I learned all of that from doing because that is how I learn. Endless jamming, joining bands, doing my own research, failing and trying again. Slowly figuring out what it means to be a musician. And thank god the learning never ends.

Now it’s time to share my experience so far with you. You who’s on the road with me, to help you on your way. As a mentor. As a friend.

The way I teach is different from every one of my students because they all have their own strengths, desires, and current obstacles. I try to observe, give key feedback points, provide relevant exercises and simply share the sheer joy of playing music. Because isn’t it just the most fulfilling thing?

I teach electric guitar, acoustic guitar, electric bass, and ukulele, as well as music theory, songwriting, and musical improvisation.

About Me

When I started to play guitar at 16, me and some friends bought instruments together and started jamming almost immediately. Of course we weren’t very good (at all) in the beginning, but we were a band! And we were having a great time, motivating each other and improving together. I got hooked, my buddies did too and after barely a year, we were playing our first gigs. I never stopped learning since then and music never stopped getting more fulfilling.

I believe in cultivating your intrinsic motivation to improve by putting music into practice and making it a fun shared experience as early as possible.

What I didn’t have at the time was a mentor. Somebody to focus my attention, correct flaws in my technique and help me understand the theoretical background of what I was trying to do. Would I have had that, I am sure I would have progressed a lot quicker. So this is what I am offering you now as a guitar coach. Together we will find what excites and motivates you and with some guidance, you will be on your way to achieve your personal musical desires.

Folk or classical acoustic guitar.

The teaching philosophy is adapted to the level of each individual, according to the pace of work and motivation.

For example, for beginners: Technique of the plectrum or fingers, coordination and correction of the right and left hand. Learning basic chords, simple themes, simple rhythms, reading tablatures (...).

For intermediaries: development of rhythm, construction of chords, writing of tablatures, basic notions of harmony (...).

Depending on your goals, you can learn, if you wish, to play 60 to 80% of current music from the first lessons, which often use the same chords and the same techniques. The objectives take into consideration the following points:

-Study of various playing techniques, chords, harmony, music of your choice, rhythm, with reading of tablature, teaching structured around the repertoire you like, technique of developing the musical ear
- Discovery of the neck, notes and basic positions of open chords
- Left / right hand coordination and rhythm exercises for the right hand
- Learning of different pieces of your choice
- Left hand control exercises, speed and precision
- Learning arpeggios

My name is Bjørk and I’m a professional double bass player living and teaching here in Amsterdam. I have 2 diplomas in Jazz Bass from Sweden and a degree in Jazz Bass Performance from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.

I love teaching and I have taught since 2016. And I love the bass!
I teach double bass, electric bass, composition, improvisation, band coaching/ensemble lessons and music theory. I have experience teaching complete beginners with zero prior musical knowledge to more advanced players, and in all age ranges: from 5 year olds to 74 year olds.

Every student is different and I always customize and adapt my lessons to your needs and your goals. And don’t worry if you’re not sure what those are yet, we can figure it out together! As I see it, music and learning should be most of all: fun! Of course it’s at times challenging, but we will focus on what you feel passionate about and see what works best for you.

It's very important to me to get to know my students well, to be able to customize the lessons for you specifically. I engage as much as I can with each of my students and always prepare every week for our lessons so that you can get a good lesson whether you've practiced a lot this week or haven't had much time.
