Because I am always fully committed to my students, I like to study each case individually and prepare for each lesson beforehand. A bit about my teaching background: both my parents are violin teachers, so this is my world since I can remember. As soon as I started conservatory in London I started teaching privately and in a music school while I was studying performance and music pedagogy. I am proud to have very high-level students that have pursued a career in music and have become exceptional violinists. I currently divide my time between teaching violin and playing as Co-Principal second violin at Philharmonie Zuidnederland, as well as freelancing in other orchestras like Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonisch Orkest and Nederlands Philharmonisch Orkest. I gained my Bachelor's Degree from the Royal College of Music in London with a specialization in teaching and a Master's Degree from Musikhochschule Lübeck. I'm now back in Belgium for some new musical adventures, as well as to meet new students. I welcome students from the age of four to adults. I have a real passion for transmitting my love of music, and I like to have a creative, playful and holistic approach to teaching. I also play the piano and often use it for aural training or to accompany my students (or do violin duets). I do believe that music is not just for competitions or exams but a skill for life that can bring tremendous joy, discoveries, friends and fun along the way. Learning an instrument is also a great way to foster different qualities such as patience, diligence, presence, resilience, deep listening and the ability to express and share our emotions with others. Having explored many different violin methods and styles, I take a different approach according to each student. I like to teach a solid classical technique with some scales, studies and pieces, but there are many different ways to make music enjoyable or find other paths depending on the student's goal. Although I was trained classically in Belgian Conservatoires and the Guildhall School of Music, I do like to teach a variety of music that is not just classical (Celtic, world, klezmer, jazz, tango, film music, pop...). I often encourage my students to compose or improvise freely. In the last two decades, I have led many youth orchestras and violin workshops and worked for many different primary and secondary schools in England. Francisco was an excellent teacher, who firstly took the time and trouble to understand my problems which I had built up in my viola playing. He helped me explore the outcome I was looking for and we discussed how to go about it. He had fully researched the music I was going play and showed me a new insight in to the music we looked at in the lesson. His knowledge of technique was very good and he was able to analysis the problems I was having and discuss practical ways of adjusting them. It was amazing how simply adjusting my shoulder rest could affect both my sound and intonation. He also discussed ways of looking at performance anxiety, and thorough out it all was most pleasant and encouraging.

Ana was very quick to respond to my first message and very friendly. Speaks English well which is great for me! We arranged our first lesson easily, and as a total beginner, she advised me on where I could hire a violin. Our first lesson was great, she was very patient and explained the basics well. Lesson times can be flexible which helps me since I work shifts and cannot commit to the same time each week. I would recommend Ana to anyone wanting to learn violin.
