow and Keras. Core theory including regression, classification, clustering, decision trees, random forests, neural networks and CNNs, together with the linear algebra, calculus and statistics underneath them. Computer vision and image classification, which is my published research area. Model evaluation, overfitting and hyperparameter tuning. Writing machine learning work up to academic standard, covering methodology, results and critical evaluation. How lessons work Send me your module handbook, assignment brief, thesis spec or the code that will not run, and I plan the session around it before we meet. Nothing generic. In the lesson I explain the concept with a worked example, then you take the keyboard while I watch and correct, because you learn far more doing it than watching me do it. You finish with annotated notes and a clear next step, and you can message me between sessions with questions. Practical details Online over Google Meet or Zoom with screen sharing and a shared whiteboard. Sessions run 60 or 90 minutes. I am based in the UK and teach across GMT and Central European time, with evening and weekend slots that suit students anywhere in Europe. Tell me your course, your deadline and exactly where you are stuck, and I will come back with a plan for the first session.

“ Baia was instrumental in helping my daughter prepare for the OMPT-F exam. From the very first lesson, she was organized, knowledgeable, and focused on the areas that mattered most for success on the test. What sets Baia apart is her ability to explain complex mathematical concepts in a simple, structured way while building confidence at the same time. Her engineering background gives her a deep understanding of mathematics and allows her to explain not only how to solve problems, but also why the concepts work. She provided targeted practice materials, mock exams, and clear guidance on the key topics that carried the highest impact. Baia was always responsive to questions between lessons and consistently went above and beyond to ensure my daughter was fully prepared. Thanks to her support, my daughter developed a much stronger understanding of mathematics and a more positive attitude toward the subject. She now approaches challenging problems with far more confidence than before. I highly recommend Baia to anyone preparing for the OMPT exams, university mathematics, or looking for a patient, knowledgeable, and highly effective math tutor. ”

“ I recommend Khalil without a doubt to anyone looking to improve his/her German level in both writing and speaking. He is a very professional, structured and knowledgeable teacher. He was able to immediately evaluate my level of German during the very first lesson and adjust the teaching methodology and materials accordingly. I am truly impressed with his patience and dedication towards teaching the proper German pronunciation with all its complexities and difficulties as well as the proper rules when it comes to grammar and language. We also had lessons using Skype which is also a good option for those who have a limited amount of spare time or are too far apart from the teacher. It is obvious that Khalil loves what he is doing and is willing to put all his effort into his passion. I wholeheartedly recommend Khalil for anyone wanting to learn the language. ”

“ I highly recommend Dr. Ibrahim. He consistently goes the extra mile to support his students and has a very logical and thoughtful approach to teaching. What stands out most is his ability to explain concepts clearly and guide the student step by step toward understanding, rather than simply providing the answer. He adapts his teaching method when needed and finds effective ways to make difficult concepts easier to understand. Dr. Ibrahim is extremely patient, supportive, and encouraging. His dedication, professionalism, and genuine commitment to his students’ progress are clearly reflected in the way he teaches. We truly appreciate the effort and care he puts into every lesson. An excellent teacher who genuinely wants his students to understand, improve, and succeed. ”
