Vivian - Leiden46€
Trusted teacher: Hi! My name is Vivian, 25 years old, and I graduated from the master's degree at the conservatory in The Hague. Teaching violin is my passion and I have been doing this for more than 8 years. Everyone, every level, every background and every age is welcome. I have students between 6 and 80 years old, from beginners to advanced and people who know a lot about music or people who are trying it for the first time. I play musical games, focus on musical and technical development, practice ensemble playing and teach the students who are ready some music theory. I like to look together with the student at fun goals or music that the student wants to play. All input and ideas are welcome! It is important to me to create an individual lesson plan together with the student that matches what a student wants to learn and how. I think it is important that we keep an eye on progress and that a student therefore practices at home. This way the lesson is most useful, because then I can give you good tips that will really help you improve! During the lesson I focus on the musical message, but also on the technical 'tools' you need to play the violin well. Would you like to discover music with me and learn how to play the violin better? The violin lessons take place at my home in Leiden. We agree on the length of the lesson together. Beginning students usually start with half an hour of lessons and if the teacher or student notices that this is too short for the current development, the lesson time will be extended to 45 minutes, 60 minutes or more in consultation. Advanced students are also welcome. Online class is also possible, but this is just a little less of quality than a live class. I recommend having lessons every week, then you will get better on your instrument the fastest. But if you want it different, that's fine too. If you want, you can also have lessons with several people at the same time. The rate will then remain the same. The disadvantage for you is that I have less individual attention for you and that you may not progress as fast as a result. If you cancel the class within 24 hours, I still have to charge the cost of your class for reserving the time for you. I think it would be great fun to work together on the violin, discover beautiful music and have fun with it!

I am a professional violin and viola teacher based in Zurich, teaching in person at students' location or online, in English, German or Russian. (Reviews below) As well as instrumental teaching and ensemble coaching of at all levels over the last 12 years, I’ve led numerous professional workshops, including ‘Music First’ and ‘Music Masters’ workshops in London and was an assistant on the Primary Arpeggione viola course and at the Springgrove music competition. As a member of the European String Teachers’ Association, I participated in their conferences across Europe. I have prepared students for music exams at all levels, working with them on music theory, aural and sight reading skills, and regularly accompany students on the piano. As a performing musician, I perform internationally as a soloist and chamber musician, recently including at the Victoria Hall in Geneva, Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg and Philharmonie in Berlin. I’m a Tillett Trust and Villa Musica artist, winner of the Małopolska competition, Barbirolli Prize at the Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition and Len Lickorish Memorial Prize at the Royal Overseas League International Strings Competition. I hold a masters degree with first class honours from the class of Tabea Zimmermann at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin, and Bachelors with the same distinction from the Royal Academy of Music in London. * Reviews * Stephanie W. Toby is an outstanding instructor and works with children very naturally. My 11 year old son has been taking lessons with Toby for over two months and is eager for each lesson. Toby is extremely talented, but beyond that, he engages my son deeply with the music itself, fundamental techniques, music theory, and even the interpretation of the music. Toby is kind, encouraging, and works with students at a level that is appropriate. He has allowed my son to chose music that if fun and interesting to practice, even though the pieces are challenging. In fact, I often sit in to listen to the lessons, as they are so good. My son has had a couple of lessons with Toby while company has been over, and everyone has commented on how amazing Toby is as an instructor. I can not recommend Toby enough and hope to continue lessons with him for a long time. Pamela B. Toby is really a great teacher who teaches the pieces well and brings out more of the feeling in the playing. We particularly liked that. Good technique is one thing, but feeling the music is such an important element in music and learning a piece of music. He also teaches theory very well! Tatyana M. Toby is a fantastic teacher. He is very reliable as he is consistently organised and punctual. I constantly see progress in my child’s music skills because every lesson Toby delivers is effective and well-structured. I highly recommend him to all who wish to learn or improve on their music skills. Shaun W. Knowledgeable and frank, Toby was able to provide me with crucial information quickly and efficiently. Hanna S. Toby can explain things very well and understandably, is patient and friendly and easily adapts to the student's level. Jacques R. Toby is an excellent tutor with top teaching skills..he teaches music theory in a way my 12 year old son understands the lesson easily; Toby is very attentive

Ester
My private violin lesson with Ester was absolutely perfect. I had a privilege to hear Ester play her violin and she is so good- it is crazy to think I was able to learn from her. She is also such a good teacher. Full of knowlege and patience- which is, in my opinion, a rare combination. I had no prior musical education and this was my first real music lesson. Ester managed to teach me basic note reading, correct violin holding and even playing my first tunes. Her explainations are very clear and easy to understand. And her approach is very friendly. She is also a very nice person and easy to talk to. I wish we lived in the same city so I could keep studying playing violin with Ester- that's how good she is. Lidia

Violin and music theory lessons for people of all ages and levels in Den Haag (The Hague)
Yulia
I like Yulia, my 8 yrs old daughter likes Yulia and here is why: she's the best violin tutor my daughter has had! My daughter is very active and we have had two tutors before and she got on well with the previous tutors on a "fun" level, yet she hardly made time to play violin and each tutoring session became a play date and practicing on violin was a struggle. With Yulia, my daughter actually plays violin now and she's starting to enjoy classical music as well. I find Yulia naturally engaging and for my daughter learning music with Yulia becomes an automatic flow, so she hardly notices that she's had a "long" violin lesson. Now we look forward to seeing Yulia every week!
