Understanding Psychology - for GCSE, A-level, or first-year university students

I am a Psychology graduate holding a first-class honors degree. I have been studying Psychology for the past five years; from A-level up to my university graduation. I am passionate about the Renaissance nature of Psychology; all of the different topics and areas you have to learn about to become a Psychologist - but this also makes Psychology a difficult subject to master.

Throughout our lessons, you can guide me through the exact topics you would like to cover. For example, you might be a whizz at social psychology but totally stuck in cognitive or child psychology, and so I can target my lessons to your exact needs. Together we will go through topics within psychology as well as tackling tasks and activities together.

    About Me

Hi! I'm Anthoni, but feel free to call me Ant or Toni. I'm a first-class Psychology graduate living in Manchester with a love of all things languages. I have a few years experience in tutoring. I love teaching because it allows me to supply pupils with the tools required to embrace new skills and subjects - often those that I am also passionate about! Looking forward to meeting you in the lesson space soon.

    Education

First-Class Honours BSc Psychology from the University of Salford. Specialisms in Cognitive Psychology, Psycholinguistics, and Child Language Development. 120-hour TEFL certificate.

    Experience / Qualifications

Around 2 years tutoring experience teaching English Language (GCSE) and Psychology (A-level), TEFL qualified. 120-hour TEFL certificate.
I am a TEFL-qualified English teacher with extensive experience teaching the English Language GCSE online. Throughout our lessons we will tackle exam-style questions together, using tips and tricks I have developed to answer the questions in the most efficient way possible. I will share techniques such as paragraph structures (like PEAR and PEEL), creative writing structuring techniques, and more. For the most part, my lessons are quite hands-on - we will spend a lot of time dealing with activities and tasks together so you get plenty of real experience of completing the exam - but I am also unafraid of tackling explanations of tricky topics like grammar rules and linguistic devices.
I have experience in teaching the English language to a GCSE (under-16s education) level online, in addition to holding a 120-hour TEFL qualification. I love languages, and I'm keen to share that love with others of all ages. Teaching somebody a second language is providing them with the tools required to communicate with a whole cohort of people they otherwise may not have been able to meet, alongside nurturing their ability to express themselves creatively and enhancing their pleasure of reading. My lessons tend to be quite hands-on - we look at tackling language activities together such as reading and analyzing passages from texts for meaning and content, writing diary entries and letters, and other such tasks. This doesn't mean that I'm afraid of getting my teeth into explaining and discussing tough language and linguistic concepts also, such as tough grammar rules and linguistic devices!
Nothing about applying to university is easy or straight forward. Perhaps the biggest ask is the personal statement: somehow, you are expected to condense your life story and choices down into a single sheet of paper, to advertise yourself as a student to your chosen university/universities. During an already tumultuous period of your life, you are expected to somehow reflect adequately, sell yourself, and justify your life choices all at once in order to pursue your academic dreams. When I applied to university, I received offers from all 5 of my choices (Manchester Metropolitan University, Glasgow Caledonian University, Salford University, University of Strathclyde, and the University of West Scotland). I'm now looking to help you with your university application process. During our sessions we can look at how to best tell your story in a way that makes sense to a university admissions team, how to structure your personal statement, the type of language that is appropriate to use, and quick and easy proofreading tips. I look forward to hearing from you!
Poetry is as much a tool of personal expression as it is a creative discipline. While the importance of learning about style, stanzas, and sibilance is undeniably important, so is discovering your own authorial voice. These sessions are designed to support you in discovering what makes your poetry 'yours'. Together we will look at examples of other's poems to dissect how the authors use various techniques and linguistic devices to construct poems before looking at how to apply those devices in ways that help us achieve our desired outcomes. We will also break down what poetry means to us individually, recap different types of and form within poetry, complete writing sprints, and more. You will also have the opportunity to 'workshop' examples of your work with me, if desired. I first had poetry published in 2016, and have been featured in several magazines and journals in the past few years - throughout 2020/21 I was featured in a number of publications including the prestigious Train River Publishing Quarterly, Creatures Magazine, Felan Zine, Fresh Froot mag, and more. I am also versed in writing prose and lyrics, and I have extensive experience teaching English.
Academic writing is the key to ensuring you receive top grades throughout your studies. Of course, your content needs to be of a superb quality also, but without a high standard of academic writing how can your tutors, teachers, and lecturers award you with the mark you deserve? You're studying your topic already, you know your field and content like the back of your hand - but do you know how to present it in a suitable format? Together we will break down how to develop excellent essay plans, use topic sentences, and paragraph structures, in addition to recapping topics such as sentence forms and punctuation. During my time at university I maintained a high standard of work, graduating with a first class honours degree in BSc Psychology. I achieved this by refining my academic writing abilities and attending many classes on developing my academic writing style.
Starting out at university is difficult enough - your work is suddenly anticipated to be of a stratospheric standard while you are still settling in to a new way of life. You're affronted with new depths to your chosen field that you hadn't accounted for - and to make matters worse, everything has to be formatted in a new (to you) style called APA format. APA formatting is a writing style and standard developed by the American Psychology Association, and many undergraduate psychology courses require all written coursework to be presented in this style; whether it be a scientific report or a long-form essay. Together we will spend these sessions breaking down exactly what the APA format is, and how to ensure all of your written work meets those standards. Throughout our sessions, we will cover how to use APA-style referencing, how to format our psychological reports (both Quantitative and Qualitative) via the use of appropriate headings and sub-headings, how to present statistics, and more. I am a recent BSc Psychology graduate holding a first-class degree. I achieved this by ensuring my academic writing style and grasp of the APA format was of a high standard. I look forward to sharing what I've learnt with you!

