During all my years of writing coaching, I have worked with hundreds of students who have never been taught how to write strong, descriptive sentences. They don’t understand how to construct a well-organized, meaningful paragraph, or they have never seen an essay developed without the famous “5 Paragraph Structure” outline in place. They do not know what critical thinking is or how it helps them become assertive, enthusiastic writers. The writing process itself is also a learning process from start to finish. Before we begin lessons, students submit a short writing sample so I can assess which skill area we should target first. Writing coaching is where I show and guide my students how to better their writing using different techniques. Like in any sport or the arts, evaluation and constructive criticism are another important aspect of their writing growth. They get feedback and advice specific to the assignments and projects they are working on, and practice outside of lessons is necessary if they want to see regular improvement and make progress. We also work on writing mechanics, which includes English grammar rules. This helps them become stronger writers and speakers, aware of common mistakes and how to avoid them. You want your child to practice grammar skills with a native speaker who has studied English for decades and knows the rules inside out. Every person in the world has the potential to be a confident, eloquent writer. All it takes is one step — or sentence — forward in the right direction. Alexandra has truly provided "learning with joy and happiness" in our Zoom sessions. She is a generous tutor and every class delivered knowledge beyond the basics and more confidence to her students. Her patient teaching approach is always encouraging. Certainly coaching women in the USA through Mariama Ba's Une Si Longue Lettre, a classic Senegalese novel, in French was not easy! Alexandra not only worked with us on our french, she anticipated our lack of cultural insights so that we could better understand a complex story.
