About Me

Ik ben een energieke, gedreven en creatieve persoon. Mijn passie ligt in het doceren. Ik voel me op mijn best als ik voor een klas met leerlingen sta. Als docent heb ik inmiddels ervaring opgedaan. Ik heb de laatste jaren mezelf leren kennen als een docent die leerlingen motiveert, stimuleert en helpt mijn vak te begrijpen. Als docent heb ik ervaring bij het coachen en begeleiden van leerlingen. Ik zet me graag in om studieproblemen te verhelpen en kwaliteiten te herkennen in mijn leerlingen. Ik ben doelgericht, stressbestendig en zet graag een extra stap om de leerlingen te motiveren en te zien groeien in het vak. Ook ben ik op de hoogte van de laatste technologische innovaties op het gebied van lesgeven. Samen werken doe ik graag om het onderwijs te verbeteren en de kwaliteit te behouden.

Education

Na mijn opleiding HBO bedrijfseconomie ben ik mij goed gaan oriënteren op de kansen en mogelijkheden op de arbeidsmarkt. Ik ben me uiteindelijk gaan richten op het onderwijs, omdat dit mij meer motiveert. Vol enthousiasme heb ik de docenten opleiding algemene economie gevolgd. Daarna heb ik 12 maanden stage gelopen bij het ROC in Amstelveen. Tijdens mijn LIO-stage is het dynamiek en contact met de leerlingen als docent mij enorm goed bevallen. Elke dag is anders in het onderwijs en dat geeft mij als docent de motivatie leerlingen te inspireren en inlevingsvermogen te hebben voor elke situatie. Als docent heb ik ervaring met examenklassen en het begeleiden van leerlingen. Ik was namelijk mentor voor twee eindklassen en begeleidde leerlingen die studievertraging hadden en laag hebben gescoord voor het vak rekenen. Daarna heb ik ervaring opgedaan door les te geven op scholen als 2de graads wiskunde en economie docent.

After tutoring for over 6 years in the Amsterdam area, I am very familiar with the various school curriculums. Having moved around quite a bit, I understand the stress students undergo adapting to new schooling systems. I enjoy working privately with students to build their confidence. I previously was a primary school teacher of all subjects (Grades 1&2) for a private international school in Dubai. I am familiar with international school curriculum and challenges faced by students when moving to a new country.

I have extensive experience with students of all learning levels. I have been privately tutoring for over 10 years now. English is my first language (I am American). I also have experience tutoring at a higher age (as well as university level). I am an excellent writer, editor, and researcher and work part time in UVA's graduate school in the sociology department. I completed my MSc at UVA and undergraduate at UCLA.

Currently, the majority of my students are primary school students who attend the British school or ISA. However, I teach a large number of international school students or older students. Tijdens mijn studie Econometrie aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam (afgestudeerd in 2015, MSc.) en naast mijn baan als consultant, heb ik altijd met veel plezier wiskunde en statistiek gegeven aan middelbare scholieren en universitaire studenten (HBO en WO). Als je moeite hebt met een specifiek vak dan kunnen we samen kijken waar je goed in bent en waar we ons tijdens de sessies het best op kunnen focussen. Een paar vakken waar ik in het verleden studenten in heb begeleid zijn: wiskunde, bedrijfseconomie, economie, rekenen, accounting/accountancy, cost accounting, managerial accounting, financial accounting, corporate finance, risk management en investments. Ik geef tips over welke informatie het meest belangrijkst is, hoe je je het beste kan voorbereiden voor het vak, en hoe je toetsvragen het best kan lezen. Deze methode blijkt erg effectief!

Tijdens mijn sessies begeleid ik vrijwel iedereen! Van scholieren op het vmbo tot (bijna) afgestudeerden aan de universiteit, in alle financieel- economische vakken. Hierdoor heb ik een begeleidingsstructuur ontwikkeld die effectief, efficiënt, en leuk is.

Tijdens examentrainingen werk ik met oude examens met een focus op de laatste ontwikkelingen in het vakgebied. Zo zorg ik ervoor dat leerlingen de examenstof goed in de vingers krijgen en met zelfvertrouwen de examens ingaan. Tijdens de trainingen leer ik de scholieren hoe een examen qua structuur in elkaar steekt zodat het zich vertrouwd voelt met het uiteindelijke examen.

Bijlessen of huiswerkbegeleiding worden in overleg vormgegeven. Sommige scholieren of studenten hebben baat bij samen opdrachten maken, waar andere meer behoefte hebben aan uitleg over de theorie.

Maak van wiskunde je tweede taal.

Op de middelbare school en de universiteit had ik last van faalangst.

Maar later heb ik mezelf aangeleerd om scores in het 99e percentiel te halen voor de GMAT en de SAT.

Inmiddels zijn er alleen al in Amsterdam sinds 2015 meer dan 100 tevreden tovenaars opgeleid.

Geen oplichterij. Heel veel geduld. Ik kom uit de geesteswetenschappen. Mijn wiskunde was niet zo geweldig op de middelbare school. Nu ben ik een wiskundewonder, met testresultaten als bewijs.
