Aurel - Amsterdam$39
Trusted teacher: Hello! My name is Aurel and I am a French Amsterdam-based drummer. Although currently specialized in Jazz music, I have studied various esthetics, and Pop and Rock music, in particular, are part of my background (I played in several pop-rock bands). Therefore I am able to teach a broad panel of music styles. I also have many drum methods and charts at my disposal, and have experience in teaching children from the age of 6, as well as teenagers and adults. Lessons and teaching method: I always adapt to the student's tastes and learning profiles. This is why, during the first lesson, and on a regular basis afterwards, I always take time to discuss with my students (or their parents if they are very young) to figure out together the path they want or need to follow. I will use charts and methods for those who need visual support to assimilate the skills or teach by ear and by demonstrating to the ones who feel more comfortable this way. I also play electric guitar and can jam with my students, which is a great tool for developing band playing skills or simply to have a good time. For those eager to make significant progress, I offer consistent and serious monitoring, with practice recommendations. I can for instance prepare a student for an audition or an entrance exam in a conservatory. If you are willing to improve your understanding of rhythm in general, you can also benefit from my knowledge of Indian Karnatic rhythm concepts, one of the most complete traditional approaches to rhythm. Students who simply want to learn at their pace, to have fun and unwind, are definitely welcome too! About me: In addition to my jazz drums bachelor and master degrees from the conservatory of Amsterdam (CvA), which included a thorough pedagogical training and a specialization in Indian Karnatic techniques, I benefit from 4 years of experience as an employed drum teacher in two French associative music schools (Ecole de musique de Nangis and Conservatoire des Deux Rives, Moret-sur-Loing). I am also an active musician, both on the Dutch and the French scene. My trio mainly tours in France and has played at venues such as the Sunside (Paris), or participated in competitions like the Keep An Eye International Jazz Award. I am also the co-leader of the sextet Chai Masters, finalist of several European competitions (Leiden Jazz Award, Golden Jazz Trophy in Lille, France, 7 Virtual Jazz Contest). Recently, the band was part of Keep An Eye The Records's finalists (March 2022). Looking forward to meeting you and passing on my know-how to you!

Je donne cours en français - Description disponible en Français Do lezione in Italiano - Descrizione disponibile in Italiano ......................................................................................................................................................... The course method, inspired by the Agostini school (French method used in French and Belgian academies and conservatories) is divided between technique and drums. At the rate of one session each we will focus once on technique and movements outside the drums (on pads) and the other time on the drums and the application of technique and movements. -> The technique lessons and the movements will be those of the so-called 'Moeller technique' that I learned through his direct lineage of student. -> The drum lessons are greatly inspired by the pedagogy of the M.A.I. (Music Academy International - Nancy (fr)) and in particular that of Richard-Paul Morellini, renowned instructor. The courses are complete, in-depth but above all specifically thought of to be progressive. They are suitable for children from 7 years old as well as adults of all ages. => Particular attention is paid to the movements and their correct application, to the total independence of the limbs and finally to an understanding of the rhythm and its theory. My main goal is to give the student complete control behind the drums and skills to be able to self-learn any piece in any musical style. 1 hour of weekly lessons are never enough, they should only be used to fuel the passion that will make you play at home more and more. On demand or for advancs students: - I am very passionate about the study of South American rhythms. Due to their complexity, apart from the samba and Baïon ostinatos, they are not included in the program before the advanced level. They can be at the request of the student. - I am also specialized in metal (musical style) and double pedal. The latter is not included in the program unless requested by the student. The double pedal courses are based on the methodology of Virgil Donati. Technique: * Moeller technique (the 'whipping motion' - the Free stroke -Full/Half/Low stroke - accepting the rebound - its application etc.) * Snare rudiments and their applications through reading systems * Readings of scores and exercises for the snare drum * Speed drills * Military marches * Control of the different subdivisions (quarter notes - eighth notes - triplets - sixteenth notes - quintuplets - sextuplets - triple eighth notes - nonolets etc.) * Displacement of accents and polyrhythms * On request, double pedal technique (application of the Moeller to the double pedal as well as everything listed above but with the feet) Drums: * Bass drum reading and independance * Snare drum reading and independance * Applications of ghost notes * The 16 sixteenth-notes ostinatos * Jazz readings and independence * Binary and ternary readings * Coordination and movements of both feet * Dynamics on the instrument * Creation of fills and original drum grooves * On request, application of the double pedal * On request or for advanced students, readings and independence of South American rhythms (study and independence of the clave/Cascara/Mozambique etc.)

