About Me

Professional musician for over 20 years.
He is also an author-composer-producer and artistic director of the "nujazz-project" collective bringing together professional and versatile musicians from the Belgian and international scene (Oran Etkin, Stéphane Mercier, Chris Joris, DJ Odilon, Paolo Loveri, ...) . A first album was released in September 2011 and the second album currently in production will be released in November 2017.
Director and creator of a drum school, he contributes to the learning of people passionate about music and who sometimes wish to discover percussion, sometimes to perfect the technique by the art of movement (Moeller, Push Pull, Pumping Motion, Free Stroke, ...).

Education

Sylvio began studying classical drumming for seven years before entering Dante Agostini's school in Brussels for a four-year training with Dominique Hamet.
He then enriched his training by studying with DOM FAMULARO in Long Island and at the NEW YORK COLLECTIVE SCHOOL OF MUSIC (Professor: Adriano Santos and Peter Retzlaf).

He is then asked as a musician in many festivals to interpret di erent musical styles (Rock, Jazz, Soul, Reggae, Fusion ..), he will play notably in Belgium, France, Canada and England.

I am Thijs (30) an experienced drummer and musician, with a wide range of musical interests. Studying jazz drums under the wings of Lander Gyselinck at the KASK/Conservatory in Ghent. In addition, I have followed masterclasses and lessons from/with Joey Baron (US), Kendrick Scott (US), Corey Fonville (US) and Stéphane Galland (BE). I am also active in various bands/groups.

My lessons, depending on the level, focus on both the fundamental building blocks of drumming and music as a whole. The course method, inspired by the Agostini school (French method used in French and Belgian academies and conservatories) is divided between technique and drums. At the rate of one session each we will focus once on technique and movements outside the drums (on pads) and the other time on the drums and the application of technique and movements.

-> The technique lessons and the movements will be those of the so-called 'Moeller technique' that I learned through his direct lineage of student.
-> The drum lessons are greatly inspired by the pedagogy of the M.A.I. (Music Academy International - Nancy (fr)) and in particular that of Richard-Paul Morellini, renowned instructor.

The courses are complete, in-depth but above all specifically thought of to be progressive. They are suitable for children from 7 years old as well as adults of all ages.

=> Particular attention is paid to the movements and their correct application, to the total independence of the limbs and finally to an understanding of the rhythm and its theory. My main goal is to give the student complete control behind the drums and skills to be able to self-learn any piece in any musical style. 1 hour of weekly lessons are never enough, they should only be used to fuel the passion that will make you play at home more and more.

On demand or for advancs students:
- I am very passionate about the study of South American rhythms. Due to their complexity, apart from the samba and Baïon ostinatos, they are not included in the program before the advanced level. They can be at the request of the student.
- I am also specialized in metal (musical style) and double pedal. The latter is not included in the program unless requested by the student. The double pedal courses are based on the methodology of Virgil Donati.
