AQA History A-Level Tutoring from an Oxbridge Student

This course is for anyone looking for an AQA A-level history tutor covering the following periods:
'The Tudors: England, 1485-1603' and 'Democracy and Nazism: Germany, 1918–1945'
History is a facilitating subject; it gives you the analytical and critical thinking skills to go on to do pretty much anything afterward. I loved the subject, getting an A* in my exams, and going on to study law at Oxford. It's also a challenging subject, heavy on content and requiring excellent exam technique.
With me, you'll learn all of that and more; I'll prepare you thoroughly, whether that's via targeted lessons on specific subjects you've requested, or by following a scheme of classes I will design specifically for you. I'll help you not only to learn the content, but also to learn how to use it, crafting excellent essays which will earn you top marks and develop vital skills.

I teach all my lessons online, so you will need a computer/laptop/tablet with decent internet connection and a headset (simple earphones will do!) so that we can communicate properly.

About Me

I'm a second-year student at Oxford, reading Law with French Law. I'm a dual British-Hungarian national with experience tutoring for the LNAT, Oxbridge admissions, personal statement mentoring, French, English Literature, and History. For the specifics of what levels I offer, please have a read of the list at the bottom.

I'm passionate about my law degree, but also about language-learning, literature, politics, and many more subjects. Studying a law degree and the process of getting there is all about rounding you out as a person with myriad interests, and I strive to engender the same intellectual curiosity in all my students. Whether you're looking to immerse yourself in a subject or just get through exams, I'll be sure to make the process fun for you.

How I teach will depend on what you want out of the lesson, so I'll encourage you to share your interests and needs with me as much as possible. I can tailor lessons to a particular topic you want to cover, or I can design a structure for a series of lessons to get you where you want to be in that subject, making adjustments for your needs throughout. The point is, I'll adjust to your level. Classes will be all about the discussion - engaging you in the subject, but at the same time, always making sure you leave with a useful set of resources to study from later should you wish to.

These are the subjects I offer:

French: language-learning from total beginners to A-level, including speaking, reading, writing, and/or listening. A-level texts/films: Un sac de billes, Un long Dimanche de fiançailles
If you are intermediate-level or above, expect interesting, topical discussions!

English language-learning: conversation, reading, writing, listening, and/or speaking for intermediate to advanced level language-learners

English Literature A level tutoring for the following texts: Othello, ‘Isabella’, ‘La Belle Dame sans Merci’, ‘Lamia’, ‘The Eve of St Agnes’, Death of a Salesman, The Handmaid’s Tale, The Kite Runner, Songs of Innocence and of Experience

History A level tutoring for the following periods: The Tudors: England, 1485-1603; Democracy and Nazism: Germany, 1918–1945

LNAT tutoring: coaching for multiple-choice questions and essay-writing technique

University admissions tutoring: personal statement support, mock interviews, interview prep, Oxbridge interview prep/tutorial tasters

Education

Second-year student reading Law with French Law at Oxford
First Class in Law Moderations (first-year university exams)
A* in English Literature, French, History, and Mathematics A-Levels
A in AS Politics
A* in 11 GCSEs
LNAT score of 31 (significantly higher than the national and the Oxford average)

