Education

Singer trained in both classical and modern discipline settled in Granada for eight years, participated in numerous recording projects in every style and color. It was there where Pepa started to define her musical personality, identity strongly linked to African-American music: Blues, Soul, and Jazz. Her strong interest and desire to learn more about music motivated her to go to Cuba, where she learned about Trova, Feeling, and the Cuban Son. She participated with the Latin Jazz group Mezcla at La Zorra y el Cuervo jazz club (The Fox and the Crow) in La Havana. Later she moved to London for seven years, where Della Rods, Cerys Hogg, and Clare Foster trained her in modern harmony and vocal improvisation. Pepa participated in several workshops and classes directed by the London Community Gospel Choir as well. Additionally, she sang in the recording project of the pianist Jonathan Idiagbonya at the BBC Maida Vale Studios.

Experience / Qualifications

Along these years, her voice has appeared in countless occasions: live, radio, or discography publications, highlighting her recordings Pepa Project and Pepa & Ricky Vivar in 2010 under El Pescador and EMI España music labels. These two projects were tied to the 70’s Soul Music and the 40’s Jazz Music.

In 2013, Pepa presented “Lady Sings the Blues” in a sextect format recording an EP with 5 tunes. A tribute project produced by the guitarist and composer Toni Mora, based on Billie Holiday’s identity through the selection of his most influential and personal themes. In September of 2014 Pepa started Jazz Studies at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels taking lessons from great musicians such as David Linx, Christophe Wallemme, Stephane Galland and many others, attending also to Masterclases from International musicians such as Norma Winston or Peter Churchil. Between the musicians she has worked with are: Jessica Lauren, David León, Derrick Mcintyre, Juan Galiardo, Paco Perera, Toni Mora, Miguel Benito, Maciek Pysz, Ander García, John Michael Mckenzie, Ricky Vivar, Nacho Salmerón, Pedro Cortejosa, Guillermo Morente, Antonio Lizana, Alex Ayuso, Javier Ruibal, Alex Gilson, Armando Luongo, Jimmy Weinstein, mong many others.

The lessons are very strongly focused on what the student wants to learn and play, and the exercises are found in function of his will to strengthen creativity. As a teacher, I totally change what the student feels like, and to every style of music. The purpose of my lessons: to generate pleasure and creativity! Technical points are examined in function of where the student wants to go in his learning process.

Saxophone, music theory and improvisation - all levels
This course is for anyone that's interested to play the saxophone at any level, from the very beginners to students interested in more advanced topics such as improvisation, both in unconventional ways or more founded on the tradition of Jazz. The course will be adapted to the pupils goals and level, with a demanding but not overpowering approach. The frequency can also be optimized to the pupil's necessities: weekly, bi-weekly or monthly (not less). I believe that the main goal of a mentor should ultimately to make the pupil become his own teacher and establish an empatic two-way learning process.
