During all these years as a teacher, I have been able to experiment and learn from my students to develop a pedagogical method that is adapted to the needs of each person. My main objective is for the student to learn the technique of the instrument through musicality so that he can enjoy and create while learning. Trusted teacher: Are you interested in violin/viola lessons that are fun and enriching? I have over 10 years experience as a violin and viola teacher and I have a master of Viola Performance and a Bachelor of Music in Violin & Viola Performance and Pedagogy. I have performed across the world, following the music to Australia, New Zealand, China, Singapore, Germany, France, Austria, and Finland. I also compose my own music for myself and my students. It is very important for me as a teacher to support my students to have freedom of self expression and a strong technical foundation on their instrument. I want my students to love music and to love their instrument. We look into music history and listen to a wide range of musical styles. In each lesson I include an improvisation or composing activity so that every student is able to have the chance to share their musical identity and to gain self confidence. In the lessons I encourage my students to analyse the music and to make their own solutions to practice: with younger children musical challenges become small games while for teenagers and adults they are musical puzzles to be solved. I have a focus on freeing the body to play the violin as naturally as possible inspired by how Feldenkrais Technique helped me as a student. I know that it is much more enjoyable to practice when one is pain free and feeling balanced and relaxed. I include a small warm up routine into our lessons and am always careful to introduce new playing techniques with a relaxed posture. Feeling nervous before any kind of public performance is normal and part of being a musician. I encourage all of my students to conquer their fear and to feel wonderful in their playing. It is so important to have a chance to play for others and to share music is a special gift. Visualising, memorising and breathing techniques are part of the confidence boosting preparations for students who would like to give performing a go.

Toby is kind, encouraging, and works with students at a level that is appropriate. He has allowed my son to chose music that if fun and interesting to practice, even though the pieces are challenging. In fact, I often sit in to listen to the lessons, as they are so good. My son has had a couple of lessons with Toby while company has been over, and everyone has commented on how amazing Toby is as an instructor. It was the first time my son took a violin lesson through skype (I had my reservations using this media) but it worked out fine. Miguel is a great violin teacher, giving clear guidance and encouragement. He is friendly, patient and very knowledgeable. It was not that much different from a 'life' lesson. We used an ipad beside the music stand so the teacher had a good view of my son.
