I specialize in teaching Mandarin Chinese to both absolute beginners and advanced-level students. I am a certified Mandarin Chinese teacher and have lived in the Netherlands for ten years.

My drive to teach Chinese comes from the desire to help people communicate with local Chinese and understand the culture & society. I hope people can understand China firsthand, beyond what the media portrays. That is also why my class is communication-oriented and culture-involved.

My lessons creatively incorporate games, puzzles, and real-world materials like video clips, street signs, and authentic conversations - ensuring students learn practical language skills in an enjoyable way.

I specialise in teaching Chinese and Japanese to students of all ages and abilities. For both of these languages, my pronunciation, grammar and fluency are at a near native level, and my students benefit from my ability to explain concepts in English.

I am a creative teacher, however I do not shy away from traditional approaches to teaching, and as a teacher of languages, I particularly enjoy teaching grammar and pronunciation and have developed a thorough approach to each of these, along with all other aspects of language-learning. I have considerable experience devising and implementing my own syllabi (something I also greatly enjoy!) to cater for the diverse needs of my students - particularly younger learners.

The exact format for my classes therefore differs from student to student: some prefer to focus solely on speaking and listening; others (schoolchildren for instance) study more writing and translation. A typical syllabus followed could include the following on a weekly or fortnightly basis:

pronunciation training; writing practice; focussed work on grammar and grammatical structures; reading exercises; conversational role-play; vocabulary testing; essays on history and culture
