Film Scoring - Learn to create music for movies and videogames

From 42.6 $ /h

Have you always wanted to write music for movies, ads or videogames, but didn’t know where or how to start? This is your place.

We are Alonso and Vincent, two composers with different formation but that are actively working in the field of Film Scoring.
Our classes are developed for students of different ages.

Let us explain! If you are 15 years old or just 40 but want to immerse into the music world, we can help, whether you have previous experience or not in the field.

What will you learn with our lessons:
- Beginner: we’ll guide you through your first steps in your digital audio workstation. With pre-existing sample packs, you’ll discover how to build music with sound blocks, and become your very own producer/beatmaker!

-Intermediate: we’ll show you how to deal with MIDI programming. You will write the notes, yourself, of your own digital symphony, with free virtual instruments from state-of-the-art production facilities, always following the style you want to follow. The music is yours!

-Advanced: we’ll bring you to Hollywood’s antechamber: our most advanced tips about writing music, mixing, mastering, how to write your own readable sheet music... You’ll be the next Hans Zimmer in no time.
Extra information
Beginners would need a laptop/desktop or an iPad with at least an external headphones port (iPad users would need the GarageBand app installed!)

For intermediate and advanced levels, if you have already some bases of music production, let us know which is your DAW of choice, what external audio interface you have, which MIDI controller you have – if you have one. We’ll definitely follow your vibe and your possibilities.

We’ll do our best to provide you free virtual instruments: music production can be very expensive, but knowledge should still be for free! Furthermore, we’ll walk you through the different options available, depending on your style: samples from Vienna Symphonic Library, Spitfire Audio, Native Instruments... lots of choice!

We’ll also adapt to your Digital Audio Workstation: GarageBand, Reaper, FL Studio, Ableton Live, NotePerformer, ProTools... Alonso is a Logic expert and Vincent is a Cubase/Nuendo wizard.

About Me
Pianoma is a new way of learning piano: fun, entertaining and full of brightness and good energy. We are a team of professionals who believe that musical education should have quality without losing what is important: the fact that we learn because we love what we are doing.

Our online classes are designed specially to you. We are an international team formed by Gema, Vincent, Maria, Elene, Abraham, Marina, Alonso and Ana, and our purpose is to be able to adapt our method to the diverse profiles that we find when teaching to different ages and musical tastes. You can love pop or rock, or even heavy metal music, and there is definitely nothing wrong with it!

Each one of our members are mostly formed in European conservatories (Royal Conservatory of Brussels, ESMUC in Barcelona, Schola Cantorum in Paris, among others) and have more than 10 years experience teaching the piano and performing internationally as well. Most of us have won several international competitions, but we believe that music is not only that, but an open path of self discovery to reconnect with yourself and take time to enjoy something that you love doing, no matter the age.

We love as well to prepare students for official examinations and competitions. This is our 4th year as an international online school and 90% of our students have gotten top results in the ABRSM examinations when being prepared fully online. This is only to tell you that we really believe that online education is not only possible but successful.

If you arrived to read all this text, that means that you enjoyed this little story as much as we enjoyed writing it. Thank you so much ! We would love to meet you.

All the best,

The Pianoma Team

PS: do not hesitate to write to us if you want to know more about us, we are happy to know more about you as well :)

This is the time to finally learn some music playing, and we are here to help you reach your goals, no matter how big they are!
Pianoma is an online school where you can learn piano at home and with schedule flexibility. Our school works with teachers that speak 7 different languages.

Our main purpose is to make your music as valuable in your life as it is in ours. No matter the age, we adapt to you and to your musical tastes. We teach from 4 years old kids to our eldest student who is currently becoming 74 this year.

-> About our classes and planning

Our classes will focus on you and your musical expertise, if you have previous experience playing piano. If you are completely taking it from zero, we are also here to help.

We will also help you choose a perfect teacher for you based on your profile and what you tell us. He or She will always be teaching you, so no worries, there won't be changes all the time.

On our first class we will show you a bit how we work and our virtual platform so you can access to a private profile to check your weekly notes from your teacher, videos and other content that shall be relevant to you. Of course, there will also be some piano played involved ;)

The rest of the lessons will be planned based on your time. We will focus on what you are able to do with the time you have got. No need to stress or to rush, we want you to progress at your own pace.

Classes can be held on a weekly basis, but we also accept free scheduling classes by the student's availability. Do not hesitate to write us if you need more information!

