About Me

Hello, I’m Joel.

I have been tutoring mathematics, physics and other subjects since the age of 12. From an early age, I discovered that I not only enjoy learning complex topics myself, but also helping others understand them.

My teaching philosophy is simple:

Understanding beats memorization.

Rather than teaching students how to solve a specific exercise, I focus on helping them understand why a solution works. This enables students to think independently and solve new problems with confidence.

Every student learns differently. That’s why I adapt every lesson to the student’s current level, goals and individual learning style.

In addition to tutoring sessions, I create personalized learning materials such as summaries, cheat sheets, study cards, exercise collections, learning plans and complete exam preparation dossiers. These resources are tailored to the student’s prior knowledge, learning objectives and upcoming exams.

Alongside tutoring, I have been programming since the age of 8 and have spent many years studying mathematics, logic, science and problem-solving. This background allows me to explain concepts from different perspectives and adapt my explanations to different types of learners.

My name is Valentin and I have a master's degree in Physics from ENS Lyon. In 2017 I became the youngest medalist at the International Physics Olympiad. Currently I am doing my doctoral studies in Basel. My scientific approach favors above all the in-depth understanding of concepts rather than the simple learning of the laws of physics by heart. I have experience solving very complex problems in physics and mathematics, where just knowing the formulas is not enough. It is by grasping the deeper meaning of these formulas that we can effectively apply them in a broader context and thus facilitate the search for solutions.

I start by doing a short assessment of the student's level, followed by identifying their main difficulties in the subject. Then I explain difficult concepts in detail and show how I would approach different problems through concrete examples.
