I also regularly accompany students on the piano, and work on music theory, aural and sight reading skills for exams, including on grades in theory and academic exams across all stages.

As a performing musician, I've played as a soloist in venues across Europe and participated in several international competitions, notably receiving the Barbirolli prize at the Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition 2019. Testimonials:
Tatyana M.
Toby is a fantastic teacher. He is very reliable as he is consistently organised and punctual. I constantly see progress in my child’s music skills because every lesson Toby delivers is effective and well-structured. I highly recommend him to all who wish to learn or improve on their music skills.

Pamela B.
Toby is really a great teacher, who teaches pieces well and teases out the feeling while playing. We particularly liked that. Good technique is one thing, but feeling the music is such an important element in music and in learning a piece of music. He also teaches theory very well!

Hanna S.
Toby can explain things very well and understandably, is patient and friendly and easily adapts to the level of the student

Toby is an excellent English teacher. I wanted to focus on my pronunciation and accent. He had patiently walked together with me with the various methods. I loved so much how he taught me English. And I started hearing from multiple friends that my English has improved. Significantly! These compliments made our days :) I would be pleased to recommend him.

George
Guitar Tutoring in Berlin for all ages and abilities.
I am an experienced and enthusiastic guitar tutor from Leeds, England, living in Berlin. I have a bachelor’s degree in jazz guitar from Leeds College of Music although I also play and teach rock, pop, funk, folk and indie music. In lessons I aim to get students playing something they know as soon as possible in order to get excited about progress early on. We balance this with paying attention to proper technique and having one eye on the theory behind what we are playing to broaden your understand of how music works. I am actively engaged in playing within the music scene and have a real excitement for all types of music, whether it’s learning your first chords on guitar or working on improvisation or music theory. We'll go at the right pace for you and achieve your goals together. I have experience teaching all ages and abilities of students, having taught in primary and secondary schools as well as private tuition for adults. From complete beginners to preparing a student for their college auditions. Lessons are tailored to suit the needs of the student, in order to have lessons which push you to learn to the best of your ability whilst still being fun and musical.

Piano, Music theory lessons in English for all ages and levels.
I am a highly motivated and enthusiastic piano teacher from South Korea with an experience working with students from a diverse range of backgrounds and ages. After graduating from a university in Seoul in South Korea with a B.A. in classical piano, I taught piano to foreign students in English not only in Korean. Since September 2017, I have been working as a piano teacher at this beautiful music school in Berlin. I am teaching piano to 18 students using English and a decent amount of German. I create professional, tailored and individual lesson plans for a diverse range of various students. In lessons, I engage actively with students and focuse on improving posture, developing practice strategies (i.e. utilizing various rhythm patterns on difficult, technical passages), and setting regular practice times, while also building a positive and encouraging atmosphere. I am a strong interpersonal communicator and I am passionate about helping my students grow and realize their full potential. I teach with love, patience, and encouragement, and I have a strong flexibility to adapt to novel circumstances. I give piano lessons at a music school in Reinickendorf in Berlin and I also occasionally offer piano lessons in student's own home in Berlin.

Francisco
Guitar/Music/Composition Lessons in Berlin (All ages and all levels welcome!)
Hello! Alright I'll break it down by parts. If you look for a more "narrowed description" just scroll down where I made a list :) My name is Francisco, and I'm a guitar player from Argentina, currently living in Berlin. I am very enthusiastic about teaching and sharing the energy to grow musically to my students. I have taught music for 7 years in schools and privately at home. With private lessons my aim is to adjust to the student likes and abilities. I am attentive to the needs and the reasons why someone is wanting to play and learn music. And I try to encourage the curiosity and spirit of making music and not follow what is "considered" that you should learn. What to expect from the first lesson with me? To get to know each other. That way I see what you like and what you don't, what you already play, and your learning pace. And probably I can share with you something new already, and from there, we will build a "program" according to what you want and your rhythm, and time availability. I value singularity and I like to get to know who I teach, so that way I can help them better. It can be first chords and ways of learning new songs, or improvisational tools, or pure harmony and theory stuff. Because everyone is different, for example, if you like Rock I will go in that direction and teach you the elements that make Rock sound like it does and I won't teach you Jazz Harmony, if you like Classical music we will go over the abilities that you have to have to execute this kind of music, the same goes for the styles that I play. My skills: I play and have played mainly Fingerstyle Guitar, Jazz, Argentine Tango, Jazz Manouche, Rock, Rockabilly, Experimental. I have worked a lot playing Bossa Nova at some point. I don't like teaching something that I don't know. So for example, oriental music I couldn't teach. And if we come to a point where I am not helpful anymore, I will say so. What I do like is learning with students, it is often the case that your students teach you new ways of thinking about music and I find that super exciting! I was lucky to travel a bit of the world playing music with different projects and musicians that I admire, I always did this playing mainly Jazz music. I have played in bars and clubs and theaters in New York, Boston, Buenos Aires, and in different cities around Switzerland, Germany, France, Holland. I was also part of several orchestras (Jazz, Tango and Rock) in Argentina and in the US. I teach beginner - intermediate - advanced levels of different topics: - how to improve technique (right hand and left hand) - how to improvise (elements of improvisation, vocabulary, phrasing, etc.) - how to visualize the fretboard - how to learn songs by ear, and how to read music (or tab) - how harmony and music theory works - specific genres such as, Jazz, Gypsy Jazz, Bossa Nova, Tango, Rock, and Fingerstyle. The lessons can be also in German (basic, so you might need a bit of patience with me!) or Spanish (that's my mother tongue) or English. They can be at my place (Wedding), all corona safe, or online via Zoom/Skype. Shoot me a message if you are interested! All the best, Francisco

Andrea
Classical Guitar Lessons from Conservatorium-Trained Teacher
Hi, I’m Andrea! I’m a professional classical guitar performer and educator from Sydney, Australia. I have been developing my music teaching business for over 9 years, through which I teach a wide range of styles, levels, and ages. Lessons are specifically tailored to meet the needs of each student, whether the focus is on classical guitar performance, chords, pop/rock, or Spanish-style fingerpicking. Music theory, composition, songwriting, improvisation, sight-reading, and preparation for high school exams or University auditions are all options that can be incorporated into lessons. I have plenty of experience with young children and teenagers as well as adults, from complete beginners to advanced players. My teaching philosophy is holistic in that I strive to help my students become well-rounded musicians with a range of listening, reading, improvisation, and analytical skills, while of course carefully choosing repertoire that will cater to the student’s taste as well as their abilities. Pop/rock guitar and jazz/blues improvisation are also options as well as classical training.

Music lessons with Madara will be fitting to those young people who are willing to either try themselves in the field of music or have decided to learn music. With Madara you will learn music in practice and in theory. Usually the lesson would integrate such components as piano playing, singing, tasks for music theory and composing (or improvising). "Composing has become an important and also very fun activity in my music lessons. Children very often show up their will and ability to create their own music which is not only a great way to develop creativity but is also very effective way to learn music theory in practice. I teach how to practice, how to sit, how to hold hands/bow, how to think as a musician and how to make playing cello and music theory easier.
