I'm Agustin, a Native English and Spanish-speaker that lived in the United States for 17 years.
In my life I have worked as a English-Spanish translator for health facilities in New York City and Washington DC for patients and medical staff members wishing to communicate health-related matter.

I have also had the privilege of working as an English Teacher in Santiago, Chile, teaching and developing the language skills of business empresarios, CEOs, Lawyers, and entrepreneurs who seek to better their language skills in order to benefit their business and social circumstances of work.

I work with updated, interactive and person-centered methods of reaching you as a learner so that language is not an experience of a series of tasks and translations, but rather most effective and personalized to communicate your needs, and engage in experiences that are important to you as a learner.

Classes are given at your home, cafe, my home (Utrecht) or most suitable and growth-promoting space for you as a learner.
If preferred I am also equipped with the necessary sound equipment to provide English courses online through Zoom or other video conferencing software of your choice.

Classes are given 1x per week for 2 hours or 2x per week at 1 hour duration.

Présentation
Agustin is a Percussionist, Educator and Music Therapist from Chile & USA currently living in the Netherlands. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Music Performance, Music Therapy and Psychology from State University of New York, Fredonia. He is also holds Masters of Music Degree from the Hogeschool Voor de Kunsten Utrecht, Conservatorium where he studied with renown dutch jazz drummer Joost Kesselaar.

As a current resident of the Netherlands, Agustin maintains a busy schedule with his experimental music collective, and work as a freelance performer and educator. While Agustin has had many roles in the music industry, his passion lies in education; As an engaging drum set and percussion instructor, he provides music lessons rooted in humanistic philosophy which allows him to cater each lesson in an individualized manner and develop richer and more meaningful relationships with each student.

Agustin has studied under renown names including Dr. Kay Stonefelt(Broadway Percussionist), Aubrey Adams( Principal Percussionist of USAF Band), Eric Shin( Principal Percussionist of National Symphony Orchestra), and Shawn Pelton( Drum set player for Saturday Night Live). Agustin is currently a freelance percussionist, educator, and music therapist in the Netherlands.

As a drums and classical percussion educator I have more than 10 years of experience. Graduated with honors from State University Of New York, Fredonia, Mason School of Music in 2013 and earned my Masters of Music In Drums at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht, Utrechts Conservatorium. I have had the privilege of studying with world renown percussionists and drum set players including Dr. Kay Stonefelt, Shawn Pelton, Eric Shin, and Joost Kesselaar.

As an engaging drum set and percussion instructor, I provide music lessons rooted in humanistic philosophy which allows me to cater each lesson in an individualized manner and develop richer and more meaningful relationships with each student.

Lessons are provided in a rented rehearsal and practice room space, Students can expect to acquire the necessary technique, musicality and abilities to engage in any musical setting such as rock and pop bands, jazz combos, classical ensembles, experimental or avant-guard music making, marching band music and drumline instruction.

So far, I have been carrying out 3 different types of lessons:

(a) just conversation:
Here, the student prepares 5-6 different topics for the lesson, and prepares a document with the topics and short paragraph about each topic. This way, the student can start looking at the vocabulary for the topic before the lesson. Usually, the student sends this document by email 24 hours before the planned lesson. When we start the lesson, the first few minutes are just a few questions, small talk about the last few days and what is going on at the moment. Then, we move to the topics. Each topic takes approximately 10 minutes (more or less, depending on the content). For each topic, the student first introduces the topic and what they know about it so far, then we discuss the issue, I ask some content questions or questions about your views on this subject, etc. These discussions are very helpful for conversation, sentence fluency, and vocabulary development.
When the student makes a mistake in grammar, sentence, or word choice, I correct them and help them understand their mistakes. Usually, each student has a little notebook where they note down their mistakes or new words and phrases that they have learnt. During the following lesson, I may ask a few questions about the topics from the previous lesson, in order to refresh the student's memory regarding their previous mistakes and new vocabulary.

(b) conversation and description:
This is the same as the conversation type (a) above, but there are only 3 topics and it lasts approximately 35-40 minutes. The second half of the lesson is prepared by me. I send a document with 3-5 pictures. The student describes what they see, using position vocabulary, descriptive words, and tried to interpret what is going on in the picture. This is also very good for language development and verbal fluency. After the student finished describing as well as they can, I will describe in a little bit more depth, to make sure that all new words and phrases are mentioned. During following lesson, the first 10 minutes of the second part of the lesson (for picture description) are for a short reviewing of last lesson's pictures, refreshing memory and making sure all words are understood and well-used.

(c) conversation and writing:
This is the same as the conversation type (a) above, but the last 15 minutes are focused on writing skills. Usually, we look at different writing styles such as formal versus casual, a typical formal email, a typical friendly email, how to ask for help, etc.

Of course, lesson types can changes as often as you want! Some of my students had the first lessons in style (c), and then we switched to one in style (a) and one in style (b).

I am also very flexible in terms of what you want to do and what you prefer as a student!
