I realized that taking the International Baccalaureate Programme (IB) during High School, not only prepared me for university but also equipped me with research and analysis skills, allowing me to be a better professional in the future. You can decide what you want to do in our class. Tell me in advance, and I'll spend time preparing interesting materials. For example:

I'll teach you the differences between formal and informal phrases so that you use them in the right situations. For example, some Dutch people don't know this, but when you want to say "moeten", in English we usually don't say "must". That meaning of "must" is very formal and uncommon in modern spoken English. Instead, we say "have to". In 1965, the Queen said "I must go to the lavatory". Everyone else in the 21st century says "I have to go to the toilet."

💬 I'm Tom, and I've been teaching English since 2013. Originally I'm from the south of England, and I've been happily living in The Hague, Netherlands since 2021. Before this I lived in Taiwan and mainland China. I speak a bunch of languages besides English, like Mandarin, Finnish, some French, and a little Japanese. When I'm not teaching, I'm working on my Dutch!
