I do not have a formal graduate degree in teaching, but I place a high value on all forms of learning a language (listening, speaking, reading & writing) and I believe my prior experience as a tutor compensates for this lack. I have years of past teaching experience as a music teacher and a substitute teacher. I have taught individually, in big classes, and in kindergarten as well. In general, my method is quite dynamic, flexible, and goal-oriented. I am very flexible and listen to my students on their goals. I am prepared to research how to develop as a teacher and how to meet my students' goals best. I provide material to help my students improve independently between lessons (optional homework). In English, I use a specific coursebook series which is also designed for self-study, but I do implement some additional materials for learning such as Preply content, lesson PDFs, and audio files from external sources according to students' individual needs. In the Finnish language, I use multiple different textbooks and audio which provide learning and practice for the written word as well as the spoken language. I implement materials found online as well. There are varying ways to meet the goals of students, and thus the specifics of these methods should be applied individually.

Hi, my name is Pinja and I was born and raised in Finland. At the university, I studied Social Science. I have worked in the field with children and families since 2009. I will tailor the Finnish classes according to each student's needs. So, in that sense, there are many options! Among some things that my lessons usually entail: -Reading texts with key words vocabularies -Listening exercises with key words vocabularies -Grammar exercises -Discussion exercises of mixed topics as well as of the texts and listening exercises -Checking homework (if there have been any) I will create a Google Docs document for each student and all the lesson notes and materials can be found from there, so you can access your file anytime you want to review the things that we have studied during the lessons. This also helps with keeping the things organised. The bottom line is that the lessons will be tailored so that they can fit to each student's needs, and therefore correspond with the desired level and goals. The language of instruction can be English, Estonian or Spanish. But, of course, if you're looking for a mainly conversational approach or are a more advanced student, then we could even solely speak in Finnish as well! I offer Finnish grammar, conversation and YKI-testi preparation classes. All my classes are custom-made for your level, needs and wants. I will provide all the materials needed in our lessons and will be happy to take I teach all levels, beginners from a book and more advanced speakers with just talking. The book will be our main base for learning but of course I will happily teach you whatever else it is that you want to learn as well. CONVERSATION LESSONS; we will talk, talk and talk, so it's gonna be fun! If you're still in the beginner level but want conversation lessons, I will be happy to help. I will adjust the topic and my speaking speed to your level. YKI-TESTI PREPARATION; class will be focused on the speaking part of the test. If you want to practise writing as well I can assign you writing homework which we will check in the beginning of the next class. I will do my best teaching and explaining you whatever it is that you want/need to learn, but some grammatical explanations might be better to learn with a professional teacher.