-> Our courses

These are the courses that we are currently offering are focused on:

- Piano for Children: a fun method for beginners to learn and to experience music. Pedagogically based on Montessori, learning by collaboration and self motivation.

- Piano: no matter the style or the level

- Improvisation and Composition: for curious and creative minds

-Preparation to official exams such as Trinity and ABRSM: these exams take place in official examination centers in several parts of the world, but are also held online. They are highly recognized throughout the globe.

- Preparation to musical competitions

-> Online classes: how and why?

Our classes take place by several platforms as Google Meet or Skype, but if you feel more comfortable with others we are also open to suggestions. Our Professional Studios are set with 2 video cameras, so you can see us perfectly and also hear us perfectly with a studio microphone. Do not worry about your settings, as long as you have a stable connection this is all what we need.

Why online classes? We think online classes are a valid asset for the future. Students learn comfortably from their homes and the education that they receive is proved to have the same validity as in person lessons, if performed with the right means and the right method, obviously! This is what we have been researching and testing for the past 5 years. So far, we have reached a 90% of students that actually got top results at ABRSM examinations by being prepared exclusively online by us.

-> What you need for class?

- A phone, tablet or computer with internet connection
- A keyboard.

If you do not have a keyboard yet and need assistance, feel free to let us a message, and we will try to help you find something that adapts to your budget.

-> Who are we?

We are a positive and energetic team of teachers formed mostly in different conservatories in Europe (Belgium, Georgia, Italy, France and Spain). We have more than 10 years of experience in music teaching, and it is not our only passion: film scoring, composing and playing concerts take a big part of our daily lives too. < Learning Piano is not merely about playing the piano >

Before starting to learn the piano, it’s essential to recognize that :

'' What we are actually learning is "Music", but not only "Piano". ''

The goal of learning any instrument is to acquire the language of music, enabling us to express ourselves and enjoy music with others. Playing the piano is for creating beautiful sounds, not really for developing finger speed or strength. That’s the function of gym.

< Music is like cooking >

When we cook, to make roast beef tender, of course, it’s nice to have a tender heart, but without knowing how to control the temperature, the roast beef won’t become tender merely by our tender heart.

By only adding salt, the dish won’t be sweet. Similarly, simply playing or writing a C major triad chord won’t convey a sorrowful feeling.

To create the feeling we want, no matter how much sentiment we have in our hearts, to convey it via music, it needs to be translated into the language which the piano can understand, which means, how we press and lift the keys and pedals. Similarly, when we compose, it needs to be transferred into chords, and notes we write.

< Difference between an audience and a musician >

There is a common belief that a musician can make music with sentiment or feeling. While it’s partially true, the most essential thing is knowing ‘’How’’ to create the sound that conveys the feeling we want, rather than merely knowing ‘’What’' feeling we want to convey.

The understanding of the mechanism behind music is essential, as cooking, and that is the difference between an audience and a musician. As an audience, one can simply feel the music. Like a chief who knows how to create a specific flavor to convey, a musician knows how to create the sound which can convey the feeling we want. While knowing which feeling we want is great, it’s merely the first step. Your emotions are not too different from Chopin, Beethoven, Adele or Taylor Swift, otherwise, they can’t resonate with you. But they know how to create the sound that conveys the feeling they want to their audience.

< Course Content >

I consider my course to be a form of "Music Consultation" because it contains a wide range of subjects that are essential to a professional musician. While we focus on piano playing, there are also music theory, music history, instrument construction, ergonomics for performers, analysis of composer styles, composition, arrangement, recording, MIDI, computer music, the physics of sound, and more.
In avoid of confusion, let’s still call my course as "Piano Course”.

< Duration >

For each course, I will reserve at least 70 minutes in my schedule for you, including 60 minutes of class time and an additional 10 minutes for discussion and any questions you may have. This will ensure that your courses are not rushed by the next student. This ensures that there is enough time for you to solve your piano and music problems.

< Recording >

I highly encourage my students to record their progress. This can provide an objective standard for comparison and help you analyze your playing precisely. In my nine years of experience teaching music, I've found many students, including those advanced, already play certain sections very well, while other sections may not be not well enough. But they still try to improving those fine sections, while not aware of those weak sections.
Without an objective reference, it’s hard to distribute our effort precisely. This can lead to not only unstable performance, but also practicing without a precise goal can easily reduce enthusiasm. Recording your results and comparing them with those recordings you like on YouTube or Spotify can be an effective way to analyze your playing and set precise goals.

