Trusted teacher: Hello I'm a professional bass player living in Amsterdam. I have a passion for teaching and passing on some of the knowledge that I have acquired during my studies at several schools and heard from the musicians I look up to. I've done my bachelor degree at The Royal Academy of Music in Denmark, and I finished my Masters at Conservatorium van Amsterdam in 2024. I teach double bass, electric bass and composition. Musically I try to be as open as I can. For me it doesn't matter if it's free jazz, traditional jazz, pop or metal as long as it feels good. I'm a leader of my own group where we combine jazz and indie rock. we will release our debut album this fall. I'm also a sideman in several groups. As for composition I have experience with composing for regular jazz groups, big band, string quartet and irregular constellations such as my band with three guitars and three horns. Some thoughts about teaching: I believe that the most important thing when teaching is having a good relation to one another and generally just having a good time. If we don't enjoy the process we don't learn. You should feel comfortable saying how you feel and what you want to learn/don't want to learn. With that transparency I will be able to customize the teaching and balance the curriculum so that I meet your needs while pushing you into unknown territory. I started piano at the age of 5, and music has been an important part of my life ever since. Classically trained as a violinist, I picked up another instrument named Erhu (Chinese violin) and became a professional performer. I am experienced in teaching both children and adults, from different cultural backgrounds. Also, I have been actively involved in both Western and Chinese orchestra since high school. Thanks to my years of experience in being an orchestra member and soloist, I am also familiar with orchestral music. As a humble music therapist, I am passionate about music and believe in the power of music. I trust that music is in everybody and I respect every student's individuality and thus tailor my teaching methods to develop my students' full potential. I started teaching in 2009 and most students put their trust in me when they first decided to learn an instrument. I also enjoy exploring the world of music with students with learning disabilities. I am proud to say, my students, aged from 5 to 60, are enthusiastic in playing the instrument they have chosen and keen to improve their skills following my advice. Best piano lesson I've ever had! Admittedly, this was also the first lesson I've ever had - however it was every bit as good as I had hoped it would be. Starting at the ripe old age of 35 I was slightly concerned that I might be too old to start, but Deniz made the whole experience very easy to enjoy, and she adapted the lesson around the very little bits I was able to do, while filling in lots of information that I didn't know. Looking forward to carrying on my training and would highly recommend to anyone that's thinking of taking the plunge.

I have had 5 very helpful lessons with a relaxed atmosphere so far. Federica has directly spotted my weaknesses and has helped me to make my practice time more effective and goal-oriented instead of simply playing what I had learned at some point. I have definitely become more aware of things that I can improve and learned how to make progress more quickly. So far, we have combined different exercises on technique with music theory and also worked on my repertoire a little bit.

Excellent teaching skills. I had booked private lessons and Ton tailored every session exactly to my needs, and added even more. Beside photography, we discussed day-to-day technical topics such as back-up, storage, organising images, etc. You can see that Ton is used to being in a classroom - very structured and content focused. Excellent communication, always on time and also flexible to reschedule if needed. I will be back with more questions!
