My beginnings began with the ukulele, later I moved on to the guitar and quickly fell in love with the bass, although I like to experiment with all the gadgets that make noise, especially the drums. I have studied at the Jazz Studio school in Antwerp, at the MAI center in Nancy (France), and at the Jazz Cultural Theater in Bilbao with Joshua Edelman. After all my journey, I consider that starting out as a musician can be difficult, but magical at the same time. No methods! These lessons are for young and/or inexperienced singers. My lesson plans are tailored towards students' individual goals. For some, this may be learning and embodying an audition song for their school's upcoming theater performance, and for others voice lessons are a first step towards singing healthily in their church choir. In any case, I focus on correcting and building core skills necessary to singing one's best while encouraging and fostering creativity, accountability, and motivation. If considered for a long-term journey towards singing, I will focus particularly on classical techniques to build steady breath control, good posture, and proper vowel and consonant formation. Along with providing repertoire, if the student is ready and wants, there will be opportunities for vocal performance in the Santa Cruz area. I will encourage audio recordings in all lessons to help with future preparations. I will be assigning some homework after every lesson, likely a combination of vocalization exercises, dedicated sheet music practice, and theory homework (if needed). *My first lesson will involve getting to know the student, their goals, and some vocalization to assess vocal level. For singers with minimal/no prior foundational music theory knowledge, I may recommend time from lessons (15-30 minutes) being allocated solely towards foundational music theory learning.

Mary has been great in our interactions. At the moment, we are meeting twice a week for an hour each session. She started with a class in which we got to know each other and she listen to my goals. Then, she prepared exercises and lessons specially designed to help me reach those goals with practice and also prepared lessons to help me continue growing as a guitar player. Moreover, she goes often out of her way to get songs challenging to my level, but that are doable with enough practice. In all, I am enjoying quite a lot of our classes and I am always looking forward to them.

Marloes does an excellent job of understanding the student's needs and goals. Always attentive during the lessons, she provides clear/targeted feedback on areas of improvement and actively listens to your singing. Most importantly, she creates a comfortable/safe environment to experiment with your voice. As a beginner in singing, I highly recommend anyone who wants to get started singing to take lessons with her!