Trusted teacher: Hello, I offer drums lessons in a warm place or at your home. Come and discover the battery differently. My mission is to help you develop your own identity on the instrument. I offer you a fun approach that focuses on the pleasure of playing. Having followed training and courses throughout my life (conservatory, schools ...), I am passionate and dedicated to sharing all of my experience with you. I practice in many music groups and other structures (schools, associations ...). With more than 20 years of experience in drums and more than 10 years in percussion, I teach many musical genres (jazz through Latin music, pop, hip hop, rock, hard, punk, metal ..) , the double pedal, notions of music theory, rhythmic reading. Possibility of taking percussion lessons (darbuka, bongos, African djembe, congas, jaw harp, dhol). The programs are directly inspired by internationally recognized methods, thus being able to adapt to the needs, levels and requirements of each individual. I travel but I also receive in a room with equipment available (any age and level of practice are allowed, from initialization to professionals). A different approach to music lessons: My teaching is resolutely modern. Classes are a moment of musical and human sharing where error is used as a positive experience to move forward. We work by oral transmission to complete the scores. We use onomatopoeia to quickly develop musical and felt play, rather than just reading and playing. So ... Tempted? No excuse, I give you couses from Monday to Sunday from 8 am to 11 pm. FROM child (from 5 years old) to senior, and from beginner to professional. Registration possible all year round. Trusted teacher: My life is all about music and creativity. I'm a proudly self-taught multi-instrumentalist and an eternal student. EARLY CAREER I worked in London as a session musician and touring drummer and pianist for more than 10 years with Shaw Thing Artist Management. I played with talent including Joy Crookes at much-loved places such as The Roundhouse, Abbey Road and The Edinburgh Festival. I also worked as a private tutor during this time, helping 50+ children and adults learn drums, piano and bass - many of whom got all the way to Grade 8. TODAY In 2022 I moved to Brighton for a new musical chapter. I now work as a composer/sound designer and creative director for award-winning artistic projects and brands including premium travel company Kuoni. I’m my happiest when I’m creating and making things happen, co-ordinating talented teams to get the job done. I also offer a transcription service, delivering detailed scores which I create by ear. You can check out examples of my transcriptions on my YouTube channel. Finally, I am an examiner for Rock School & Yamaha, assessing students across a range of popular instruments, and continue to teach one-to-one in-person and online. PROJECTS & AWARDS I am the producer of a short film titled When We Fell, featuring an original soundtrack released under my artist name Spoon. In 2021-22 it was presented at festivals worldwide, won three awards and was nominated for the Audience Award by the prestigious British Animation Awards. I have also released a video game that music-lovers will enjoy called Keep The Music Alive, a retro 2D platform game that follows the creative journey of a composer - and features beautiful Contemporary Jazz/Classical tracks. QUALIFICATIONS I have a BMus in Music Performance & Production from the London Centre of Contemporary Music (LCCM) and am currently studying an MSc in Music and Sound for Film and Games at the University of Hertfordshire. Tutoring Experience The benefits of learning an instrument are huge. It boosts your memory, abstract reasoning skills, creativity, confidence, patience and relieves stress. Most importantly it is fun. I teach the drum kit, piano, theory and composition. I love sharing my passion with my students, supporting and empowering them to become the best they can be. I’m big on inspiring my students to continue progressing between lessons, independently, focussing on technical ability, stylistic understanding and the development of their own musical voice. If you choose to take graded examinations, I have a strong track record of getting students high marks. I’m an examiner myself, so I know exactly how to prepare you. Grades 6-8 practical / theory give you UCAS points equivalent to A levels, and grades 5-6 are regarded as equivalent to GCSE level. It’s a great way to stand out when applying to schools and universities. I teach children and adults 1-to-1 from my home in Brighton, at students’ homes and online. Students coming to me benefit from access to industry standard equipment and software - invaluable experience for any aspiring, modern musician. I hold an Advanced DBS Certificate and have many testimonials and references (upon request). Previous tutoring experience: Al Pascal Music - North London’s leading contemporary music school. Diverse Voices Entertainment C.I.C - Creator / leader of Rhythm & Beats Workshop held at Edinburgh Primary School. Keir Hardy Primary school - Co-creator / facilitator of Composition Workshop. All Talents Music School. Phoneix Tutors. Fox Music School (volunteer). Tutoring Approach I love to learn and find ways to improve myself on a daily basis. I aim to instil this passion for self development in all of my students as I believe self education, the desire and motivation to improve yourself as the most useful tool to learning any skill.

Drum lessons with qualified and experienced teacher - all styles, all levels (Amsterdam)
Aurel
Aurel is great. He was trying to put himself in my shoes and think of why something was not working. While he was giving his feedback, he was sharing it in a very clear and supportive way. He also discussed with me what my goals are, he asked for samples of music and adjusted the class accordingly. He also very kindly offered me his old sticks and taught longer that he should’ve. Oh and he’s a fantastic drummer with very successful projects. I’m very happy to be taking classes from him.

Hanshi
I enjoyed the lesson very much and I improved a lot after all of the helpful tips and rudiments. Helped me enjoy and appreciate the drums so much more now that I can play for myself. Even after just the first lesson I felt that I was much better and I could play with music. Would truly recommend.
