I've taught with the most reputable children's musical theatre organizations in NYC with students of all ages as well as private students and I've worked with Broadway stars such as Laura Osnes, Karen Mason and Ron Bohmer, who have also recorded my music, and I'm excited to bring my 20 yrs of teaching experience to Berlin! I teach songwriting as well, if that is something you're interested in. I'm a classically trained singer who performed with the San Francisco Opera and other companies both in opera and musical theatre for many years. Though I specialize now in musical theatre, I am happy and comfortable teaching you to sing in whatever style you prefer. The basics are the same! In our lessons, we will work on breath, correct vowel pronunciation, placement, diction, etc... as well as getting rid of the tension and habits that keep us from singing freely and beautifully. We will also work on the musical and dramatic aspects of the material we choose together, so that you will feel comfortable at an audition or a performance. I'm a DJ and music production instructor with 15 years of experience, and the founder of DJ School Berlin. I also run my own label and organise events. My classes take place in a relaxed, intimate atmosphere, and are fully focused on your needs and goals. I teach both fundamental concepts and creative techniques, while supporting you in the development of your artistic project I also compose music for media (trailers, films, ads, games, etc) and perform live focusing on sound exploration and experimental performance. This means we can absolutely work on different musical genres or more unconventional, creative approaches. Passionate about dancefloor energy, it’s behind the decks and my machines that I feel most alive — and I truly love passing that on. I have been teaching for over 5 years and have taught a range of subjects including English Language, Politics and Sociology. I have worked in language schools in both Hamburg and Berlin as well as English state schools. I am a Cambridge University certified language teacher (CELTA) and have a postgraduate degree in education from the University of Cambridge where I was awarded the Lowman's prize for English from my college. I have taught a range of language levels from beginners to advanced and always try to foreground my learner's knowledge and interests. I also have lots of experience teaching business English and preparing students for examinations. I always aim to construct my teaching around the needs and desires of my students, but frequently use a discursive method for teaching as this is generally the end goal of learning any language. I so enjoyed my class with Deborah! Immediately from when I first went in, I felt very comfortable. It was a really fun session, we went through different songs that I like, for her to get a feeling for my voice. She also already gave me some really helpful advice, which I can already feel the difference in how much power I have in my voice! I am really looking forward to my future sessions with her.
