Leer Engels spreken zoals de Engelsen dat doen. Als Nederlander ben je vaak snel herkenbaar door je tongval en foutief gebruik van woorden, uitdrukkingen, etc. Door 'native English' te spreken kun je vaak sneller iets gedaan krijgen, wordt je sneller geaccepteerd en in de USA heb je vaak een streepje voor als je het 'Queen's English' spreekt.

Ik woon al weer 25 jaar in het V.K. en heb in de eerste jaren ervaren hoe moeilijk het is om echt tot de Engelsen door te dringen als je de taal niet op hun niveau spreekt. Je blijft een 'buitenlander' en dus een buitenstaander.

Je denkt als Nederlander al snel dat je goed Engels spreekt. Het Engels dat in Nederland onderwezen wordt is verouderd en wordt vaak onderwezen door universitair opgeleiden die nooit langer dan een paar maanden in een Engelstalige omgeving hebben doorgebracht, waardoor ze de echte spreektaal nooit hebben opgepikt. Je leert een taal niet echt uit een boekje, je moet het ervaren of leren van iemand die de finesses kent.

Ik ben gespecialiseerd in het onderwijzen van Nederlands, van beginners tot gevorderden. Ik heb een zakelijke achtergrond, dus ik kan iedereen voorbereiden op een zakelijke omgeving.

Ik geef meestal les via internet, maar ik ga graag naar iemands kantoor, zolang het maar binnen een redelijke reisafstand is. Ik verwacht dat mijn reiskosten worden vergoed.

My name is Lucy and I live in West Sussex. I am fascinated by languages and communication and I have gained a wealth of experience in teaching and learning French, Spanish and English.

In 2013 I achieved my Level 5 Trinity College London Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). I have have 8 years of classroom and private tutoring experience. My expertise is grammar: I am very skilled in this area having spent a lot of time studying. I have also gained plenty of experience in helping students with their speaking and listening skills. I am qualified to teach adults and teenagers, and have also gained experience in providing foreign primary school children with an introduction to the English language.

In 2017 I graduated with a 2:1 in French and Hispanic studies. In my third year at University I studied and worked abroad in Paris and Madrid. In Paris I was the English teacher of a small private school and I was in charge of designing the curriculum, teaching all the lessons, and creating an end of term assessment. In Madrid I was self employed and privately tutored several students with lessons tailored to their requirements. For example, one student wanted to improve conversation skills for her job as she was required to communicate with clients in the UK, so we focused on business conversation skills in English.

In June 2020 I will qualify as a Secondary Teacher of French and Spanish, teaching up to A level (Key Stage 5). I am currently on a SCITT PGCE course (School Centred Initial Teacher Training) which means I have been in the classroom since September gaining plenty of experience teaching the languages. Before beginning my ITT (Initial Teacher Training) year, I completed a 6 month Subject Knowledge Enhancer which involved studying the different modules of the GCSE and A level syllabuses and preparing a presentation on teaching each module to a class. This course has helped me understand exactly what is expected of the students during Key Stages 4 and 5 and I received excellent feedback on my achievements.
