Learn Italian from a Roman artist in Rotterdam - order your coffee like a pro

Learn Italian from a Roman artist in Rotterdam - order your coffee like a pro

Ciao! I have been teaching Italian for the past sixteen years, privately and at language schools including La Scuola Italiana del Greenwich Village in New York and ItalCultura, the school of the Italian Cultural Institute of Chicago. During our first two lessons, I’ll make sure you have the tools to pronounce and recognize all the sounds of Italian. This step is essential, and it makes everything that comes afterwards much easier. When I teach, I try to avoid all the things I hated as a language student. My terrifying French teacher in middle school made us repeat the same fake dialogue from a really bad textbook ad nauseam, over and over and over again. Some of it is still carved into my brain: “Bonjour, je m’appelle Richard Drapeau, je viens du Canada, je suis Canadien...” So we won’t do that. We’ll use real songs and real literature. We’ll have real conversations, tell stories, improvise, and, when possible, go on “talking walks.” I find that when you engage more of your senses, it becomes easier to relax, stay curious, and actually remember new words. I customize my materials around your interests, needs, and desired pace. If you love cinema, we can work with films. If you’re interested in literature, politics, food, art, history, or simply being able to have a proper conversation when you’re in Italy, that can become part of the class. And because you’re learning with a native Italian, you’ll also learn about Italian culture, history, habits, gestures, contradictions, and ways of thinking. Language is never just a pile of grammar rules. I speak several languages myself, so I know both how exciting and how painfully tedious learning one can be. My aim is to give you a strong foundation without draining all the life out of it. I hold a degree in Lingue e Letterature Straniere (Foreign Languages and Literatures) from Università Roma Tre and a Master of Fine Arts in Interdisciplinary Arts and Media from Columbia College Chicago. I wrote my university thesis on translating a long epic poem by W. H. Auden, and at one point I tried to ride a horse across America.

A musical conversation: guitar lessons in Schiedam

A musical conversation: guitar lessons in Schiedam

Howdy! Offering guitar lessons and unsolicited life advice. About a decade ago I ran into something I still can't put into words. Describing it is like trying to taste a colour, but that is the point: music is older than words, and it gets to places language can't reach. For a lot of us it's a way out of overthinking and overstressing, a way back to the feeling. Try this: keep tapping tap-ta-ta-tap-ta-ta-tap-tap on the table while you describe the room around you, out loud or just in your head. Rhythm and words compete for the same space. When you play, you let rhythm win, and the monologue goes quiet. That's half of it. The other half, the feel, can't be explained with words: you'd have to come and pick up the instrument. The lessons themselves aren't esoteric. We learn pieces you like, figure out how they work, then make our own music with them. No fixed curriculum: music needs passion, and passion needs freedom. No audition, no talent test. I'm not out to turn anyone into a guitarist. I just think we'd all be better off with more music and less words, and one (musical) conversation is enough to get the idea. Come once and see if it clicks. Fancy espressos included, I'm a big fan of good bean juice. Lessons take place at my little studio in Schiedam, two stops from Rotterdam Centraal. Practising at your place or online is also an option. I've also built a platform for my students where you can book lessons, see lesson plans ahead of time and look up material. Keep calm, play light.

Learn Portuguese 10 weeks - private or group lessons -- professional with teaching qualification - 24 years of experience - online or hybrid

Learn Portuguese 10 weeks - private or group lessons -- professional with teaching qualification - 24 years of experience - online or hybrid

Oi Tudo bem? My name is Marcelo and I am from São Paulo. I teach Portuguese and Brazilian Portuguese in The Hague and Rotterdam. Fortunately, I can combine my university studies and 23 years of practical teaching experience in such a way that the lessons are well-founded and stimulating. I have lived and studied in Brazil and Portugal (Coimbra), so I am a native speaker, with a lot of knowledge of the associated culture. By twist of fate, I am also bilingual, so I can explain grammar in Dutch and vice versa. My training is focused on speaking skills. For years I also gave business training at two very well-known language schools, so I know how to transfer a lot of knowledge in a short time. As a student you will feel this immediately from the first lesson. Learning Portuguese for business or urgently (within 10 working days) is also possible. I have a Chamber of Commerce and VAT number. I have a lot of experience teaching lessons via Teams of Whereby (Whereby is more professional and European), even before the crisis because I also teach students in other countries. For virtual lessons, you will receive a transcript of the lesson by email after the lesson. Classes at my home are also possible with 6 feet of distance and good circulation. My lessons are very structured and step by step. In addition, I always explain the 'why' of a grammatical topic, which creates a link that also works better for memory and makes the lesson more interesting. Because I am so results-oriented, I try to gently guide trainees up the stairs to full speaking skills and my job is to make the lessons as educational and attractive as possible. Abraços (kind regards) Marcelo

