Trusted teacher: Holding a master's degree in civil engineering physics with high distinction, I offer mathematics, physics and chemistry lessons for secondary school students. Beyond the transmission of knowledge, I attach particular importance to the development of critical thinking in students. My goal is to lead students to ask the right questions: What does a calculation mean? What is its purpose? Why do we use this method? What is the objective behind an exercise? This approach allows us to move beyond purely mechanical learning towards a deeper and more lasting understanding. I also encourage students to develop their critical thinking skills regarding the methods used: Is the answer consistent? Is the chosen method relevant? Why perform this calculation rather than another? The goal is to teach them to understand what they are doing. Thanks to my academic background, I have encountered numerous situations where mathematics and science are used to solve real-world problems. This allows me to explain to students the purpose of science courses, showing them the actual use of the concepts studied and how they apply in concrete contexts. My teaching method also relies on learning through practice: exercises are central to the learning process. They allow students to solidify concepts, develop good reflexes, and learn to structure their thinking when faced with a problem. I guide the student through this process by helping them analyze, understand, and solve exercises progressively and independently. I therefore seek to transmit a genuine working method: analyze a problem, structure it, translate it into mathematical language, solve it logically and efficiently, and above all develop autonomous and critical thinking in the face of the problems encountered.

Hi, I'm Luis — physics PhD candidate and private tutor based in Uccle. I help students build genuine understanding in physics and mathematics, not just memorize exam tricks. Twelve years of teaching experience, from kids' science workshops to university-level electromagnetism. Subjects -Physics: IB SL/HL, A-Level, IGCSE, Belgian/French secondary, university-level (mechanics, electromagnetism, thermodynamics, waves, modern physics) -Mathematics: IB SL/HL (Analysis & Approaches), A-Level, IGCSE, calculus, linear algebra, problem-solving for STEM entrance prep -University support for first- and second-year STEM students (ULB, VUB, UCLouvain, KU Leuven) Languages: English (C2), Spanish (native), basic French. Background -PhD candidate in solid state physics (Oklahoma State University, currently on academic leave in Brussels) -5 years as university teaching assistant in electromagnetism -Private tutor since 2014 — secondary through university level -Science communicator (informal STEM education programmes) -2025 monitor at a EEUU physics summer camp for children aged 9–12 -BSc in Physics, Universidad Simón Bolívar How I teach -First session is diagnostic: we map where the actual gaps are, not where the student thinks they are -Build from first principles, then layer in exam technique and past-paper drills -Honest, specific feedback — for the student and, when useful, for parents -Comfortable with anxious students and with strong students who want to be pushed Format -Online via video, or at the student's home within Brussels Region for regular bookings. -Send me a message with: level (IB / A-Level / university / Belgian secondary), the topic or exam coming up, and your timeline. Trusted teacher: My lessons are aimed at students in primary school, secondary school, and university (depending on the program and course). I was fortunate to have a very broad background in the exact sciences thanks to my civil engineering studies. My lessons can therefore cover chemistry (kinetics, equilibria, mass balances, etc.), mathematics (analysis, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, statistics, probability, differential equations, etc.), and physics (electricity, mechanics, thermodynamics, etc.). Before starting private lessons, I usually ask for a description of the student's current course so that I can best prepare the sessions. My studies also instilled in me a problem-based learning approach. My teaching method is therefore primarily practice-oriented, as the most important thing in the exact sciences is being able to solve any type of problem. And to do that, you have to do as many as possible. During my studies, I realized that the best way to understand a subject is by doing exercises on it. However, you still need to have some foundational knowledge. That's why I usually start with a brief review of the subject and provide a formula sheet with the important formulas. Then, I work through one or more typical exercises with the student, explaining the steps involved. Finally, the student will do exercises on their own, using the formula sheet (using formulas is the best way to remember them). I'm there to assess their understanding, answer their questions, and help them when needed.

We are truly grateful for the care and dedication that Yas brings to her teaching. She is not only highly knowledgeable in her subject, but also incredibly warm and pedagogical in her approach. Our daughter, who is naturally shy and introverted, has felt safe, seen, and encouraged during the lessons. We would not hesitate to recommend her to other parents and students.
