Olá! Tudo bem? Prazer, meu nome é Paloma. I am a Portuguese teacher, translator, proofreader, language lover, and lifelong learner. I am originally from Recife, Brazil, and since 2020, I have discovered my passion for teaching the Portuguese language. Despite having an initial education in a different area, it was through learning languages and teaching my students that I developed my skills as a teacher. I have also pursued further university certificates in linguistics, Portuguese as a foreign language, teaching methodologies, and translation. I have always been passionate about languages. In addition to Portuguese, I speak English and Spanish, and I am currently studying other languages (this is one of my hobbies). My experience as a language learner has given me the essential tools to support my students on their journey to learning Portuguese. Whether you are starting from scratch or looking to advance your fluency, I am here to help you speak with confidence and joy. You decide how you want to learn — our classes can be in English or fully in Portuguese for total immersion! My goal is to create a supportive, engaging, and dynamic learning environment where you feel comfortable and motivated to achieve your best. Why learn with me? • Personalised lessons tailored to your goals and learning style • A balance between structure and flexibility, so you stay on track while enjoying the process • Engaging and interactive classes that incorporate real-life conversations, cultural insights, and fun exercises • A patient, encouraging approach to keep you motivated and confident In our first lesson, I will assess your level, learning preferences, and areas of improvement so we can create the best strategies to help you progress as quickly as possible. If you do not see an available time slot that works for you, do not hesitate to message me — I will do my best to accommodate your schedule! I cannot wait to meet you and be part of your language-learning journey! Schedule your first lesson, and let’s get started.

Trusted teacher: Portuguese is part of the family of Latin languages, including Ibero-Romance languages, such as Spanish (or "Castilian"), Catalan and Galician. His accent is closer to Catalan and Galician (which shares the same roots) and the pronunciation of certain words has some peculiarities: the letter ç (with the cedilla) is used before the "a", the "o" and the "u" (as in French); the circumflex accent is used on the vowels for the pronunciation of the closed vowels ("â" as Câmara, "ê" as pêssego - and as "summer" - and "ô" as avô - and as "eau"); the acute accent (') is used for the pronunciation of open vowels (the grave accent is rarely used), such as' á' (água), 'é' (p- or 'head') and 'ó' ( as mó); the tilde (~) is used on the letters ã (as mãe or pão) and õ (as põe) to indicate a nasal pronunciation of these vowels; Portuguese uses many oral diphthongs, such as "ai" (pai), "ei" (as lei), "oi" (as boi), "ui" (as Rui), and "iu" (as viu); the letter "s" is pronounced like "ch" at the end of the words (as francés or pessoas) or before a consonant (as estar or esperança). When the letter "s" is at the beginning of the words (like sapo) or in case of double consonant (like passado), it is pronounced like the French word "sac". If the letter "s" is between two vowels (like casa) it is pronounced like the letter "z" (like "zero"). Portuguese has two official standards: the Portuguese standard and the Brazilian standard (no, the "Brazilian" does not exist!). Each official standard has differences in emphasis (more open in Brazil than in Portugal), vocabulary and some syntactic structures. In addition to these two official standards, Portuguese also has a great variety of accents and a great wealth of vocabulary, especially in Portuguese-speaking African countries, as well as in Asia or Oceania.

It’s a pity there isn’t more stars because Andre deserves it. The experience is excellent. What Andre does is find out what you’re interests are and he builds his lesson plan around this and then very knowledge that you need. I’m also a teacher of a different discipline and I am so impressed with what he does with his lesson plans. Couldn’t recommend him more if I wanted. Also has a great understanding of man languages. He’s a name for the future I think. Excellent teacher and highly recommended for beginners to university level. He will get you through.

Miguel

Miguel, is a very friendly and flexible teacher. The advantage of one-on-one lessons is that you can move to topics you really want to, or need to address, quite naturally. Miguel does this very well and adapts to your needs, often in quite an innovative manner. We use the standard Portuguese text book as a basis, but have a lot of fun doing different things around that: whether it is specific grammatical points, pronunciation, or structured conversation.

Leila is such a lovely person and a superb teacher. My first lesson was on a cold wet day, and Leila offered me a cup of tea and sunny smile. I thoroughly enjoyed my first lesson. Leila was so professional and organised throughout, while also creating a relaxed atmosphere which made me feel very comfortable and allowed me to try my best with my basic Portuguese! 10/10!
