Composition, Arranging and Songwriting Class for different levels

The structure of the lesson is based on the pupil’s preference in music style, instrument combinations and others. We will talk about the harmony, rhythm and form while the pupil will be asked to create his/her own short works/songs. I always find fascinating to analyze music of the past (for example some of your favorite songs, instrumental works and others) in order to gain a deeper understanding of how these were created and from what musical ingredients they consist. Furthermore, integral part of this course is the understanding of the possibilities of each instrument and the combination of more than one.

In this course, you can also learn how to use music notation softwares such as Finale and Musescore in order to notate your own music easily and fast.

About Me

My name is Myrto and I am from Greece. I am a pianist and composer based in The Hague.

I am active both as a pianist and keyboard player performing in various and diverse music projects either as a soloist (classical and contemporary repertoire), or as a member of groups such as chamber music ensembles (classical, contemporary and pop music). I am passionate about composing, but I am also active in free improvisation in the local scene.

My music has been performed by ensembles, soloists, and orchestras in Greece, Spain, Italy, Belgium, France, the Netherlands and the USA, while I have been working on a number of multidisciplinary projects in collaboration with dancers, film directors, actors, and visual artists. I have composed music for short films, theatre plays, and animations.

Besides composing and performing, I discovered that teaching music is one of the most powerful experiences that constantly develop me as an artist and mainly as a person. Understanding, supporting, motivating, enjoying together the experience of music is something invaluable. I truly believe that music is a language that everyone should have the access to learn and communicate with.

I have been teaching students of diverse age groups, with different backgrounds, levels, and styles. For me, as a teacher, my goal is to motivate the pupil to develop his/her skills and share with him/her my knowledge and passion for music.

The structure and the material of the lesson are based on the skills, preferences, and wishes of the pupil. My pupils usually ask me to transcribe some of their favorite pieces on piano according to their skills, something that often is very useful and fruitful for their progress. Music demands patience and practice but all these become easier when you have a goal and enjoy the process.

In the first lesson, we will talk about your interests, motivation, and goals and we will create together a personal course structure.

The lesson can take place at my place or at yours.

Lessons:
Piano (classical, modern, contemporary)
Improvisation (stylistic and free)
Composition and Songwriting
Music Theory (Rhythm-Dictée, Solfège, etc.)

She is very nice and understanding teacher who support you on your piano learning process!! :)
Our son enjoyed so much a trial with Myrto! She is a very warm and smiley person, great and natural with kids! She was very patient and handled our 5y son wonderfully. It was very nice to have Myrto as she sparked so much joy and love for music. No hesitation to recommend her! In the end we opted for another teacher who spoke Russian to my son and that was an added bonus for us. Otherwise, we would be happy to continue with Myrto!
Myrto is a very kind and patient teacher. Kids are not easy to handle but she has a calming tone that makes them love her teaching from the very first time.
About Harmony Course: Students learn principles of linear harmonic continuity and guide tone lines; minor key harmony; subdominant minor; blues theory and chord progressions. Students also learn melodic rhythm, form, and melody/harmony relationship. - Stylistic Composition Courses - About Counterpoint Course: We will explore the mechanics of basic contrapuntal technique, focusing on the horizontal aspects of composition; in other words, how melodies interact with one another. The course begins with writing a simple melodic line that works with an existing melody. About Fugue Course: A fugue is a multi-voice musical form that hinges on counterpoint between voices. The pupil will compose fugues for a single instrument (most notably a piano or other keyboard instrument), or they can write them for several individual players.
I am a composer and pianist and I give piano lessons to kids and adults of a wide range of levels! Feel free to contact me if you are interested in learning how to play the piano or if you are curious about music theory or how to make your own music! In my classes, my goal is to approach piano playing in a holistic way, starting with a healthy posture, but also musical expression. We will work on memory, on the dependency of each hand and finger, integrating in every lesson the music theory and singing along with exercises on rhythm (TAKADIMI system of rhythm solfege) and last but not least, creation (through improvisation and other creative tasks) which will offer you the possibility to craft and master in a deeper level your piano skills. The structure and the material of the lesson derive from established piano methods and further music bibliography and they are adjusted to your skills, preferences, and wishes. I am always interested in transcribing some of my pupils' favorite pieces on piano according to their skills, something that often is very useful and fruitful for their progress. In the first lesson we will talk about your interests, motivation, and goals and we will create together a personal course structure. Experience in ABRSM piano performance exams in case you are interested in achieving a grade. Music demands patience and practice, but all these become easier when you keep your motivation alive by enjoying the process!

Experimental electronic music composition / Free improvisation (theory & practice)
Experimentation is an inherent characteristic of electronic music. Nowadays, composing music using technology creates endless creative possibilities that demand the musician/composer to adapt to numerous technical and artistic challenges. Do you like experimenting with sound and making music that does not clearly belong to a particular genre or style? Interested in bringing a fresh perspective and out-of-the-box thinking to your music production? Are you just starting out in electronic music composition and wondering how to develop your own style? This course is just what you need. In this class, you will learn: - how to transform sound using analogue and digital techniques. - how to create sound structures and organise them in a DAW enviroment to compose a piece of music. - how to record, edit and mix sounds using both conventional and experimental techniques. - how to use improvisation in both the context of live performance and composition. - about the theory and practice of free improvisation. - about the history and origins of electronic music and how it affected the music we listen today. - how to document and communicate procedures related to your artistic practice. - how to create an artistic portfolio. Aspiring musicians with a background in any genre can take advantage of this course. A formal education in music or experience with electronic music composition are not required to follow. However, you should be unafraid of experimenting with sound and music technology! Each class is customized to meet the needs of the individual student in an innovative and flexible way! The course can also serve as a preparation for applying to several Dutch educational programmes related to electronic music composition (Institute of Sonology, HKU, ArtEZ, etc.). The class is focused on small assignments that help the student develop a sense of orientation and set goals. Recording, editing, and mixing will be done via the DAW "Reaper," but we can switch to your preferred software at any time. We will use the first lesson to discuss your background, interests, and motivations in order to develop a course structure that is tailored to your needs.

Enjoy the music! Bassoon, Basic Piano lessons and Music Theory.
Highly dedicated and passionate teacher. Age does not matter when it comes to learning, just enjoying it. Lessons for beginners to more advanced students. Always trying to keep a creative environment where the students can express themselves in all aspects. I believe that it is necessary to be constant. The ideal would be one hour or hour and a half a week, but that depends on the student availability. I would provide a personal adaptation. I like playing games, singing and coming up to most creative solutions for learning fast inside of a save space for questions and imagination of the student. It is very important to motivate the students regarding to their music tastes. I consider myself an involved and motivated musician. I am constantly trying to learn new styles and enjoy so much doing it. At the moment I am studying my second bachelor degree in music, specifically in Early Music. I am very flexible with schedules for lessons so coming to a common point should not be very difficult.

As a musician I consider myself a very motivated person to always try new things. I also like to play from old music to contemporary music, so any style is welcome to try. During my Bachelor's training in Classical Horn I have trained in different educational skills techniques as well as in teaching ensembles and basic conducting. In addition to horn classes, I can also teach music theory and basic piano skills. I am very flexible with lesson times, so reaching a common point shouldn't be too difficult.
