As a beginner, we envelope the simple factors that go into making a beautiful piece, and find ways to feel confident within our selves and our playing skills. Starting from scratch and building the foundation of your playing is crucial during this era of learning, and with constant practice, time, and patience, we can overcome any obstacle in music together. Students in intermediate/advanced classes will have a heavier workload and more commitment to their lessons as well as tasks provided afterwards such as to-do lists and practice logs. These students are to be prepared 100% of the time with preparing their repertoire prior to the lesson, and maintaining their practice log accordingly.

Chris is a New York City-based multi-instrumentalist. A passionate composer and improviser, he has performed as a leader and sideman throughout New York, Boston, Colorado and abroad over the past 15 years. Chris attended the Manhattan School of Music (MM ‘25) and the New England Conservatory of Music (BM ‘23). He has taught privately and within public schools over the past eight years, and loves to help students cultivate their passion for music and instrumental performance. Students can choose to focus entirely on their instrument (saxophone, clarinet, and flute), or can specifically study improvisation, jazz composition, music theory, and ear training. While primarily a jazz musician, Chris is trained in a wide variety of musics including classical, which he diligently studied on the clarinet; popular music and R&B; and world musics, including Brazilian (Choro/Bossa/Samba), Latin-American (Bomba/Timba/Rumba), and West-African styles (Agbekor/Gahu). Some of Chris's many accomplishments include being recognized as a YoungArts Jazz Performance winner for four years in a row; performing abroad in Europe with the inaugural NYO Jazz Band, receiving a Community Performances and Partnerships Ensemble Fellowship at New England Conservatory, and also receiving the George Whitefield Chadwick Medal of musical and academic performance. Chris emphasizes a teaching approach that prioritizes connecting with the student and engaging them in what they’re specifically interested in, while also covering the fundamentals essential to developing ones skills on their instrument or in their field of study. He offers lessons in person, primarily at students's personal residences, and also online via Zoom, Google Meet, or FaceTime (although in person is highly recommended).

Figure drawing isn't easy; it requires precision and practice. You must learn the basics of figure drawing to grow your skills. That is why having a strong understanding and practice of your basics is incredibly difficult and important. The basics include the correct method of drawing lines and circles, tips on understanding the anatomically correct proportions of the human body, and the practice of drawing what you see. This is the most challenging aspect of figure drawing, and it requires practice to simply put what you see on paper. It might seem tedious and somewhat useless, but from my experience, it was the foundation I wish someone had taught me. These skills aren't only used for figure drawing, but also for your other drawing endeavors. The class session will entail a step-by-step program based on your performance and progress when accomplishing each skill. I will guide you through a hands-on process to master each lesson. This is meant to curate an environment where you feel accomplished and for you to make mistakes and learn from them.

I love teaching Math and to be able to help students meet their career and personal goals. When I start a topic, I am careful to not rush through it. I am prepared to devote, if needed, a good deal of time in clarifying the basics and make my students fundamentally strong in the topic. Math learning is often cumulative: learning any new topic would presume that you already understand certain concepts of math. If you don't already know these concepts, math becomes a hard subject. If you do, and possess an affinity for logical and analytical thinking, which - and here is the good news - most of us naturally have, then you may find yourself falling in love with Math. If your fundamentals are strong, you will find that doing math is fun. My students often start slow, but end up completing the marathon: be it developing a life-long affinity for Math, or obtaining good grades in class, or clearing competitive exams like SAT, or an exam as competitive as the JEE Mains of India.