Attention and behavior. Analysis of Contemporary Society.
What happens if: you manage to direct your attention well? If you take time there? If you have a high degree of self-control and self-reflection? If you are creative, problem solver or sharp are an observer? If you communicate well and get to know each other better. Then you can actually take happiness from everything around you. And if we are all like that? Then have a blooming civilization. A civilization that has less hierarchy and is transparent. And if we're not all like that can be? A world disaster. The road to inequality, extremism, manipulation and mistrust. If you then look closely at what is decisive between the two paths, behavior appears to be at the basis stand. Changing our behavior starts with attention. Changing our behavior starts with realizing it our attention needs balance. Changing our behavior starts with realizing that attention and time are two building blocks of learning throughout your life

Support in biology: Thesis/Article writing & comprehending concepts
Being able to think, analyse and write scientifically is a huge challenge, especially when it's in a foreign language. As a post-doctoral researcher at the CNRS in Paris, and being already >10 years involved in neurobiological research, article writing and science popularization, I can help you comprehend difficult concepts, (statistically) analyse data, how to present results attractively, and edit a thesis or article with correct scientific jargon. I have a PhD in biology, published more than 20 internationally peer-reviewed articles, (co-)authored two books, and contributed to several popularizing articles. I also guided several students at the university in both Belgium and France, and teached practical courses in physiology. While Dutch is my mother language, I write and speak fluent English, and also have a good level in French. I'm very passionate about science, and I would be more than happy to help you out gain novel insights, and push you to a higher level of scientific thinking. For several years, we have been offering “Walk and Talk” therapy sessions. This way of practicing psychology first appeared in the United States, when a New York psychotherapist realized that by accompanying his patient in a park, he managed to deliver himself more openly, in a more concentrated and energetic. As the name suggests, this approach is “walk and talk”. More precisely, it is a professional accompaniment by a qualified therapist - coach, associating active listening, walking and nature. Therapy has enormous benefits for physical and psychological well-being. One step after another, you will advance at your own pace on the path to wellness while being accompanied by a qualified travel companion. PROGRAM What happens during a session ? 1. Go directly outside; it can be at the entrance to a forest, by the lake. 2. Then, like two fellow travelers, start a side-by-side walk along a route known to the therapist. Together, you analyze the problematic situation and collaborate to build solutions that suit you. In the open air, creativity stimulates the senses and allows you to see things differently 4. At the end of the walk - walk - walk, you are generally more resourced, your batteries are more recharged and you have a clearer vision of your situation as well as new tools to deal with it.
