Private Piano Lessons: Classical and Jazz, Pop Performance/Theory

The lessons will delve into both the technical and musical aspects of piano playing, theory, reading music, harmony, ear training, technique, pedagogy and more. My aim is to equip students to understand different music styles, build confidence, discover their unique voice and continue their musical journey independently. As Thelonious Monk said, the piano ain’t got no wrong notes.

I'm passionate about traversing genres since I have studied both jazz and classical to a high level, making this class perfect for creative pianists and composers who want to go beyond reading music off a piece of paper. Trinity/ABRSM curriculum upto Grade 8, can also be optionally included. Teaching effective practice methods is a priority, ensuring students progress confidently and without leaning on me. Please note, I only teach in person to maintain high standards of guidance in technique. This is not possible via video conferencing. Since everyone asks: yes, I did study at Berklee College of Music as an undergraduate for some time, and I do help students out with their audition preparation for various music colleges!

Music: Yuvraj started playing the piano at age 11. He had obtained a distinction and high merit in Grades 7 and 8 of the Trinity Guildhall examinations by the age of 17. He furthered his studies at Berklee College of Music, and attended their international school, Conservatori Liceu, in Barcelona, where he trained under Spanish pianist Marco Mezquida Mateos. He is currently pursuing an ATCL from Trinity College London and wishes to reconcile his love for jazz and classical music in his own compositions. Yuvraj has performed multiple solo and group recitals. His influences range from Maria Joâo Pires and Bill Evans to Wynton Marsalis and Red Hot Chilli Peppers. He has 5 years + of teaching experience.

Creative and Journalistic Writing with ALMA Magazine

This writing module is based on a pedagogy that has a sharp focus on writing as practice and craft, but in a practical and experiential work environment. Rigorous training in the processes of writing and editing will accompany one-on-one guidance from the Senior Editors and mentors including myself, and involve rewriting and studying real submissions across fiction, humour, commentary, poetry and more.

Our curriculum has been developed to provide an exhaustive dive into the nitty-gritties of wielding the written word. The objective is simple: to play on your strengths as a writer or editor and help you find your distinctive voice. This is a competitive and exclusive programme, and we only select 5 applicants for each six-week session.

What’s special about WriteBeyond is its ability to give you on-ground experience of working at a living, breathing literary magazine. ALMA MAGAZINE is distinctive in its diversity of genres and writing styles. You will start to enjoy playing the piano both during and outside of the time of the class. You will learn how to be able to perform in a way that inspires your audience. I will teach you the basic music theory without going way deep into it because this is a performance class but you will learn what you need to excel in your performance. Additionally, I will teach you the principles of aesthetics of playing the piano. The repertoire that I focus on is mostly Western modern and Classical music, but we can also work on some famous Persian and Turkish pieces if you like. Drs Irene – Bellucci BBA BMA has more than 20 years of experience as a singing teacher in more than 12 countries and is now a household name among famous singers and actors all over the world – from the Netherlands to the United States. Her enormous knowledge of the voice and performing as a musician and her great didactic skills are some of her characteristic features.

Irene studied classical and modern singing at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, Haarlem and in the United States with Joan Lader (Broadway musical) and in Italy at the Accademia di Belcanto with Astrea Amaduzzi. I have been working as a singing teacher since 2011 and I'd love to pass on my knowledge and experience as a performer and songwriter to you. The Bass guitar lessons are given at all levels from beginners to advanced / professionals. You learn how to play the instrument, with the right attitude and the right technical and theoretical underpinning of everything you want to learn. A somewhat broader music theoretical knowledge can also be taught. Customization is provided to the student's wishes.

The music theory lessons provide insight into how western music theory functions and how it is applied in practice. Exercises are also done to develop the hearing and music theoretical exercises are done on the basis of either piano, guitar or bass guitar. The aim is to understand what the theory behind music is and why it functions that way.

The Guitar (or Piano) lessons are only given at beginners level. The basic skills of the instrument are taught and an insight is also given into simple music theoretical issues with which the student can benefit from these acquired insights until a much more advanced stage and make faster progress on his/her instrument.

The piano is one of the most universal instruments. As a piano player you can be your own orchestra and play as a soloist, but you can also make beautiful music or accompany ensembles, in any musical style.

In my lessons I want to offer the student a broad foundation on the piano:

learn to read notes, play and interpret existing pieces of music
learn to listen carefully, play it by ear and after a while learn to make your own piano part
playing with chord progressions, gaining insight into harmony and chord theory
learn to improvise and come up with your own pieces
teamwork, because this way you learn to listen even better

My own roots lie in classical music, which provides a good technical basis for the instrument.

Ever since I was a student, I have enjoyed making music the most when you discover various music genres (such as classical, jazz, pop, world music) for yourself. This way you learn to connect these different musical worlds. Hey! My name is Daan and I am a keyboard player, producer and songwriter and I am happy to teach piano at your home in Amsterdam.

I graduated from the Conservatory of Amsterdam pop department and am also very active in bands (as a keyboardist, singer, guitarist, bassist and drummer) and as a producer/songwriter in various genres.

As a teacher, I am mainly concerned with what the student wants to achieve and what can be gotten out of the student. Do you want to learn that one new song by Billie Eilish, or an advanced piece by Stevie Wonder; I can always help you. The great thing about music is that you can learn and perform it at all kinds of levels. My job is to find the right level for the right student, so that progress can be made at the same time as there is fun during the lessons.

In addition, I find it important that my students not only play the piano, but also understand the music and build up a knowledge of the music theory behind the pieces. This has helped me a lot to quickly make big steps as a musician.

You can also contact me if you write songs yourself and maybe even produce them that you want to take to a higher level. I can give you all kinds of tips to get the best out of your own compositions through my experience as a songwriter/producer.

I teach violin to children and adults, beginners and advanced.

Every student is unique. Besides developing good technique, I also enjoy meeting each student's musical wishes and dreams. Learning to play the violin is a collaborative process!

From the very first lesson, I pay a lot of attention to playing together, because making music together is the most fun there is!

In addition to individual lessons, I support my students' playing in orchestras, ensembles, and bands. There are also several opportunities to perform with the accompaniment of a professional pianist. Once a year, I organize a video recording day with several students for competitions and contests. My students have won awards, both in the Netherlands and internationally.

In addition to individual lessons, I offer a "MY LITTLE VIOLIN" STROLL COURSE for children aged 3-5. This course consists of 10 lessons for young children, introducing them to music and the violin. I also offer this course to English- and German-speaking children.

I teach violin in four different languages: Dutch, German, English and Italian.

Violin lessons at home are also possible.

About Me:
I'm a violinist with the Dutch National Opera & Ballet in Amsterdam. I've worked with numerous orchestras both in the Netherlands and abroad. I also perform chamber music and Brazilian choro (Duo Chorinho, with Alvaro Rovira Ruiz on guitar). I received international training at the conservatories of Hamburg, Rome, and Amsterdam.

I have been working as a violin teacher for over 30 years, including internationally, including a masterclass for Brazilian violin students at the University of Minas Gerais, Brazil.
