About Me
My name is Niels, and I'm a professional musician and guitar teacher. I've been playing guitar since I was fourteen. For me, it all started with rock and metal. Think of bands like Pantera, Metallica, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Guns and Roses, and Dreamtheater.
I have a very broad interest in guitar music these days. Besides rock and metal, I've increasingly delved into musical styles like blues, pop, funk, jazz, and acoustic guitar music.
In 2008, I graduated with honors as a Guitar Teacher in Light Music. During my studies, I was taught by Marcel Karreman, Eef Albers, and Theo de Jong.
Before studying at the Utrecht Conservatory, I studied psychology for two years and medicine for two years at the University of Amsterdam (UvA). The various courses I took gave me a unique perspective on guitar playing and how to best learn. I consider how muscles work, how cognitive learning processes work, and how knowledge from different disciplines can best be integrated.
