Did you know that in the Klezmer history clarinet substituted the violin for projection reasons but also because perfectly able to imitate the human voice, crying or laughing? Would you like to discover the fascinating world of clarinet? One of my priorities as a musician is the sound. I believe that with a beautiful and personal sound you are able at every level to transmit emotion and meaning, it doesn’t matter the difficulty or the level. So I try to focus first on awareness of what’s beautiful for the student and what’s not. Then through technique and repertoire (suggestions of the student or suggestions of mine that can help to grow the student curiosity), we develop the student knowledge. Always helping the student to understand -depending on his/her the theoretical level- what we are doing, putting together music and theory. And giving tools to expand the border, at all levels. I have knowledge and experience in Jazz, Classical, Klezmer, Choro Music and Improvisation. You just need a precious element! • Music Theory I focus on having a good basics, spending as much as we need to understand every single thing, because then with times it becomes more easy. I try to help the student simplifying the material because then, we only with ourselves with a good procedure of the basics to solve any problem. Only with one lesson, you will understand what I mean. I have experience in preparing students for exams, the ones for the semester as well as any official exam; doesn't matter if you have an intermediate theory level and you want to improve, or if you would like to be stronger solidifying the knowledge you have (which is always the best option), or if you don’t know anything about notes and music concepts and you would like to be familiar with them. Maybe you are an adult who always wanted to improvise but doesn’t know where to start...? The only thing you need is a good organization -which I can provide- to reach any goal!

I've got over fifteen years of experience in teaching music and I offer one-to-one lessons in: • Composing • Arranging • Electric Bass (Jazz and other modern music - No Classical) • Double Bass (Jazz and other modern music - No Classical) • Music Theory • Jazz Harmony • Notation with Sibelius software • Ensemble and Musicianship Although my method is tailored to each student's needs, I structure it as follows: • Establish a connection with the pupil by understanding their needs and musical objectives. • Design a path tailored to the pupil's goals that uses and develops any pre-existing knowledge and skills. • Guide the student in comprehending the theory behind the basic elements of music, such as scales and arpeggios. • Introduction to the notions of tonality, harmony and harmonic analysis. • Development of the notions of melody, form and structure. • Guide the pupil in understanding the application of different techniques of approaching the composing process, in order to establish a personal method. • Understanding the specific musical language of different genres such as Jazz, Blues, Rock, Funk, Pop y Folk through listening and transcriptions. • Analysis of scores and arrangements of other composers. • Practical composing exercises based upon the studied techniques. Hernan is not just a good teacher but an exceptional one. I have had only one lesson with him so far, but I got so much from it, that I am looking forward to the next one. He went above and beyond from the beginning. He is very modest and professional in his teaching style, which makes it easy to absorb what he teaches. I would say I am an advanced composition and intermediate orchestration student with decades studying and composing by myself. I had been thinking about taking some advanced online courses available on the internet, but almost all such courses are really work-on-your-own courses. They might have Facebook groups available at best, where you can post questions. But they cannot compare to having a real teacher with the hands-on knowledge guiding you one on one. That one session was packed with so many great insights which I could have never gotten out of any video course or book. Only an insider of orchestration craft and the music composition industry could have such insights. I am looking forward to what I can learn in future lessons. UPDATE AFTER 15 LESSONS: I stopped after 15 lessons because honestly it will take me a long time to process and apply everything Hernan has given me. I will be applying it to my large portfolio of compositions, and I know my compositions are going to be much more mature and well-crafted after I apply what I have learnt to them. I have a completely tranformed attitude and understanding of music composition and orchestration craft. I thought it was simply a matter of learning additional material to get me to the advanced level of the masters. But I have learnt it is a whole world of nuances, subtleties and experience that the masters had a grasp of that allowed them to create at that level. Hernan has given me a good initiation into that world. I have also acquired tools and skills that will allow me to continue the journey on my own. Thank you Hernan.

Nicolas has a friendly approach in his horn teaching backed by his high professional standard with very good ears. His feedback is to the point and focused on building up in small steps for long term improvements. His lesson on resuming practice after a break was very useful, which I’m sure will benefit me repeatedly in future. He also very kindly helped me look for a mouthpiece and instrument, which again was very useful. If/when face to face becomes possible, I’d love to get lessons on historical horn from him!

Jason is a great teacher and corresponds to what I was expecting from a guitar teacher. He is very good at understanding what you need to improve your playing and his very clear and patient in explaining techniques and theories. He is using easy to read material for his courses. I feel that I have already substantially improved with him. He is flexible about time and and place of lessons. He is also a very friendly and pleasant person.