Experience / Qualifications

I have experience tutoring students of ages ranging from twelve to eighteen, tailoring content to different subjects, interests, and needs.
Most importantly, I teach only for the topics that I myself covered so that I have first-hand experience of the exams, and I have resources specially prepared for those subjects which got me top marks, and will get you the same with some guidance.
Regarding Oxbridge mentoring and law admissions preparations, I've been through it myself, having successfully carried out a mock interview and then the real thing, getting into my chosen College. It's an arduous process, but the best way to prepare is practising and challenging yourself. The particular style of Oxbridge interviews means that it is easy to be fazed, and hard to prepare alone. With my experience and support, you'll know what to expect, and so you'll be familiar enough with the style of questions to be able to perform to the very best of your abilities. As someone who went to a comprehensive state school, I know how important confidence and familiarity with the process can be, and I'm eager to help supply it.
This class is for anyone who wants to learn French, whether you're a complete beginner or you're well into your GCSE or A-level. I'm a Law with French Law student at Oxford, so I'm passionate about language-learning at all levels. I achieved full marks at GCSE and A-level, so I know exactly how challenging the exams can be and how you can ace them all the same, and I'm eager to pass on my knowledge. I have tutored students of various ages, from twelve to eighteen, so the level will be tailored exactly to your needs and interests (or your child's). This can be language-learning for its own sake or else GCSE or A-level exam preparation. Whatever the reason, classes will be fun and engaging. Apart from the many discussions and activities designed to suit your needs, you'll come away from each class with some fantastic resources to continue studying on your own if you want to. You can come to me with a specific request about what you want to focus on, or equally tell me what level you want to get to, and I'll design a series of classes to get you there, and have some fun on the way. I look forward to meeting you!
This course is for anyone needing help with English language-learning, particularly for conversation, reading, and writing. I'm a native English speaker and a second-year student at Oxford reading Law with French Law. As such, my English is excellent, but I also know what it's like learning a foreign language (in my case, French). If you need someone to have basic or more advanced discussions with or someone to help you out with reading and writing tasks, whether that's just to further your own English skills or whether it's for an exam, I can guide you through the whole process. With experience tutoring all age groups, I will always make classes engaging and tailored to your level.
This class is for students of the AQA English Literature A-Level course, studying one or more of the following texts: Othello, ‘Isabella’, ‘La Belle Dame sans Merci’, ‘Lamia’, ‘The Eve of St Agnes’, Death of a Salesman, The Handmaid’s Tale, The Kite Runner, Songs of Innocence and of Experience, and/or unseen poetry. When taught properly, I believe English Literature is a pleasure to study and to teach. With me, you'll learn to read texts on a deeper level than before, singling out extracts and quotes to study in depth, and learning the analytical skills, organisational skills, and exam technique to produce brilliant essays. I can provide a structured scheme of work across several lessons to get you to the level you believe you need. Equally, I can be flexible and tailor one-off lessons to whatever issue you're struggling with at the time. My aim is for you to find yourself looking at texts in a new light, with historical and social context to back you up in some truly original analysis that will earn you top marks in an exam.
This course is for anyone preparing to take the LNAT or undergoing university admissions for a law degree in the UK. I'm an Oxford student in the second year of a Law with French Law degree. Having passed the LNAT and a rigorous applications process with flying colours, I'm well-placed to provide tailored guidance for the exam, interviews, and crafting a personal statement which reflects your greatest strengths. Most of all, I'm passionate about my degree, so I can show you what it means to study the law at a high level, challenging and supporting you so that you go into the process with your eyes open and with a real interest in your chosen subject. So if you just want a taste of the law or Oxbridge-style teaching, or if you want a comprehensive course of mock interviews and personal statement support, get in touch - I look forward to meet you!

Emma
Private lessons for schoolchildren, high school students and students
My learning philosophy is simple: if you don't understand the information, you can't remember it. A teacher does not always have the time to answer all the questions that his students ask themselves; this is where I come in! I make sure that the students I help understand the stakes of their lesson, the importance of such a fact in a chronology, and can reproduce it correctly during their test. In the subjects of the humanities in particular, which are French, history, philosophy and English, the methodology has a crucial place, especially for high school students. A reasoning can only be noted well if it is clear and well structured; I am here to accompany the students on their way to reach this goal.

Become first in your class in History-Geography, in middle and high school
- Private history and geo lessons at secondary and high school level - The courses take place as follows: 1 - Exhibition of the key concepts of the course: the most important knowledge is studied in the simplest way to ensure a good overall understanding. 2 - Presentation of non-essential concepts: to be among the best in his class, the student's knowledge must extend beyond the main concepts of the chapters. The student can then refine his revision using examples, anecdotal events and historical details. It is enough to place 2 or 3 of these details in his control copy to show the corrector that the student has mastered the subject. 4 - Active revision through exercises or games: in the form of riddles, multiple choice questions or multiple choice questions, the student's training is done in a fun way. The brain is then stimulated so that it can acquire knowledge more quickly. 5 - Assessment of essential knowledge: it is a question of making a list of events, dates and major figures in history in order to better memorize them. - At any of these stages, the student can ask questions. The answers will be simple and precise in order to clarify the course in the eyes of the student and to ensure optimal understanding. - If necessary, set up a memorization program so that the student can acquire the concepts more quickly. - Pedagogy adapted to the student according to his class (ex: 4th, 3rd ...), his pace of work and his motivation.

A teacher devoted to his students, I have a short experience in teaching but I always plan to meet or even exceed the objectives set. A relentless and voluntary professional, I always aim to provide a service of excellence. Tactical builder, I know how to train students. I follow a simple but effective methodology: I offer exercises, the student asks me questions, I tell him to make a summary sheet and I help him keep the essentials and only the essentials, then he can ask me again if he wants more details or another aspect of the chapter, etc. Of course, according to the student, I would spend more time on this or that aspect of the chapter.