Violin lessons for all levels: Technique, sound and expression

Violin lessons for all levels: Technique, sound and expression

Every student picks up the violin for a different reason — some want to finally play the piece they've always loved, others are preparing for a conservatory audition, and many are simply curious and want to see where the instrument takes them. Lessons here start from that goal, not from a fixed method: a hobbyist and a future professional need very different things, and the plan adjusts as progress happens. The core focus is classical technique — posture, bow control, intonation, and musical phrasing — built on training from some of the most respected names in the violin world today, including masterclasses with Olivier Charlier, Marc Danel, and Sarah Kapustin. Chamber music and orchestral playing are a particular strength, drawn from active experience performing in string quartets and symphony orchestras, so students preparing for ensemble playing or exams get guidance that comes from real stage experience, not just theory. The first lesson is relaxed and low-pressure: it's mainly about listening, watching how you already play (or, if you're a complete beginner, how you hold the instrument), and understanding what you want to get out of lessons. From there, the first few real lessons focus on solid fundamentals — a comfortable, sustainable technique from day one prevents bad habits later. Regular short practice between lessons matters far more than long, occasional sessions, and having a well-adjusted instrument (even a modest one) makes that daily practice much easier — advice on setup and equipment is always part of the conversation if needed. Behind the teaching is a violinist who recently finalized Master's degree in Classical Music Performance at Codarts Rotterdam under Gordan Nikolic and Goran Gribajcevic with highest marks, following a Bachelor's degree from the Conservatorio Superior de les Illes Balears. Teaching experience runs alongside an active performing career — including work as an academist with the Orquestra Simfònica de les Illes Balears and as a member of a professional string quartet — so lessons stay grounded in what actually works on stage. Classes are available in English, Spanish, and Catalan.

“ It is with the utmost admiration and gratitude that I extend my effulgent endorsement for David, the epitome of mathematical tutorship. His fervor for the subject and his pupils is steadfast, and David’s commitment to ensuring proficiency and comprehension is manifest in every tutorial session. His availability is most pliable, as he exhibits a constant readiness to alter his docket to accede to the necessities of his students. This adaptability is rare and precious quality, one that has played a seminal role in my time near the finals. Not only do he demonstrate devotion during his scheduled lessons time, for he is always approachable for additional guidance and support outside his hours. David’s unwavering dedication to the academic success of his students is truly remarkable and deeply appreciated by those who benefit from it. What distinguishes David is not solely his mastery in mathematics, but his amiable and cordial demeanour. He cultivates a genial and hospitable environment; and his pedagogy a harmonious blend of professionalism and conviviality. I consider myself fortunate to have availed myself of David’s instruction, and I cannot recommend him highly enough. In conclusion, if you seek a mathematics tutor, David Devidze should be your first port of call. His passion for the subject, commitment to his students, and affable personality makes him the ideal tutor for anyone seeking to enhance their mathematical understanding and aptitude. A true gem in the world of tutelage ”

“ I was thinking, that learning Chinese is extremely difficult, however, thanks to Shan,  this language becomes more and more clear for me. Every lesson is very productive and I feel, that I progress fast! Today, there are numerous teachers, who can teach you Chinese. However, only a few of them can make the educational process so interesting and enjoyable. Luckily for me, Shan is one of them and I am very happy, that I found her. Shan is very precise and corrects every my mistake. She can easily explain how to properly pronounce words with different tones, how to write syllables, the grammar and many more. I like, that with her, I am not just memorising Chinese language, but I do really understand it. Overall, without a doubt, I can say, that Shan is a great teacher! 心💕 ”
