My name is Miriam, I am a graduate in Master of Classical Music at KASK & Conservatorium in Ghent.
I've been teaching cello to children, teenagers and adults for 10 years, so I've acquired the necessary experience to be able to adapt to the different and personal needs and objectives of each student. My teaching methodology focuses on creating a friendly and relaxed environment (which does not mean undemanding!) in which students feel confident to express their own ideas and worries. In my lessons I focus on technical and postural questions, but we also reflect together on the music, as I like my students to develop their own musical ideas and not just imitate the teacher.

¡Hola! ¡Hola! ¡Ciao! ¡Hallo! Soy Miriam, una española que llegó a Gante con la intención de pasar solo dos años para estudiar mi máster, pero me enamoré de esta ciudad cálida y amigable, así que ahora he decidido quedarme aquí. Empecé a aprender neerlandés en septiembre de 2023. Actualmente estoy estudiando el nivel B2. ¡Y ya doy clases de violonchelo en neerlandés a la mayoría de mis alumn@s! :)

Toco el violonchelo desde que tenía 7 años, y durante este largo viaje musical he tenido la suerte de haber conocido a increíbles profesores y músicos, tanto nacionales como internacionales, que han compartido conmigo su conocimiento y pasión por la música y el violonchelo. De todos ellos he tomado pequeños fragmentos de conocimiento e inspiración que ahora comparto con mis alumn@s durante nuestras clases. Por eso amo la música y la enseñanza, encuentro que el conocimiento compartido y regalado es simplemente algo precioso y especial de lo que me encanta ser parte.

Además, he tenido la suerte de tocar en numerosas orquestas nacionales e internacionales donde he aprendido mucho a nivel musical y personal. Si ya es increíble hacer música por tu cuenta, imagínate acompañado de otros 100 músicos, respirando y sintiendo la música contigo!

Hello dear aspiring cellists!

My name is David and I recently live in Ghent.
I started playing the cello when I was barely 3 and have since received a range of teachers and techniques that I would like to share with you! For example, I have been a regular student at various concervatories since I was 13, such as the KCB and CRB in Brussels, KCA antwerpen, CvA Amsterdam, ... With teachers such as Didier, Marie Hallynck, Walter Grimmer, Edmont Baert, Justus Grimm, Lâzlo Fenyö, Claudio Bohorquez, Jeroen Reuling, Olsi Leka, Jerôme Pernoo, Dimitri Ferschtmann, Vladimir Perlin, ... in both French, Russian, German and Belgian cello schools.
I am also a winner and laureate of many national and international competitions from Belgium to Bulgaria and have a rich experience in chamber music and solo recitals with organizations such as the Flanders Festival, the Musique de Chambre de Wallonie, the Arte Amanti festival, etc. with national and international artists and colleagues. and as a soloist with orchestra. (concertos such as Shostakovitch, Shumann, Haydn, Tchaikovsky's rococo etc). Recently I also do more and more studio work outside the classical genre. I have also been giving private lessons to advanced and less advanced aspiring professional and enthusiastic amateurs for years and I provide coaching for exams and competitions. I really enjoy teaching and performing, and I have previous experience as a flute teacher back in Spain, so I would like to have some new students here in Ghent as well. Lessons for all ages. Harp, piano, music theory.

I graduated from the KMC Gent and have a career/experience of more than 40 years.
I also followed yoga, mindfulness and kinesiology courses.
The combination of playing an instrument with mindfulness opens up many possibilities.

During the lessons for harp or piano you learn the necessary technique, and musicality is taken into account.
The better the technical skill, the more fluidly the musicality can unfold.
No previous knowledge of ear training is required for the instrument. Gradually you learn to read the notes.

For those who wish, I give AMV (General Musical Education)
Here you practice extra on reading, rhythm, general & specific hearing exercises, and theoretical knowledge.

Those who are going to higher music studies and experience a gap in music theory can come to me for specific training. I also guide students for solfège who are taking their entrance exam for KMC and also during their student trajectory. Here is more explanation.

The lessons are individual and adapted to each student.

For toddlers aged 4 to 6 who are learning to play the piano, I follow a method based on a musical fairy tale.
It is a method that meets the child's world of experience.
They discover the possibilities of the instrument and the way of writing songs. Step by step they learn to play and sing songs on the piano.

For harp I can advise to start at 6 years. Fingers at 4 years are still too tender to pluck strings. 6 years is a better age to start harp playing. They play on a small instrument that is appropriate for their age.

For children who start from the age of 7, I use a different method book for piano and the child's world of experience is also taken into account.

For children who start playing the harp at that age, the method book is also aimed at the child.

The method books are therefore tailored to the age and capabilities of the child, teenagers and adults.

For students at the college who are going to study music professionally, the subject 'music theory' is included in the curriculum. In case of shortcomings in music theory, the specific needs are updated.
Both theory, lecture in G and F clef, performance of rhythm in all time signatures, rhythm dictation, intonation training, intonation dictation, recognition of intervals melodic and harmonic, rhythmic-melodic dictation can be updated to make up for deficiencies.

I can guide students in music as a hobby, as well as in music professionally.

Today - after completing an extensive selection procedure - Laurens is professionally active as a clarinetist with the Royal Marine Band, one of the prestigious orchestras of the Belgian army.

In addition to his education at the Royal Conservatory of Ghent, Laurens has had the opportunity to learn several times in a number of masterclasses by, among others, Arno Piters (Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra), Davide Lattuada (Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra), Bart de Karter (New Amsterdam Clarinet Quartet), Pascal Moragues (Orchester de Paris), Ricardo Mataredonna (The La Monnaie Theatre), David Van Maele (Royal Music Chapel of the Guides), Bart Watté (Royal Music Chapel of the Guides) etc.

Both as a freelancer and an active member, Laurens has played in various orchestras, such as the Royal Band of the Belgian Air Force, Frascati Symphonic, the Euregio Youth Orchestra, the Mahler Student Festival Orchestra, La Chapelle Sauvage, Flanders Young Symphony Orchestra, the Ghent University Symphony Orchestra, the Ghent University Harmony Orchestra...

Since 2021, Laurens has been a member of the Meraki Wind Quintet, with which he has already successfully participated in a number of competitions, including the IMC International Music Competition 2023 (1er Prix à l'unanimité), the Euterpe Music Awards 2022 (gold prize), the Classic Pure Vienna International Music Competition 2022 (special mention), and the Fanny Mendelssohn International Online Competition 2022/23 (second prize).

In addition, Laurens is also active as a conductor, both in a symphonic and harmonic orchestra. I am Jess, a musician and producer from Ghent, graduated as a bachelor in music at PXL Hasselt. In the meantime I have been teaching guitar for 10 years at music studios and in the form of private lessons at home. Besides teaching I have my own project called Monagi and I write/produce for bands like Tout Va Bien and Patches. I also play guitar at TheShadow Machine. All my lessons take place in a relaxed atmosphere in my music studio in Ghent at your own pace.

For beginners: During our guitar lesson you can bring your own songs that you want to work on or together we will see what the best songs are for you and what you can learn the most from.