If you have a digital piano, I can help you produce a video of your performance for each session. This can be a tangible record of your efforts and you can share it with your friends and family via YouTube or other platforms.

This class introduces the core concepts of film scoring and how music shapes story, emotion, and narrative in film and television. Students will learn how to support and move images through music, exploring timing, mood, theme, and structure. Lessons are tailored to each student’s interests and level, from complete beginners to advanced composers, and can focus on electronic, orchestral, or hybrid approaches.

The course also includes analysis and deconstruction of existing film scores to understand compositional techniques and storytelling strategies. Students will learn how to set up and optimize their digital audio workstation for film scoring, define personal creative goals, and work with industry-standard orchestral sample libraries and synthesizers such as Spitfire Audio, Orchestral Tools, and Cinematic Studio Series. Films with sound design and no music can be provided for hands-on scoring exercises, enabling practical experience working directly to picture.

Do you want to produce your tracks without getting lost in the technical details? I'll teach you Cubase and DAW software the way I learned it myself: without music theory, but with method and creativity.

The goal is not to apply formulas, but to develop a working method adapted to each project. This may involve analyzing a piece in progress, resolving technical or creative blocks, optimizing sound, or even organizing a Cubase session.

I offer concrete tools, attentive listening, and precise support to move your musical project forward in the right direction.

About the course:

Composition & Arrangement
Musical structure & storytelling: learning to build solid and coherent pieces (intro, bridges, choruses, etc.).

Creating guitar riffs and harmonies: rhythmic, melodic and stylistic work according to your level.

Text writing & vocal placement: rhythm, phrasing, accuracy of intentions.

Organization in the DAW (Cubase): clear structure, tempo, grids, dynamics.

Art direction & atmospheres: defining a unique and coherent sound universe, from the riff to the background texture.

Pre-production & Sound Design
Effective session preparation: choice of tools, sounds, project organization.

Custom guitar/bass sound creation: virtual amps, IRs, custom effects chains.

Modern recording techniques: layering, harmonies, double-tracking, multiple takes.

Sound sculpture & textures: asserting the personality of each instrument.

Integration of atmospheres and textures: cinematic, orchestral or electronic textures.

Advanced sound design: modulations, automation, unconventional effects.

Recording & Editing
Effective voice recording: artistic direction, placement, interpretation.

Fast & clean editing: assembly, alignment, natural corrections.

Collaboration & Communication
Knowing how to work with other musicians: conveying ideas, communicating with a mixer or sound engineer, maintaining an overall vision.

Mixing & Finalization
Clear and productive session organization: routing, buses, colors, naming.

Using the main mixing tools:

Compression: dynamic management

EQ: Frequency balance

Delay & Reverb: space and depth

Limiting: level control

Special FX (ring mods, filters, etc.): to go further with the texture

Export preparation: stereo, stems, separate tracks, formats suitable for mixing or mastering.

In summary
The goal is not to follow a fixed method, but to make concrete progress on a real musical project, regardless of the starting level.
The idea is to start with a desire, a sound, a riff, a feeling... and turn it into a solid, inspired, controlled piece.

This is what I have been doing for twenty years, and what I pass on here with rigor.

Online lessons are available. Cubase is recommended but not required. You can work with other DAWs or directly with stems/audio files as needed.

Online sessions are held using Muse Sessions, which allows us to listen, view, and interact with your music software in real time.

My approach is fully tailored to your goals. Sessions typically focus on finishing tracks, developing ideas, improving arrangement and mixdowns, sound design, and building a more confident and efficient creative workflow.

For those interested in sound design, sessions can cover synthesis, samplers, effects, routing, modular and practical ways to get the most out of the tools you already use, whether software or hardware.

I also offer guidance on the wider industry side of music, including preparing music for release, getting signed, developing an artistic identity, self-releasing, content creation, and composing for film and TV.

We’ll work directly with your own music wherever possible, using it as the basis for focused, practical progress. We can also analyse and deconstruct released tracks that inspire you, breaking down structure, sound choices, and production techniques so you can apply them to your own work.

Alongside this, I’m happy to share insight from my own projects and releases, offering perspective on creative decision-making, workflow, and long-term development as an artist.

These sessions are best suited to committed beginners through to intermediate producers who want clear feedback, direction, and momentum in their work.
