You have reached the end of your education and you are going to conclude it with a research report or thesis. You've worked on your topic for a while, collected most of the data, and you already know quite a bit about it, but now everything has to come into a well-written and logically structured story. That can be tricky, but I can help you with that! During my career at the universities of Utrecht and Groningen I supervised many students in subjects such as ecology and environmental sciences. I also really enjoy interdisciplinary thinking and working, for example by connecting scientific topics with business administration and/or policy questions, resulting in an advisory report for a company or government.
After my retirement from university in 2019, I also supervised students from other disciplines such as history and geography. Perhaps most importantly, I really enjoy using my broad experience to help motivated students.

About Me

During my student time, I did a lot of different things. To pay for my studies I had many different jobs, varying from fruit picker to international truck driver. But I also liked very much the ecological research and fieldwork in Greece, Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands. After my Ph.D. in Utrecht (1987), I was employed by the University of Groningen to set up at the Université de Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) an ecological laboratory and central workshop, to develop curricula in ecology and environmental sciences, and to establish an inter-faculty institute for environmental studies. After that, I was based in Groningen but traveled many times to different African countries to lecture, supervise students and help set up projects. I also was closely involved in the interdisciplinary course Science, Business, and Policy for 5th-year Master students of the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Groningen University. I especially like to help and supervise Master's and Ph.D. students in writing their thesis and continued doing that after I retired from the university in 2019.

Supervisor and coordinator of cooperation projects with African universities in Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Kenya, Mali, Nigeria, and Mozambique, including the EU-funded EDULINK projects ESPRIT (Environmental Sustainability: Priority Education and Research in the Tropics), FSBA (Food Security and Biotechnology in Africa) and the Erasmus+ Key Action 1 Mobility Program with Benin and Burkina Faso.
